Riddle me this: Fried Hominy

Who knows what area restaurant starts your meal with this awesome bowl of warm, crisp, salty, lightly truffle-oiled, fried hominy?

It’s a fry-down in Roswell! Autentico INC’s fried hominy vs. Relish’s fried black eyed peas. (The peas will be on Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” on March 19th at 10 pm.)

I like the Roswell fry-down. Have never been to Relish, but definitely need to check it out.
So, yes, this is from Autentico Inc. Street food (http://www.incstreetfood.com/).

Looks like we have the fried ceci peas from Abattoir; fried hominy here; fried black-eyed peas in Roswell. Wonder what other pulses and legumes fry up nicely…

As much as it creeps me out that Relish was once a morgue I need to try that place out. I hated the sister place Fickle Pickle (how many things can involve pickles?) when I visited for a wedding shower. Fickle was just too silly with no serious for me. Any kind of salad sandwich is just mayo goop. Fried pickles were the only redeeming treat. But Relish keeps coming into my radar with items that perk my interest. What are your thoughts?

Authentico is on my to do list now.

I make a Cheesy Hominy Casserole, and I’m trying to imagine what fried Hominy tastes like. Anyone care to let me know? For some reason CornNuts come to mind.

it’s really good – different, but good. It’s hard to stop snacking on them because they come out nice and hot, they taste a little like popcorn, but then you have this great spicyness that takes over. I didn’t identify the truffle oil, but if it is . . wowsers. Good snack!
