Freaky Hot Dog alert!
This, my friends, is the teri-mayo hot dog at Wonderful World Burgers and More — the Emory Village redoubt of vaguely Asian fast food.
It is a split, griddle-cooked tube steak topped with squiggles of mayonnaise, teriyaki sauce and many shreds of nori seaweed. It cost about 3 bucks.
I can only describe the taste as the culinary equivalent of déjà vu. Somewhere, in some past, life I have eaten these flavors together. It made some kind of weird, disturbing sense to my palate.
I’m not 100% sure I liked it, but I want another.
Has anyone had one of these hot dogs?

I’ve had it. I thought it was refreshingly different. I wasn’t sure I would like it at all, but it was too interesting to not order. But I liked it. I thought it was pretty good.

The price is certainly right, and although I’m good with mayo on a dog, I’m not such a huge fan of nori. However, a good foodie tries (most) everything once and I would be open to tasting it.

I enjoyed this hotdog! I’m not a big nori fan but somehow it works. I always eat mayo on my dogs; as a kid I would put mayo on two peices of bread and call it a snack

My wife won’t let me go there. I asked her about going there for lunch once. I think I may defy her to try that funky dog. I dunno about mayo on a dog, but I guess if I can eat a slaw dog, what’s the difference? I want one NOW dammit.

Haven’t had this one yet, but sounds like a direct rip-off of the Japa-dog offered in Vancouver (which is fantastic). Will definitely have to try it.
BTW, had the Sonaran hot dog at the Bone Garden yesterday and it is terrific. Thanks to the AJC for the rec!

That looks really gross.
Try the new foot-long chili cheese dog at Sonic, it’s really very good. If they grilled the bun, it would be nearly perfect.

The Teri-Mayo hot dog ($2.95) is Chan’s take on the Japanese-style dog made famous by Anthony Bourdain on the “No Reservations” TV show episode that featured Vancouver’s Japa Dog. Here it’s split and grilled, topped with teriyaki sauce, kewpie mayo and crispy roasted seaweed, and it’s served on a grilled Vienna bun. Salty, sweet and slightly smoky, it’s a fun, Asian-flavored guilty pleasure.

I can do mayo on a hot dog but it is a sin to put ketchup on one! You can’t even find ketchup at a hot dog stand in Chicago, the fatherland of all hot dog places.

The standard condiment when eating a hotdog/frankfurter/sausage in Europe is mayo/aioli. In Denmark they are served in a bun by inserting the hotdog into one end of a long bun (after squeezing mayo into the hole first). Then they will put 2 small puddles of ketchup and mustard onto a piece of waxed paper.
