Top Chef All-Stars to start Dec. 1

People are talking about former Top Chef competitor Richard Blais with the announcement of his newest concept: hot dogs. Next week, even more people will be talking about him.

On December 1st, Bravo TV releases the premiere episode of Top Chef All-Stars. Our own local Top Chef hero Richard Blais joins 17 other former chef’testants in New York city to compete for the biggest prize in Top Chef history: $200,000.

All narrowly missing out on the title, these culinary hopefuls will have stiff competition and will face an even tougher judging panel. This season, chef, author and television personality Anthony Bourdain joins Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, and Padma Lakshmi at the judging table.

Having won more challenges than any of the other All-Stars, Richard Blais is singled out as a serious contender from the start. In considering his strategy for his second run at the title, Blais says, “My new train of thought coming back into the game this time is to push up until the end.” In Season 4, Blais narrowly missed snagging the elusive title when he admittedly “choked” on the final challenge.

Blais is known for using gadgets and techniques of molecular gastronomy in the kitchen. True to form, the liquid nitrogen tank makes its first appearance on the premiere episode. Tricks and gadgets aside, Blais is one talented chef. But he will have to be in top form to contend with the likes of Spike Mendelsohn, Jennifer Carroll, Marcel Vigneron, and Casey Thompson.

Atlanta Top Chef fans unite. An amazing season of the 18 most talented Top Chefs is right around the corner and we have a contender. A major contender.

Top Chef All-Stars premieres on Bravo TV Wednesday, Dec. 1, 10-11:15 p.m. (EST).

Do you think he still works on his own fauxhawk or does he have a fauxhawk assistant?

Gone are the days when people were celebrated for being truly talented and strived to be the best at their craft and do a good job. It’s been replaced by reality TV and Paris Hilton ‘Fame’ monsters. I could care less about his hair…what about the food? I’ve been to Flip…nothing earth shatteringly unique.

I would have loved to see Kevin make another appearance. Since he’s not competing, I’ll root for Richard, Tiffany, and sexy, sexy, Fabio.

Gee Dock, you’re really letting your stellar up-bringin’ show. Perhaps if you actually dined somewhere that you didn’t have to scream your order into the clowns face you might actually have a relevant comment. But of course the same goes for OCC who seems to think that the world of today is as effortless as the world of fifty years ago when talent seems to have been more of a commodity. Face it, the world has changed and to be “successful” to the point where you can earn a living, and retire, being “creative”, you have to wh*re your soul out a little. But in the in end, everyone today, especially those who state contrary, forgets the lovers, the dreamers… :)

Madge, yes. John Watson is going to be covering the series and will be our Top Chef expert!

Brad – good question. I wondered that when I first heard the line-up. Kevin Gillespie was offered a spot on Top Chef All-Stars. Here’s what he posted on his Facebook page:
“For those of you interested or perplexed….I was offered a spot on Top Chef Allstars. They tried to convince me that it would be a second opportunity to show that I could win. I honestly don’t need a second opportunity to feel like a winner, and the outpouring that I get from everyone on this page reminds me of that on a daily basis.”
