Hey John,

Is there a difference between the Nutella most available in the USA- either made here or Canada- and the European formula? If so, is the other formula available in Atlanta area?

Cherry Coke over crushed ice. Especially after lunch. Fruity sweetness, wet and caffeine. What else do you need?

The link said “snacks”, but the story headline is for desserts. So, I’ll give both:

Snack: Red grapes (the small sized ones)

10-second dessert: Lifesaver (banana-flavored)

I’ve been hearing good stuff about the Buford Hwy. farmers market. I’ll have to check it out!

Snack – Trader Joe’s Blister Peanuts. Great crunch, light salt, just a touch of oil.

Dessert – A scoop of Ben and Jerry’s Half-Baked. Still my fav.

@Indigo, John: There is seemingly legitimate info on the web suggesting that the Nutella made in New Jersey is not the same as the European version.

From an Amazon review: “Nutella is stocked by the pallet in Europe, but much less popular in the USA for the excellent reason that the NJ plant produces an inferior product. This stuff is edible, but it’s too sweet and doesn’t have a strong hazelnut flavor. Ferrero finished Americanizing it by putting it in a much smaller plastic container and adding trans fat. Look for the genuine imported product or try making your own chocolate peanut butter. (I’ve tried making a chocolate hazelnut butter, but it’s hard to duplicate the Nutella flavor)

Update: Nutella now contains “modified palm oil” instead of the partially hydrogenated variety. It’s nice of Ferrero to shell out the extra .03 per bottle not to use a substance known to be somewhat lethal, but I expect the flavor hasn’t improved, or we’d all be hearing a lot more about it.”

This has led to discussions on Chowhound etc about where to get the “real” stuff. I’ve never tried it and have not found a source in ATL. Has anyone?

wow mark, wow. apparently ive only had the inferior version–’cause i hate nutella. peanut butter, apple butter, sure–no nutella. not even that nutella and burnt marshmallow milk shake from flip–my friends love it though.

I can testify that European Nutella is superior. Does that make me above using the Nutella coupon at ostco this week? Nope!

I love Nutella on anything. Making the Nutella “ravioli” with wonton wrappers is heavenly. I love Nutella smeared on Biscoff cinnamon cookies.

I can attest to the Nutella here not being as good as that available in the UK and Italy (the two other places I’ve had it). The American version is far too sweet (isn’t that usually the case with anything “Americanized”?). In America everything must have MORE SUGAR, or better yet CORN SYRUP AND SUGAR! :-(

Are there Slurpees available at all in the Atlanta area? I thought Slurpees were only available at 7-11 stores and I’ve never seen any of those here.

I wonder if you can find the European version at military bases and commisaries. They tend to have imported items for people who get hooked on this kind of stuff overseas.

====> Nutella – the real, imported stuff can be found at the Buford Hwy Farmer’s Market. Last time I was there in the European section they had the imported Polish container it side by side with the American stuff. Get the imported stuff – it is superior and tastes very different – far more hazelnuts and far less sugar. Spread on toast in the morning and you are in business. Or crepe it up and add sliced strawberries. YUM.
