And the winner of “Top Chef All-Stars” is….

richard-blais-2005-197x300Richard Blais, the Atlanta chef who is currently the top toque at three branches of Flip Burger Boutique (including one in Birmingham, Ala.), was crowned the victor on “Top Chef All-Stars.” Blais, who had lost in the finals of the fourth season of the Bravo TV reality program, joined 17 other contestants from previous seasons for a second try at the title. For the finale, Blais faced off against Washington, D.C., chef Michael Isabella.

In addition to the title, Blais takes home a $200,000 prize, the largest in the show’s history.

The judges feasted on a multi-course menu that included oysters, hamachi, braised beef and something that wouldn’t surprise any Atlantan familiar with Blais’ cooking: foie gras ice cream.

Take a look at  Jon Watson’s recap of the finale as well as a look at Flip Burger Boutique’s newest location in Buckhead from me.

Congratulations, Chef Blais! You’ve made us proud.

I don’t watch a lot of TV (except sports) and I’m not a very good cook, but this is a fun show; been watching for a number of years and love the way these guys like Kevin Gellespie and Richard show Atlanta in such a great light. Now we have to pull hard for Hugh Acheson in the Masters series that starts next week. Five and Ten is consistently one of my favorites.

As an Atlanta transplant and native Long Islander, I relished in this victory as if I was celebrating the Braves back in 1995. I think this whole town had your back. Thanks for putting forth all the effort. You deserve it!!

I am so happy! I have been rooting for you and praying for you and your fine family as if you were my grandson. You have always been the best…you just needed to believe it yourself. Atlanta is so proud of you. Keep us posted of your upcoming restaurant plans. BTW, spend a little bit of the $200,000 and get a new haircut…..just kidding! God bless you.

Ah…he lost Season 4. This was nothing more than a show of all the losers. Obviously, one of them had to ‘win’. But this was the second go-around. What next, All Stars 2 and All Stars 3!!?? I get tired of seeing the same ones over and over. And, they all already have restaurants!!

Congratulations Richard on your win, and to the new addition to your family!

I just watched to video of the extended Judges Table on the Top Chef site, and was extremely happy to see that the ONLY person NOT in Richard’s court was Gail. Everyone else, INCLUDING all of the guest super chefs, who joined the judges, thought Richard was Top Chef, and Gail had no choice but to follow their collective lead.

I guess this goes to show that nice guys can finish first, and good things come to those who wait. Richard, all the best in the future. My wife and I look forward to dining at Flip until your new dining experience is open, and then we’ll have two Blais options to choose from!

It was so exciting to watch! I could not wait to see the episode! He was the most talented chef on this show and the finale proved it. In the kitchen, he finally appeared more confident and in control and his dishes reflected it. I just wish I still lived in Atlanta to visit one of his restaurants and soak up the excitement. Congratulations, Top Chef!!!
