Dog Days in Norcross

Chicago Dog

Chicago Dog

Though I drove around most of the metro area for my Best of the Big A hot dog hunt, due to time constraints, there were inevitably going to be a few spots that were missed. Dog Days Hot Dogs in Norcross was one of them.

Though I won’t go so far as to say that they would have unseated one of my Top 5 picks (too early to make that call), If you live in the area, this can be a heck of a satisfying scratch to any hot dog itch. The dogs come in two sizes: Small and Regular. The “small” is basically your standard size dog, while the regular is a thick quarter-pounder.

Despite the fact that they use 100% beef Vienna dogs, some purists may take umbrage with the lack of “snap” in the dogs, and while I may have docked them a few points for that, it isn’t enough of an issue to prevent me from coming back. So, what will keep me coming back?

That would be the Giardiniera Dog ($4.89 reg), topped with a mix of spicy pickled veggies including celery, carrots,

 Serrano peppers, and bell peppers.

Piled on top of one of the thicker “regular” dogs, this makes for a very satisfying meal, especially if you don’t mind sweating a little during lunch. (Translation: It is pretty spicy)

The Georgia Dog

Another standout for me is the Georgia dog ($4.89/reg), buried in grilled onions, BBQ sauce, and slaw. As you can see, finding the hot dog underneath all of that slaw can be a challenge. My advice: Napkins. Lots of them. This is a messy beast to tackle, but the sweet BBQ sauce and caramelized onions make for a satisfying mess of a meal.

11 a.m.-8p.m. Mondays-Saturdays, closed Sundays. 6025 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross. 770-449-7433, www.dogdayshotdogs.com. $

Took them months and months to open and when it did it was a total let down. Dog was room temp cold, had no snap to the casing, the bun was stale and not steamed, the 1 man staff acted like he’s doing you a favor, no hello, no thank you, just a “do you want your change back?”. One of the worst Chi-town dog let alone hot dog place in GA (it’s not in Atlanta). It’s a wonder how they even stay in business, it’s more of a wonder why you devoted an entire article to them which is a waste of interweb space.

Any headline that reads “Food and More: DOG Days,” and specifies Norcross as the location, makes me very nervous.

This place has the best hot dogs I ever tasted – they also have the best hamburgers that I have ever had, chicken tenders, and much more including great deserts – The Owners are always friendly and say goodby and come back. Some of my friends go there almost every day. Anyone that downs this place doesn’t know good food.

Marietta has a good spot right behind the big chicken. Forgot the name, but I go there when I’m craving a dog. Their Chicago Dogs are the bomb, son!!

Great dogs here. The homemade potato chips are soooooo gooood! I do not understand the complaints with the Chicago dog, it had the electric green relish and all the fixings.

Mike’s Chicago Dogs in Sandy Springs is far and away the best, and the prices are reasonable. $4.89 for a dog? Highway robbery.

Time and time again I find myself reading these comments and it amazes me the caliber of idiots that swarm this site. Dog Days is a great place for a Chi-dog and that’s that. It’s not number one but I think it’s certainly a top ten. So to all you dummies that think all dogs have to have a snap, don’t bother coming here and save yourself the disappointment. Everyone else that wants a ton, just an absolute ton of variety for Dog options (they have something like 10-15 different specialty dogs) and a friendly environment, this is your place. Counterstaff/owners are very friendly and always seem to be appreciative of the business.

Johnny – I’m pretty sure you’re the waste of “interweb space”

Sorry ATL, but after eating at HOT DOUG’S in Chicago, I’m so spoiled. Nothing is better than the original Chicago dog with duck fat french fries!! I don’t even mind the two hour wait to get in.

If anyone knows of a place that even comes close here in Atlanta please let me know….

WOW is it that serious?

There’s a new hot dog place in Hapeville, dunno the name of it. Hot Dawg or something like that. It’s on the corner of hwy 41 and Central Ave, where the produce stand used to be (and coffee shop before that). Across from J Buffaloes.

Anyone tried the dogs in this place? I went vegetarian so the place is not exactly on my list.

The best hot dog around is found at The Original J.R. Crickets on Spring St in Atlanta. They have Sahlen’s hot dogs imported from Buffalo NY! Char-grilled…great dog.
