‘Don’t ask’ consigned to history’s dust bin

Today, in an unusual Saturday session, the U.S. Senate abolished legally-sanctioned discrimination by the United States Armed Forces. Since the House has also voted to end it, the foolish “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is assigned to the dustbin of history, along with the racially segregated Armed Forces, the belief that black men would be cowardly and unfit soldiers and the insistence that women could not fly combat aircraft.
The overwhelming vote, 65-31, came despite the statements of Marine Commandant James Amos, who insisted that a non-discriminatory Marine Corps will mean more dead U.S. Marines on the battlefield. That’s sheer and utter nonsense, more a testiment to his prejudices than to any evidence that gay Marines do not serve with courage and honor.
One of the more interesting and intellectually honest arguments that separates conservatives and liberals is over whether love of country must be unconditional. Many conservatives tend to argue that those of us who are constantly agitating to change the nation — to improve its policies, to perfect its justice, to broaden its opportunity — aren’t real patriots.
I could not disagree more. I love my country so much that I’ll do what I can to ensure that it lives up to its ideals. Today, the U.S. Senate brought it one step closer to those ideals.

I’m late for a football watching party.

You guys try to have a happy holiday season. It’s smart to be happy. It lowers the blood pressure and makes interactions with other people much more rewarding.

if you can’t be happy during the Christmas Season, there’s really no hope for you. Just don’t make the people around you miserable. They deserve better from you.

What astounds me is this penchant by non-believers to hate the fact that Christians love Christmas

Ahh the false persecution card. “Non-beleivers” dont hate the fact that “Christians love Christmas”. Many “believers” do dislike the commercial overtones of what to them is to be religious holiday. “Non-believers” who are not Christian may dislike that Christmas used to be thrown out there without recognition of other holidays that are as meaning to them as yours is to you. And non-beleivers and many believers do hate when you try to impose Christmas or Christian believes into government, the courts, the schools, etc. Few, if any, have ever said you are not welcome to your believes….just stop trying to force others to participate in “Christmas”, silent prayers, overt prayers, religious symbols on government property or any other number of silly things.

“I have found that most homosexual men have simply not emotionally matured past adolescence where everything is sexual.” — frankly I think that reflects your own immaturity and prejudice. You have not met “most homosexual men” to even be a judge. But hey, let’s judge heterosexuals by the likes of those who attend strip clubs or the sexual maturity of Howard Stern and his listeners. Let’s judge most marketing people by the sexuality portrayed in their marketing

You may want to learn about that grubby twigs and berry in your face and tell me about the maturity level of sanctimonius marketing people.

It does not belong there.

God HAS Saved America From homophobes and bigots. There will not be a rainbow colored ribbon worn next to any other ribbon. The reason? It does not belong there and no one has ever said it does. Not any more than being straight deserves a ribbon.

“‘Don’t Ask’ consigned to history’s dust bin,” but the truth about homosexuality remains:

-A twenty-five to thirty-year decrease in life expectancy

-Extremely promiscuous sexual activity

-20 times more frequent use of methamphetamine

-Primary and secondary syphilis that is more than 46 times that of other men and more than 71 times that of women

-A much higher rate of gonorrhea, various forms of hepatitis, and anal and genital warts

-HIV diagnoses that is more than 44 times that of other men and more than 40 times that of women

-Frequently fatal rectal cancer

-A much higher than usual incidence of suicide

By the way, don’t you think we should allow midgets to serve? They would really be useful in tanks and on submarines.

Serving in the U.S. military is NOT a right (or a blind person could join). It is a privilege albeit a less honorable one after yesterday’s vote.

I have always wondered as I read the hateful and homophobic retoric spewed on these blogs…have some of you EVER actually met a gay man or woman and had an actual conversation with them?

I have the MOST honorable gay son who amazes me every day with his humanity. I am proud to be his father! When he told me he was gay, a little while later he found me crying and he came in and aplolgized for letting me down. I said “NO. I need to apologize to you for for not beating the %^(# out of our “friends” who would tell gay jokes around you.” Now whenever ANYONE tells a derogatory gay joke around me, I tell them my son is gay and I don’t appreciate them belittling my son. That ALWAYS stops them and they stammer and stutter. It puts a face on their bigotry.

So far he has not found a mate. When he does we will have another son in our family and he will be completely welcomed and loved.

If my son were to tell me he was gay this is what I would say (tough love):

1) I love you as my son and always will.
2) What you “feel” is one thing. What you “do” is another.
3) Some men “feel” like cheating on their wives. What they “do” is another matter.
4) I will do everything I can to help you deal with this emotionally, spiritually and even physically destructive lifestyle.
5) If you were married and having an adulterous affair, I would not let you bring that woman into our home. Neither will I allow you to bring a male sexual partner into our home.
6) Sometimes “celibacy” is the only answer and in this case it is.

Let’s all keep in mind that…just because gays can now serve openly…it doesn’t mean that they’re not still soldiers. Everyone realizes (I certainly hope) that gays will be expected to maintain the same standards of dress and behavior as straight soldiers. Nobody will have pink hair, no “modifications” will be allowed to military uniforms (including “rainbow” pins), men will still not be allowed to wear ear-rings. Barracks will not suddenly become bath-houses, and straight soldiers will not have to endure comments about their “junk”. Straight soldiers are not allowed to wear their uniforms wherever they want, so gay soldiers won’t be allowed to, either…which means no impromptu “gay battalions” marching in gay pride parades. Outrageous flaming behavior will not be tolerated, any more than any kind of outrageous behavior is tolerated from straight soldiers.
It simply means that gays can serve our country without having to hide a big part of their life, or pretending to be something they aren’t. Gay soldiers have been defending the Constitution (with their lives, in some cases) for years, and it’s about damn time its protection is extended to them, as well.

Well of course the majority of HIV results from heterosexual transmission, because, of course, the vast majority of sexual activity worldwide is heterosexual. Although, just as with homosexuality, the vast majority of heterosexual HIV transmission results from sinful sexual (drug, etc.) behavior. The HIV rate among married monogamous heterosexuals is virtually non-existent. Also, even though the majority of HIV transmission occurs through heterosexual activity, proportionally the rate of HIV is MUCH higher among homosexuals.

TGT, try this from the CDC:

Regression analyses determined that recent meth users were more likely than men who had never used meth to be sexually active with a female partner, have multiple female partners, have a casual or anonymous female partner, have anal intercourse with a casual or anonymous female partner, have a female partner who injected drugs, or have ever received money or drugs for sex from a male or female partner (Table 2). Recent meth use was not associated with reported condom use during the preceding 6 months, but this might reflect overall infrequent condom use among the 968 men in the study population, who had a median of 48 reported acts of vaginal intercourse and a median of five uses of condoms during vaginal intercourse. Recent meth users were no more likely to have been tested for HIV or chlamydial infection than were men who had never used meth. Among historical meth users, sexual activity with higher HIV-transmission risk (i.e., anal sex) was identified primarily among those with main female sex partners only. Both recent and historical meth users were more likely to report they had ever been forced into sex by a male or female than men who had never used meth. After adjustment for demographic characteristics, recent and historical meth use was associated with recent use of one or more other illicit drugs,* use of club drugs,† and specific use of marijuana, ecstasy, hallucinogens (e.g., LSD), crack cocaine, and cocaine
