Guest at Czar Ice Bar opening hospitalized from cocktail

The new Czar Ice Bar, which opened this week in Buckhead, aims to bring something novel and fresh to Atlanta’s bar scene. This vodka bar, offering 300 kinds of vodka from 23 countries, features a 27 foot bar constructed from ice.

Originally, Czar intended to serve vodka chilled with liquid nitrogen. This plan changed, however, after an incident last weekend with the liquid-nitrogen chilled beverages — an incident which sent one guest to the hospital. The restaurant group’s Director of Marketing, Simmy Ahluwalia, confirmed the incident but could provide no details except that the gentleman has recovered and that Czar has decided to scrap liquid nitrogen in favor of serving vodka in blocks of ice. He says Czar “could not take the risk.”

Guests can choose the vodka to fill those ice blocks from Kindle devices containing descriptions of the 300 choices. Ahluwalia says the list of options was compiled after a year of extensive research.

To accompany vodka flights, Czar serves sushi prepared by Saito, who, according to Ahluwalia, is the only Master Sushi Chef in Georgia.

The ice bar seats 80 guests inside and 30 more on its patio.

Since when did trying to do something special and different become a bad thing? Gauche? Maybe you need a vocab lesson before you choose such words that you clearly don’t know the meaning of. I commend them for trying to bring something fun to the Atlanta nightlife scene, this spot was clearly created only someone with a sense of adventure.

‘choose such words that you clearly don’t know the meaning of.’

Sorry Heather…Ends with a preposition…I hope there is room for two in the vocab lesson of which you speak.

Touche on the preposition, but at least I’m not bombastic and so eager to throw a place I’ve never been under the bus. I had the opportunity to experience Czar last weekend, and honestly it’s really well done and anything but tacky. If this place were in Vegas or NYC I think some people here would be singing a different tune. Again, I commend the owners for putting in so much effort to create an environment that evokes a sense novelty and excitement for the people of this city who are looking for something other than the norm (which this city has in over-abundance).

Oh Heather…Quit being so nice. I surrender to your kindness and logic. Having lived in Buckhead all my life I have seen so many places rise on their panache only to sink rapidly when that particular trendy bubble burst I have become somewhat (completely?) cynical of innovation. While my taste does lead more to the norm I look forward to a cocktail at Czar. Best of luck to Ahuluwia and crew. Just out of curiosity, Is there a ‘Heimlich like’ manuever for brainfreeze?

Sorry Heather, but it is painfully obvious this place is simply another in the lineup of vapid hotspots where equally vapid people can congregate in order to be seen spending outrageous amounts of money on mediocre drinks/food. I have no doubt that for the next 6 months people will jockey for the valet to park their Mercedes or Bentley out front and girls with Snooki-inspired hair and wardrobes will congregate at the bar in the hopes of being seen or even photographed having one of those $400 martinis (yes, that’s correct, they have a $400 martini). But then, after about 6 months, there will be another new “must be seen in” place to open and the vapid crowd will move on. This place’s doors will close for good and some sap will lament, “Atlanta is a tired town”. You also contradict yourself, saying this place isn’t tacky then in the next sentence say it could be located in Las Vegas. That’s funny.

Ignore them Heather.

Some people just live to take a dump on anything and everything that doesn’t meet with their own self-righteous seal of approval. They love to call others poseurs but refuse to look in their own mirror.

Edward, sounds like your scene is the local neighborhood’s Applebee’s bar, which I am proud to say does not exist in my Buckhead neighborhood. I look forward to driving my Range Rover and paying top dollar for a martini. There is something for everyone……

Tanzy, I much prefer real food here in MY Buckhead neighborhood. I’m glad you will be happy in a place like Czar. That means you and those like you won’t be cluttering up other establishments.
