In honor of  National Rainier Cherry Day (July 11), Westside’s Bacchanalia is featuring dessert dishes incorporating Rainier cherries that hail from the Pacific Northwest. For the next two weeks or so, the menu will consist of sweet-tooth friendly options such as Rainier cherry baked Alaska, toasted meringue, Rainier cherry sorbet and cherry covered chocolate lime cake.

This is a nationwide event with one participating restaurant from all 50 states. Below is the press release:

“In celebration of National Rainier Cherry Day on July 11, Northwest Cherries has commissioned one iconic restaurant in each US state to create a unique menu featuring Rainier cherries. This famed cherry is regarded for its crisp bite and pale yellow flesh bursting with exceptional sweetness.

Coast to coast, Northwest Cherries is making sure everyone has the opportunity to indulge this once-a-year treat. From Rainier cherry-infused cocktails and brews to Rainier cherry compotes on perfectly prepared proteins, each chef has designed a special dish that not only showcases the cherries’ sweet, crisp flavor but also incorporates them into the cuisine for which the state is known.”

My issue with Bacchanalia and Star Provisions and Quinones
is that I go in there often and no one will acknowledge me as I browse the cute “home section”, or even if I go into the meat case room. I routinely get crappy looks from the Staff, if ANY acknowledgement at all! It is really disheartening to browse $350 tablecloths and $15 bird table favors and $25 a pound meats and cheeses, and not even have anyone willing to so much as smile in my direction. I quit going to their market and their restaurants. Who needs that. And don’t say “If Anne was there, it would be different” because the day I went and she was there, she gave me the most evil look of all. WTF, I can buy a $30 salt cellar for $5 or $10 anywhere, AND you are not the only outfit selljng good cheese either. Muss and Turner, Whole Foods, etc. BE NICER!

Hear, hear, Sandy. And it happens at Floataway, too. Over the years I have eaten at Floataway dozens of times. I was a friend of James Quinones. The last time I was in Floataway, and I do mean the last time, you would have thought we were dining at the Varsity. They could not wait to get us out of them. When I complained, they huffed that that just could not be true. I was obviously wrong, they implied. My companion when back a few weeks later and reported the same treatment. Success spoils.

I absolutely agree with Sandy & Dough. As Sandy said, “Be nicer.”

Yep, I have to agree. As great as the food is, the service is “friendly” but always a little snarky and condescending. Like “you are so lucky to be dining with us…”

Surprising to see these negative comments. We have only been to Floataway Cafe once so can’t really speak about it, but we go to Bacchanalia twice a year for birthdays. Have never had a bad experience, in the restaurant or in the shops. It is usually pretty quiet in the shops walking around the shops after dinner as I think they are probably really closed, but typically someone comes over to ask us if there is anything we want, and answers questions about which cheese they have in stock that was served that night, etc.

It is definately a special-occasion location, but we keep coming back. :) I have been to several high end restaurants with what I would definately call a snarky holier-than-thou waitstaff, but I have never had that experience at Bacchanalia.

I’ve been several times to Bacchanalia, star provisions, etc…and all though the food was quite delicious…the service was a bit “high brow” ….why? No clue…I mean, come on employees….let’s be honest…if you were “the shiate”….you wouldn’t be working there at $8.50hr….just sayin’

left/right? who cares?

Some one has a self-esteem issue… I go to Star often and I’m on first name basis with most of their employees. They are all very nice regular folks – and zero to no snootiness about them.

Back on subject. I make a Cherry Bourbon every year with just fresh Cherries, Bourbon and Sugar. It ferments for 3-6 months. Drink it straight, use it as a mixer, pour it over ice cream. I look forward to fresh cherries every year.

I agree with Atlantan- the staff of Star Provisions- is most amicable. And I am a frequent patron. Perhaps those who feel slighted there should look into their own insecurities.

I have to somewhat agree with Sandy. Although Anne helped me in the cheese room one night. I could tell she was getting something for the restaurant, but she helped me and was very pleasant. Some of the staff could use some better manners, but this is the new Atlanta. Isn’t it great?

I’ve never experienced snarky (love the word!) service at any Star Pro resturant…not even once! If everywhere you go it smells like poop, you might check the bottom of your own shoes
