Sublime Doughnuts wins best bakery in America

Sublime DonutsBake magazine conducted a nationwide search of America’s Best Bakery and, once the votes were tallied, Atlanta’s own Sublime Doughnuts takes the…er..cake.

Voting started at the beginning of March, and six finalists rose to the top of the crowd, including Kamal Grant’s midtown doughnut shop. The winner was then chosen by Bake’s editorial staff, and Sublime will be featured in the May issue of the industry magazine.

If you have lived in Atlanta for long, or if you spent any amount of time perusing the Atlanta food blogs during the fall of 2009, the deliciousness that is Sublime Doughnuts is probably old news for you. But, if you are new to town, or have been sheltered from the wonderful, pastry-like donuts that Grant churns out of his shop on 10th Street, make sure to check it out. And if you want some shamelessly self-promoting food porn, feel free to drool over the fuzzy cell phone pics from my own blog post/catalogue of his unconventional and delicious treats.

I never understood why the cupcake thing took off like it did, especially after I’d tasted a well-made doughnut. That is totally a trend I could get behind.

Check out Kamal’s video submission that helped earn him the honor below. Congrats Kamal!

I confess to never having heard of this place before. That said, congratulations to Mr. Grant and co. That is quite a feat. I’m a sucker for baked goods, so I’m sure I’ll be making your acquaintance at some point.

I have read about Sublime and Mr. Grant’s story behind its opening, and I have to date heroically resisted temptation and not gone. This latest news has me feeling my resolve, er, “crumbling”. Congratulations and look for me soon!

Why are there always people like TRAVELER who has to piss on the parade? If you haven’t been, just don’t comment and give your shameless plug about some place have never heard of.

Denise, I second your comment. And to those who kindly admitted never going, once you go you WILL wonder why you never went before and you WILL find yourself telling others about them. I wish I could name a favorite donut from Sublime, but it’s nearly impossible.

I love Sublime donuts! The downside to the customer service Kamal Grant has a really arrogant and nonchalant attitude; not very customer friendly.

I’ve always had great service at Sublime, and the few times I’ve met Kamal he is very warm and friendly. I’m glad they won, they deserve it. Truly one of the most consistently supreme bakeries around.

Congratulations! I’m a native Atlantan, but I’ve never heard of the place. The word ’sublime’ is not a word that I like (along with ‘hummus’, ’smoothie’ and others– I digress…), but I’m interested in stopping by sometime for a delicious *plain* doughnut.

Oh those croissants are beyond sublime. I worked at housing for GT and we would get them at least once a month and then we’d all split the doughnuts in halves or quarters so that everyone could get a piece of everything since we could never make up our minds! Thanks for the good memories :)

I like this guy and find his doughnuts very tasty. Congratulations on your win as well. But to say this is the best bakery in America is beyond me. It’s not a bakery, It’s a doughnut shop.
