Publicist Melissa Libby confirmed today that Drew Belline (left), the longtime chef at Floataway Cafe, will be the chef at the as-yet-unnamed new Decatur restaurant from JCT Kitchen & Bar’s Ford Fry. The restaurant, which will take over the Eurasia Bistro space on E. Ponce de Leon Ave., will be casual and contemporary, with Italian overtones to the cooking. Fry cites San Francisco’s A16 as inspiration.
“Drew is an amazing chef and will be a great partner in our new Italian-inspired restaurant,” said Fry. “We share a passion for local sourced, simple yet not simplistic, wood-fired cooking. And he lives in Decatur!”
No word yet on a time line.

Doesn’t anybody proof-read this stuff? The photo is on the left side of the text – and what does this mean: “will take be the chef” ??

Good news. Last couple of visits to Floataway, the food was really disappointing. Hope they get a good replacement. Used to love this place.

Our food was wonderful last week at Floataway but the restaurant was not very full.

who cares if the restaurant was not very full? That is one of the weirdest comments I hear about restaurant experiences. I have had amazing meals at not very full restaurants.
Oh well, I guess people need to be reassured that the restaurants is worthwhile…

I agree that Floataway had taken a slide. The last time I was there, we were crammed between two other tables, and the service was nonchalant. But even worse, the cold food I returned came back reheated and subsequently overcooked. I never went back. Might try it again with a new chef. This news certainly doesn’t have me scrambling to try out the new place in Decatur.
Hijo de little pig: VickiF may have simply been implying that Floataway is inconsistent, which always hurts business.

I’m 0 for 2 on Floataway experience, and I don’t really go to JCT anymore either. I always feel like they are rushing me out of there, and have had some inconsistent food there as well. The JCT bar would be great if they didn’t always have a teary-eyed acoustic guitarist playing Wonderwall on repeat.
