Kevin Rathbun to open new restaurant

8419003Kevin Rathbun is rolling out a new restaurant. The acclaimed chef plans to open KR SteakBar in the ADAC West building in Peachtree Hills. Not just for shoppers at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center showrooms, this restaurant will feature a menu of “small plate steaks meets Italian fare” according to the website (linked above).

I’m not sure what a “small plates steak” is, but I’m intrigued. I love the thought of ordering a few bites of  beautiful beef without committing to a monster porterhouse.

Rathbun’s partners in the new space will be the same folks who team with him at his flagship restaurant and Kevin Rathbun Steak — manager Cliff Bramble, pastry chef Kirk Parks and Rathbun’s wife, Melissa Rathbun.

Johnson Studio will design the restaurant, which is slated for a late summer 2012 opening.

Could “small-plates steaks” be an attempt to woo female steak lovers, a la STK? Is this a trend?

I hope the restaurant looks better than that logo.

Go to any waffle house for a 12 oz T bone, hash browns, salad and a toasted bun for about 10 bucks,,,,,,,,and skip a mouthful of steak here for say $24……..And be full and close to as good I bet………You’re welcome.

Methinks he should perfect his current restaurant before he opens another one. Pass.

Yuk….this man and his narcissitic wife have Atlantans thinking he is a “chef”…..frankly, I have NEVER had a great meal at one of his restaurants…..ignores reservations (unless you are his A list), too much salt, lousy service and mediocre food.

PS: I have enjoyed amazing meals in five star restaurants in London, Paris, NYC, Chicago, LA, Dallas, Miami, Washington DC, to name a few cities. This man would not make the cut!!!! He would be laughed off of the review page.

I don’t understand the negativity at all as I’ve never had anything less than stellar service and an outstanding meal at Kevin Rathbun Steak. It may not be Bone’s-level service, but still quite professional. Looking forward to the new venture. Good luck to Kevin and his partners!!

Maybe he’ll serve steak tips?

Let’s see… negativity from someone who thinks a WH steak is comparable to one from a Rathbun’s level restaurant and someone who obviously received the same high-level of service everyone else gets instead of being swooned over simply because she has a passport. Didn’t the valet relay to the host that you’re in a leased Benz? Wasn’t the look of abject horror of being mistaken for middle-class, that would have been on your face if not for the botox, enough of a clue to them that you demand special treatment? I love these forums.

I’ve been to a Rathbuns restaurant twice, both times receiving excellent service and exceptional food. And Kevin’s Taste of Atlanta VIP seminar was so very enjoyable.

Someone give this dude a reality check or something. Clearly this restaurant will fail, c’mon. If it makes it past a year I will be shocked, would bet the farm/guarantee you it won’t make it 2 years. And before you just disagree and think I’m being a hater, allow me to remind you of the premise here: A ’steak bar’ with a stupid logo featuring the initials of its chef.

I don’t understand all of the vitriol. I have had some great meals at his current spots, particularly Kevin Rathbun Steak. It is certainly among my favorites in the city. I also find his wife charming and entertaining. This new venture sounds like an interesting concept and I wish them the best with it. I’m sure I’ll get by to check it out.

Forget the steaks. The real star here is Kirk Parks, the Pastry Chef. I’ll follow him anywhere! (…and no, I’m not the restuarant’s publicist!)

I’ve been to Rathbun’s, and while it was good, it was nothing that knocked my socks off. Kevin Rathbun Steak, though, is just flat-out superb. My wife and I like prime steakhouses, so we try them as we travel, and each of us thought it was probably the best steak we ever had.

I was surprised it took this long for him to branch out even further. Look forward to visiting once it is open.

I can’t wait to go! What’s up with all of the hatin’? I like the way he comes out and works the crowd, and I think his food is superb. There is no need to assault the man and his family. I bet you wouldn’t say it to his face!
