‘Don’t ask’ consigned to history’s dust bin

Today, in an unusual Saturday session, the U.S. Senate abolished legally-sanctioned discrimination by the United States Armed Forces. Since the House has also voted to end it, the foolish “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is assigned to the dustbin of history, along with the racially segregated Armed Forces, the belief that black men would be cowardly and unfit soldiers and the insistence that women could not fly combat aircraft.
The overwhelming vote, 65-31, came despite the statements of Marine Commandant James Amos, who insisted that a non-discriminatory Marine Corps will mean more dead U.S. Marines on the battlefield. That’s sheer and utter nonsense, more a testiment to his prejudices than to any evidence that gay Marines do not serve with courage and honor.
One of the more interesting and intellectually honest arguments that separates conservatives and liberals is over whether love of country must be unconditional. Many conservatives tend to argue that those of us who are constantly agitating to change the nation — to improve its policies, to perfect its justice, to broaden its opportunity — aren’t real patriots.
I could not disagree more. I love my country so much that I’ll do what I can to ensure that it lives up to its ideals. Today, the U.S. Senate brought it one step closer to those ideals.

I have said it once, and I will say it again. If any individual is serving in the United States Armed Forces and is willing to die for our country, who gives a crap who they sleep with at the end of the day. People don’t choose to be gay just like all you straight individuals didn’t choose to be straight. You were born that way. And for those that are preaching about Leviticus on this blog, Why don’t you not copy and paste the text so it reads the way you like it. Leviticus also states you shouldn’t eat pork or you are sinning against the father, it also states that if a child insulting its parents (Leviticus 20) that they are to be stoned to death. Leviticus also states for all you lovely child bearing women In Leviticus 12 that if a woman who gives birth, whether to a boy or to a girl. 8 If she can’t afford a lamb, she is to take two doves or two young pigeons, the one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering; the cohen will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’” I really don’t see any of that going on around Atlanta up in the Maternity wings of the local hospitals. Get the point. It is time for equal rights for everyone, and this is just one step that makes the future brighter to over 10% of the population.

If this was such a great idea, why did they wait until the weekend before Christmas? Wouldn’t this have been a great bill to pass the week before the elections? Imagine the landslide victories this would have guaranteed for those who sided with it.

Well I reckon President Obama traded away allowing the tax cuts on folks making over 1 million for this.

Was it worth it? I don’t know. I’d like to think that had he held firm he could have had both. But maybe not. I reckon a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Since this means the military will collapse, I just looked out my window to see if I saw any mushroom clouds or Chinese or North Korean paratroopers dropping from the sky, but the coast seems clear for now. Maybe the invasions will be tomorrow…………

Anyways, congratulations my homosexual brothers and sisters in arms, it’s been a long time coming. (LOL I had the strongest temptation to say, “now you can be in each others arms” but I resisted it.)

For all the Bible thumpers in here…as soon as you start following the letter of every OTHER law in the Bible, then I’ll listen to you about how homosexuality is an abomination. Wait a minute, no I won’t. Because a 4,000-year-old slavery and animal sacrifice manual is no guidebook for how to live life in the year 2010.

USMC…I think anyone who is “man” enough to be a Marine isn’t going to be worrying about whether the gy next to him in the enlistment line is gay. He’s going to be worrying about whether or not the gy next to him will be able to shoot straight and possibly save his life. I think you don’t give the new generation of recruits enough credit.

Why the anger in your post? Just a conversation. I never said anything about gays in the military good or bad.. Please go back and read my initial post. Do you really think Jesus is happy about any wars going on? I never said he was. Please don’t twist my words. Religion aside, many “tolerate” Gays without accepting and embracing the lifestyle as it doesn’t affect or impact their lives at all. It is not an important issue in their life because it does not pertain to them. So I guess the next step in the military is when some testosterone ridden drill officer dresses one down for any reason he opens himself open to being dishonorably discharged for hate speech. Or if another soldier calls one out for non performance during combat training. The real important issues in this country that the majority of american’s deem important are creating jobs, balancing the budget, making sure social security is solvent in the near future, etc. You Libs only seem to want the power of government to control the thoughts, actions and behavior of the citizens forcing compliance with the elitist liberal social programming.

This is what happens when God has turned society over to its sin….Call it normal all you want, but it is not..the fact is, 10 out of 10 people die, and then you are headed for judgement Heb 9:27, and your only hope is Jesus Christ….You people hate Jesus because your sin is exposed in the light..nothign new…anyone that supports homosexuality is lost ….you can think you won all you want, but there is a judgement day, and ujnless you repent you’ll be gnashing teeth in darkness for eternity….

@M:

You post at 4:55 makes absolutely no sense. Christianity is not based on those 4000 year old laws. Only the Jews need to adhere to that crap, and they sure as hell don’t. When bashing the bible thumpers, it would help if you knew enough of the theology to make a cognizant point. If you need help, just ask. I understand when you people who DON’T know the bible and the theology get it wrong, but it really chaps my ass when Christians twist the words.

@M – Not sure where you got your information from about Jesus. Yes, he was crucified, died and was buried. I think you missed the part on how He came back to life, resurrected on the third day! That was the best day in all of our lives. This gave us the opportunity, as sinners, to ask Christ into our lives and by doing so we can have everlasting life. Jesus, paid that price – that’s where “Free Gift” came from!

Every homosexual, gay, bi-sexual, transgender should be allowed to serve and die for the US, and just wait until Al-Qaeda finds them, they will use your homosexuality to punish you. Good decision to allow them to serve openly, I served with gays and did not care about their sexuality. At the end of the day they do a good job at what they do for the military and the US.

Would he suddenly demand all divorced soldiers to resign?

And just for kicks…Would he now demand all poor people to sell their belongs and give the proceeds to a rich man?

Come on, lets get some answers out of you Christians that want to turn war into something Christlike. The nonsense you are spouting now is a total failure. Dig in!!!

This is my fear as well jay. I was always combat arms, IE infantry. We used “gay humor” all the time. Not in a derogatory way, but just damn, when you live in as close physical proximity as you have to in the infantry it’s going to be bantered around.
