Though I drove around most of the metro area for my Best of the Big A hot dog hunt, due to time constraints, there were inevitably going to be a few spots that were missed. Dog Days Hot Dogs in Norcross was one of them.
Though I won’t go so far as to say that they would have unseated one of my Top 5 picks (too early to make that call), If you live in the area, this can be a heck of a satisfying scratch to any hot dog itch. The dogs come in two sizes: Small and Regular. The “small” is basically your standard size dog, while the regular is a thick quarter-pounder.
Despite the fact that they use 100% beef Vienna dogs, some purists may take umbrage with the lack of “snap” in the dogs, and while I may have docked them a few points for that, it isn’t enough of an issue to prevent me from coming back. So, what will keep me coming back?
That would be the Giardiniera Dog ($4.89 reg), topped with a mix of spicy pickled veggies including celery, carrots,
Serrano peppers, and bell peppers.
Piled on top of one of the thicker “regular” dogs, this makes for a very satisfying meal, especially if you don’t mind sweating a little during lunch. (Translation: It is pretty spicy)
Another standout for me is the Georgia dog ($4.89/reg), buried in grilled onions, BBQ sauce, and slaw. As you can see, finding the hot dog underneath all of that slaw can be a challenge. My advice: Napkins. Lots of them. This is a messy beast to tackle, but the sweet BBQ sauce and caramelized onions make for a satisfying mess of a meal.
