Latitude — the Phipps Plaza restaurant helmed by chef Micah Willix — will close after service tonight. When I reviewed the restaurant in February, Willix told me that he had difficulties working from a tiny kitchen. No word yet on where the talented chef will go from here.
And here’s the press release:
“While Latitude has been grateful for the support of diners, neighbors and friends, the current economic environment and lower than anticipated sales have led ownership to make this unfortunate decision. Chef Micah Willix enjoyed the opportunity to expand his culinary boundaries with Latitude’s globally inspired cuisine and is currently looking for a new and exciting opportunity.”

From one of the owners of the restaurant from your review in February 2012… boy, did he have it wrong! Icon of the world – brag much?

Latitude does indeed have a bar and great mixologist with some cool libations. Micah is a star and constantly working to make the food/experience extraordinary. While biased as one of the owners, I am pretty confident that Latitude is/will become an icon in the world of chef driven concepts in Buckhead — there are not many. I respect any review but can attest to the fact that our guest love it at Latitude….. really.

4 months? Wow! What a shame! I liked Latitude. Restaurant owners shouldn’t even THINK about going opening a restaurant unless they have the capital to keep the restaurant open for a year. It takes a while to gain a following, and build word of mouth. What a waste of time and money if you don’t have the funds or patience.

I am very sorry to hear this. This restaurant was so refreshing and the flavors of the dishes were smart and perfect. I will always remember the hazelnuts/beets salad and the vibrant beef tartar. All the plates that I have eaten were all tremendous. The atmosphere was luxurious but very comfortable. I referred a friend there for lunch today and she was very impressed as well. I was referred by a patient of mine and I am so thankful for his recommendation.

Maybe if the GA DOT actually decided to stop turning Buckhead and Peachtree Road into a construction zone people would actually decide to drive up there to explore what Buckhead has to offer. The road is a freaking embarrassment right now. I’m sure tourists drive it thinking they’re in a 3rd World country. No, it’s Atlanta.

Another “oh, the economy is too bad, so we had to close” – but I bet the owners turn around and open another one up. If the economy is that bad then you wouldn’t see long waits for expensive restaurants. So tired of that excuse…

ajc one star review. read the article and it actually merited a “fair” rating. i am shocked, shocked i tell you, that it took a few months for this disaster to close. thank goodness there are a handful of waffle houses nearby. scattered smothered & covered is a serious upgrade over this cra?

It is very disingenuous of the owner to claim “bad economy” for a restaurant that is only open 4 months. I’d say “bad management” is more accurate. It is a shame because, contrary to the uninformed and grotesque areyoukidding, it was a very nice place and the food was impeccably prepared. Why do people like areyoukidding even respond to a post, just to see their anonymous comment online? SMH.

If you can’t survive in a busy, high end mall, where you have more foot traffic than any other restaurant could ever dream of having, then you should have never opened in the first place.

Did the owner just realize that the economy was bad and it was not the time to open a “high end” resturant? WOW!!!!
Sophie…..guess Latitude didn’t have to worry about long lines!! lol Yea, the long lines are just causing just about everybody to open this type of resturant. Or as they say “nobody goes there anymore, its too crowded!!!
