Tops from the Blogs

Now that I have this big, fancy blogroll, I’m going to try to do a weekly round-up of the most interest-piquing posts. Without further ado:

A Cook and Her Books: lemon puddig

A Cook and Her Books made this appealing, seasonal warm lemon pudding and let her husband scarf up the all the strained-out bits. What a nicely written post. I can’t wait to try the recipe.

Cured Meats: lamb for prosciutto

Cured Meats: lamb for prosciutto

Cured Meats takes this boneless leg of lamb from Costco and seasons it with gobs of rosemary and other spices to make lamb prosciutto. Judging by the comments, a few folks are trying this.

Live to Nibble: Steamed papaya

Live to Nibble: Steamed papaya

This pretty steamed papaya contains coconut milk, honey and — oh, yes — the fallopian tubes of snow frogs. Live to Nibble ate this in China and will tell you about its texture and health benefits.

Sous Vide Geek: salmon

Sous Vide Geek: salmon

Sous Vide Geek made this tasty-looking salmon the first day he had his fancy new Sous Vide Supreme. The fist was cooked in a vacuum-sealed bag in circulating, controlled-temperature water, then seared in a hot pan.

Young & Hungry: "Master Chef" call

Young & Hungry: "Master Chef" call

This is Christine from Young & Hungry, the day she went to the line-around-the-block cattle call for contestants for the new Gordon Ramsay show “Master Chef” at the Viking store. See what she prepared.

I really wanted to go to that but was flying out of town at 9 am. The stuffed Squid sounds good, but food can be so un photogenic some times, what size squid did you use its hard to tell? Cute coat Christine! come find me on twitter @centripetal

Hi Tom – casting call was a blast! The squid I originally bought at the Dekalb Farmer’s Market were huge (maybe 5+ in), but the ones from Whole Foods I used for the casting call were much smaller, which made them difficult to slice and plate… That said, I still got a call back :) You can follow me at @CMChicPea. Take care.

Pressure is on. I’ve got to snap my writer’s block tonight and get some overdue posts published. I think we’ll go for faux-b-q pork shoulder and smoked garlic.

Edit previous comment: Thank you for the kind words regarding A Cook and Her Books. (I don’t get out much.)

Great idea, John; maybe this will be the incentive I need to get my cheesemaking blog running.
