There’s nothing on Pappy Red’s website about it. It says they are franchising, so exactly where is it?

PR’s BBQ on Chattahoochie. Just opened intown. 20+years in Cumming before closing down and opening up on the westside. Had the ribs on Sunday. Very good addition to the neighborhood since we are lacking in BBQ.

They repeatedly said they don’t franchise but yet their website has franchise opportunity written all over it. BBQ is typical chain BBQ, nothing to write home about. Boiled ribs, brisket and then “smoked”. Mild and hot sauces are a joke. No pics allowed via the fat Deliverance character in the corner.

Yep….Pappy Red’s BBQ. Stopped by and agree it’s not a drop-everything-and-rush-there place. Had a decent pulled pork sandwich on the house jalapeño-cheese bread, which was pretty doughy but kind of fun for a change. It reminded me a bit of the homemade bread I first learned to make as a kid. A side of collards seemed straight from the freezer bag. There are so many cigar-store-era representations of American Indians around — stern faces, feathers in their headdresses — that my daughter wanted to go and tell the owner he was engaging in racial stereotyping. I persuaded the little darling not to.

Pappy Red’s was good when my buddy Dave ran it in Cumming. After he left the wheels ran off.

Well, John, if you wouldn’t let your (very clever) daughter call the owner out in person for racial stereotyping, perhaps you’d allow her to pen a sweet little note & mail it to him. Good on her for knowing tacky/wrong-headedness when she sees it!!! Sounds like this is one BBQ joint I won’t be visiting– too many other really good BBQ places around that wouldn’t be a waste of my $$…

Should have let her – I come from SW Kansas, and the wooden Indian schtick has been pretty much cleaned up there (except for museums and the occasional redneck bar).

Good for your daughter! Understandably, there’s a fine line between nostalgia for another time and unintentional insult. If the owner is aware that he is sending mixed messages, it’s up to him to decide the matter. If he continues to exhibit items that are inappropriate to modern sensibilities, then people have the option not to return.
You at least know that your offspring is sensitive to others and that “because it’s always been that way” is not always sufficient.
