America’s Top Dog goes under

America’s Top Dog is no longer on top. This hot dog spot serving both regional-themed and build-it-yourself hot dogs served its last dog in December. Owner Jeff Brosman confirmed today that the restaurant closed due to the economy. He said, “We did really well in the beginning but then… business was not good.”

America’s Top Dog set up shop on Chamblee Tucker Road in Fall 2010, earning praise from Dining Team member Jon Watson. Brossman later opened a second location on Satellite Blvd in Duluth and sold the original location, which closed last November.

America’s Top Dog was included on Jon Watson’s list of the top 5 hot dogs in the city. In the same poll, readers chose it as their 6th best hot dog on Best of the Big A.

I ate there before and after he sold it. It was good the first time and terrible the second.

maybe this will be a wake up call for future owners. take care of your one and only place first before you get greedy and try to expand too soon. how many times have we heard of people talk about a concept and say “we plan on doing 16 more locations.” just shut up and execute the first one properly.

Margie and I want to thank all our loyal customers and we are very sorry we had to close.
We actually sold the restaurant in Chamblee last summer just after we opened in Duluth.
Unfortunately, the couple we sold it to decided to steal all the equipment inside out from under us
even though they had only put down a small down payment. This and a slowing down in business set in motion a cash flow problem which forced us to close Duluth just before Christmas. Again thank you to all our loyal customers…we will truly miss you! It’s become very difficult to compete with the McD’s of the world in this economy.

Just damn. I had been to Chamblee. Tough location but great food, and amazing service. Good luck in the future endeavors.

I had bought a groupon for the chamblee location, it was set to expire at the end of July. For the last 2 or 3 weeks of July, the place was closed and there was a sheet of paper saying that they were ‘on vacation’.

Groupon gave us our money back. We were kind of ticked, though. We had been there a few times and they had good dogs.

Jeff…..thanks for the explanation. Hope you had those crooks arrested! Hope your next venture will be a great one!

To Baltisraul….unfortunately since I took a small down payment and had a sales contract the DeKalb
police will not arrest them! They say it’s a civil matter and I must sue them in court….who said crime doesn’t pay. To add salt to the wound, several lawyers I talked to said there wasn’t enough money involved for them to take the case. To me 35K is alot of money…so much for our legal system.
You know some people urged me not to open in Atlanta saying folks here did not or could not appreciate a good frank. I ignored them thinking that if you serve a good product, they will come. Hence it looks like our next effort will most likely be in another area I’m not knocking Atlanta or the people here but I guess when in Rome you have to feed them the way they are use to eating in Rome…Varsity

To Jim Bob…sorry about the Groupon problem…the new owners were supposed to honor them as specified in the contract after they took over. but they refused to. We therefore told anyone that called us we would honor them at our Duluth location or they could call Groupon a nd get a refund.
I am sorry for any inconvenience and I thank you for your business before we sold.

jeff……..Lived in Atl along time. Can’t imagine folks not going for a good frank. But you have first hand experience, hard to question your logic. Your advisor know what they are talking about. Good luck!
