The quest for October glory and a glorious managing career may be over, but Bobby Cox certainly has enough memories to contemplate as he swirls a wine blended just for him. With the assistance of Smyrna’s United Distributors, The Atlanta Braves commissioned a special cabernet sauvignon blend called SIX, produced by Trinchero Family Estates and crafted by renowned California winemaker Joel Gott. The wine was put it in an etched, painted three-liter bottles depicting Cox in a familiar pose: standing at the edge of the dugout cheering on his Braves. A bottle was presented earlier in the season to Cox during one of his many tributes. Several cases of Trinchero’s well-regarded Chicken Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon were also produced using the same artwork in smaller format bottles for Braves staff members to raise a glass to their former field general and friend, no. 6 Bobby Cox. Unfortunately, these bottles will not be available for sale to the general public, but the 2008 Chicken Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon sans Cox can be found at better wine shops and restaurants. Suggested retail: $35.

Is it a home run or a bloop single? Maybe a solid double?

Maybe an error. It seems Joel Gott doesn’t make wines (although his name is on the bottle). It is Joel’s wife, Sarah, who really is the winemaker/blender at Joel Gott Wines. She’s the former winemaker for Joseph Phelps and Quintessa. I wouldn’t doubt the quality of Bobby’s wine, though.
