Jane Fonda on her favorite Atlanta eats

pink-jersey-janeSliders!

That was the message I heard loud and clear from Jane Fonda when I sat down with her for a few minutes at Share our Strength’s Taste of the Nation — the annual taste-around/auction at the Georgia Aquarium that raises money for hunger relief. Jane loves sliders! Particularly the ones at Ted’s Montana Grill.

Of course, the fact that Fonda — the event’s honorary chair — was sitting next to Ted’s owner George McKerrow, Jr., might have had something to do with her avowal of slider love.

Buzztastic Jennifer Brett filed this report today on Fonda’s charity work, so we kept our conversation on food.

Q: So What are you going to miss from Atlanta now that you’ve moved to Los Angeles?

A: Food!

Q: Specifically?

A: The fried chicken at Watershed on Tuesdays. That broth that’s made of cooked soul food at Mary Mac’s.

Q: The potlikker?

A: Yes. The potlikker. And those sliders with the quail egg at Canoe. [Another restaurant owned by McKerrow.]

Q: How does diet fit into a good fitness regime?

A: You can’t be fit if you’re hungry. You can’t be fit if you’re starving and poor. Knowing what good food is and where it comes from is so important. That’s what Vanessa [Vadim, Fonda's daughter, a well-known good food activist in Atlanta] is so good at.

Q: How do you keep so fit and eat well? All good things in moderation?

A. I don’t do desserts. But I do sliders! I like stuff that tastes good, but I just don’t eat too much of it.

Q: Has being a Southerner changed the way you eat?

A: No, but it’s changed the way I think. People on the coasts just don’t understand the realities of the people who live in the middle of the sandwich.

Most of the people making negative comments have never helped anyone. Jane Fonda, has helped many people and stood up for some right. Nobody is that perfect. We change as life goes along whether it be good or bad, but mostly for the good. Some people need to be more compassionate. In the days and times we live in you don’t know when you will need some type of help. So what she enjoys nice restaurants, who does not? Great work Jane Fonda and to her many charitable contributions. She should let all you haters be her motivators.

It is a brighter dayin Dixie when this Pinko Commie North Vietnam Witch leaves the South. Promise me you traitor you’ll never come back. Not all of us has forgotten how you betrayed the American POW’s and lead to one of the worst beatings on John McCain by Fonda’s host friends in North Vietnam when he was the ranking POW officer of the ‘Hanoi’ Hilton. You will be judged one day witch…

I think she should have gotten the Medal Of Honor for what she said and did. All of you with negative comments probably voted for George Bush even though he, Chaney, Rove and whomever else staged their own private misguided war. If you want to look at the problem, take a look in the mirror. God bless you Jane Fonda.

What is the obsession that the AJC has with Jane Fondu? Do we really need any more articles about this old hag?

Lots of tater tot eaters posting here.

The Vietnam War shouldn’t have gone on as long as it did, just like the Iraq and Afganny Wars should be over with by now. Jane was just trying to do her part to bring that awful, fruitless war to a close.

For those who criticize her, I hope you’re on the next plane to Afganny to do your part in war you obviously love and support. You people make me sick. A bunch of cowards.

Jane, hang in there and come back to your adopted home any time.

A real man from the South knows how to be a gentleman.

I’m a vet from the late fifties thru the early sixties and I happen to think she is one classy dame. It took alot of balls to do what she did during the Vietnam police action——more balls then these haters that post their vienum. She was trying to stop something that should have been stopped before 50,000 plus of our troops were killed. If you haters want to rant, do it at Congress, they are the ones who got us into that mess and then played a joke on Americans by declaring victory when ther was none.

I thought she left Ted because “she was tired of starving to stay slim”. Well, she still looks slim. Guess she’s “still starving”. Also, it looks like she’s had more than one facelift. Maybe the North Vietnamese can help her with that.

God bless Jane Fonda for all the good she has done.
I would be proud to share a slider or cup of pottlikker with her.
She is not a socialist or a communist but a great American.
Some of you people need to crawl back under your rocks.
Don’t start throwing rocks because you clearly live in glass houses.
