Beer Pick: Sweetwater Sch’Wheat

Sweetwater Sch’Wheat
Sweetwater Brewing Co., Atlanta, GA

$8.99/ six-pack at metro beverage and grocery stores; also on draft at many metro beer bars.

sweetwater-schwheat
Profile: The newest year-round beer from Sweetwater is an unfiltered American-style wheat ale. Released just in time for summer sipping, it’s light and refreshing, with bright citrus notes, malty sweetness, and some hop zip. Generally, American wheat beers don’t feature the spices common in Belgian wheat beers or the banana and clove yeast flavors that make German wheat beers so distinctive. Sch’Wheat is no exception. But this clean, easy-drinking brew is bound to be a warm weather favorite.

Pair with: The acidic citrus notes in Sch’Wheat make a good match for garden-fresh summer salads, goat cheese and seafood. Like most wheat beers, it makes a surprisingly companionable brunch beverage, especially with egg and cheese dishes, such as omelets and frittatas.

I had Sch’Wheat at the Sweetwater Brewery during their Beer Week event and it was excellent! Great crowd and a great beer!

SchWheat is on draft at the brewery tours every Wed, Thurs, and Friday from 5:30 – 7:30 and Sat from 2:30 – 4:30. Also draft of SchWheat is now popping up all over Atlanta in bars and restuarants – tasty session beer for sure

A damn fine accompaniment to the Adult Field Day I hosted last week. Tug-o-war, sack race, then buckets of cold Sch’wheat afterwards…

After missing out on 420Fest, I kept a watchful eye for bottles of Sch’Wheat to hit the shelves. I grabbed a six-pack the day it debuted in Athens, GA (before I think many places in Atlanta had it available). That afternoon, which was unusually warm for late April, a few friends and I took our first tastes. Almost all wheat beers pair well with warmer weather, but this excels! Being unfiltered, the body is nice and refreshing. The absence of strong coriander and orange peel in most Belgian-style wheats is a welcome change, and the hops end each sip with a tiny, tiny bite, making me want another sip immediately. I look forward to relaxing with some more Sch’Wheats as the weather down here gets schweaty.

Had my first Sch’wheat after cycling 35 miles with dear friends, hanging out on the deck, Memorial Day Weekend. I indulged in a second and then third because, of course, I felt I sch’weated enough for them! Life is indeed Sch’wheat!

I happened upon Sch’wheat at the 420 fest, and after a few failed attempts to find some in Athens, I finally spotted a 6-pack on a quick pre-Braves game beer run a couple of weeks ago. I bought it, happy to have found it again-wheat beer is, of course, the best for summer! And now I’m looking for some more–my boyfriend drank most of it before I had a chance!!

Opened the swimming pool this weekend with Sch’Wheat’s help: Sunshine, Jimmy Buffet on the radio, grilled wings, Cornhole tournament, greased-watermellon race across the pool, and cases of Sch-Wheat made for the perfect weekend. THAT and the bikini tops that mysteriously “fell off” a few of the lovely ladies by the pool!

Had my first Sch’Wheat after finishing the Sweetwater 420 5K. What a perfect way to finish that race cooling off in the shade with a Sch’Wheat and a few good friends!

One of my favorite Sweetwater brews. When I moved from Atlanta to Oxford, Mississippi (I know), I almost cried knowing I wouldn’t be able to buy Sweetwater in this god-forsaken place. Lucky for me, I can stock up when I visit my parents. First time I had Sch’wheat was at an Ole Miss baseball game, surely making everyone around me jealous. I need to start a petition to sell Sweetwater here…

I was moving all my stuff out of the house that I had spent the last 4 years of my life perfecting following a divorce that I didn’t want. Part of the ‘agreement’ was that I got to keep all of the beer that I had cellaring in the refrigerator in our garage. This fridge had tons of great stuff in it when I left, including about 16 liters of … See MoreFestive from years past, a dozen or so Donkey Punches from the last Dank Tank, and even some Happy Endings. When I got back to remove the fridge, it was nearly empty.

I couldn’t wait to try Sch’Wheat. The anticipation and lead-up to its release were agonizing. When the big day finally came near, I realized that it would only be introduced in the Tacklebox. Awesome!! Like I need an excuse to buy another Tacklebox from my good friends at Pop’s. I chose to make the first Sch’Wheat experience at a neighborhood Easter Egg hunting gathering – what better way to enjoy a fantastic new beer than by sharing it with your friends! Upon popping the cap, seeing the large, foamy, white head and inhaling the refreshing aromas of grain with just a hint of citrus tones, I knew I was in for a treat. The taste was outstanding. A very wheaty flavor with those same lemon-citrus overtones, but also something I did not expect – a nice hoppy flavor that zipped it all up nicely! I have definitely found my beer for the coming summer months!

Enjoyed a Sch’Wheat for the first time at this year’s SweetWater 420fest! Loved it and was so happy to see SweetWater brew a wheat beer. Great addition to the rest of the great brews!!!

My buddy and I enjoyed the highly anticipated Sch’Wheat at this year’s 420fest. We’d read about it and were not surprised that it exceeded our expectations! Two weeks later, upon my return from a quick trip to Germany, I was greeted with a vision of lovliness when he was picking me up at Hartsfield… A case of Sch’Wheat in the backseat!! I love German beer, but I’d prefer a Sch’Wheat any day. Great job!!!

I had quite a Sweetwater day this past Sunday. Picked up a Tackle Box so I could enjoy a few varieties while watching “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”- The Indy 500. Sch’Wheat is definitely a new favorite and a great addition to the regular line-up. While enjoying the Sch’Wheat, my wife made some of the Beer and Cheese fondue with the recipe we got from the 420 bread. Paired nicely and I didn’t mind giving up a cup of 420 for it!

I enjoyed a sch’weat as my first celebratory drink following my daughter’s birth. It was the perfect way to kick off summer, my return to being able to drink (Hooray!) and my darling little girl’s arrival. Sch’weat will be a part if my adult time from here on out! :)
