Inspired by Obama, Republicans of color win more seats

It was a huge night for Republicans, who routed Democrats to take back the House of Representatives. It was also a pretty good night for Republicans of color: More black and Latino GOPers were elected to Congress than ever before.
In another historic first, South Carolina elected an Indian-American as its governor. Nikki Haley, whose parents are Sikhs who immigrated from India, had to overcome vicious slurs and personal assaults from her opponents; among other things, a Republican lawmaker who supported one of her opponents called her a “raghead.” (Haley, by the way, is Methodist.)
New Mexico, meanwhile, had its own first — electing a Latina Republican, Susana Martinez, as governor. That race had attracted national attention because it featured two women vying for the seat. Martinez defeated Democrat Diane Denish.
And last but certainly not least, two black Republicans and several Latinos will go to Congress. From AP:

“Color is becoming less of an issue,” said Richard Ivory, a black Republican political consultant and founder of hiphoprepublican.com. “There was a time when the white electorate saw race first and made judgments based on this alone. While black Republicans and Obama disagree ideologically, both are candidates whose message surpassed pigment.”

Mark Sawyer, a UCLA professor and director of the university’s Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity and Politics, said Obama’s election pushed the GOP to adjust to a more diverse electorate by seeking out minority candidates.

But he noted that almost all the victorious GOP minorities were elected in majority-white areas and opposed measures such as comprehensive immigration reform that are favored by many Latinos and blacks.

And I’ve never concerned myself with winning your respect. I could change to another screen name and do that in seconds. Sorry our differing means I lose this courtesy.

- -…..the Republicans just ran on “NO”….- -

Thank God. they couldn’t get the Health Insurance Company Enrichment Act of 2010 stopped before it was slimmed through but they almost stopped it.

- -now let them address the aging infrastructure…..- -

The vast majority of infrastructure problems are local. And the amount of money the Fed actually pays for infrastructure repair is miniscule.

- -let them address healthcare (which was based on Republican ideas in the first place!)…..- -

They had damned well better address it. It wasn’t a tragic disaster that the Democrats were saying it was in the first place.

- -let them address the problems with a declining manufacturing base that they ALLOWED to escape……- -

One more time: Clinton with a Democratic Congress passed NAFTA. Unions raised rates where US companies couldn’t make a profit so they took the incentives that other countries offered.

Open your mind. Look at the real reasons companies are leaving the US. We have the highest corporate taxes in the world. Our unions are ran by fascist who will come to your home and riot in front of your house if they don’t get their way. One visit from Union thugs like that, I would be moving my business to anywhere that those thugs couldn’t threaten me any more.

Start electing a government that is friendly to industry and then you can complain about the fact that so many industries have left.

‘Do blacks have any role in understanding what the Republican party stands for?” Yes…the preponderance of us DO! We know the history of the GOP…in that it was FOUNDED by black and white people…but we ALSO have noted the SHIFT in paradigms since 1964…..when the racist forms of conservatism came into the party and changed it!!

“Do they have any role in educating themselves on the differences between conservatism and liberalism?” Certainly…..and we do! Most black families are conservative in nature…but lest you forget, it was progressive policies (Civil Rights Act, Affirmative Action, EEOC) that FINALLY gave us full constitutional protections. It was CONSERVATIVE policies that created Jim Crow and segregation!!

” Do they have any responsibility in not denigrating and demonizing any black who dare to think, act, and vote as a Republican or Conservative?” You fail to remember that PRIOR to 1964, the GOP always received the majority of the black vote; when the party’s paradigm changed…so did the voting pattern. When conservatives persist that those conservative blacks made it SOLELY on their own effort, they persist in stating the lie that conservatism created the pathways towards success. If Civil Rights legislation hadn’t been passed….segregation could still be legal in the South!! Those paragons of conservatism that you emphasize are PRODUCTS of Affirmative Action….and when we hear of blacks deriding the programs that they themselves used to PROGRESS…the hypocracy speaks volumes!! When conservatives use racial codewords as prejoratives against a segment of society…how can you expect support from the community you denigrate???

“As noted the two blacks who won as Republicans won in primarily white districts, do you really think they would have stood a chance in a primary black districts? The answer is NO!!!” Here’s why! Black conservatives have been seen by many in the community as (for lack of a better word) stooges for white conservatives….for they persist in denigrating the community they came from. Wise man said: remember where yoo came from!! Did they have to sell out themselves in order to be ACCEPTED…or were they accepted on their merits?? Much too often when a person of color has played by the rules, the majority CHANGED the rules to deny the same consideration!! When racism rears its head, black conservatives DON’T challenge it; they mitigate it!! White conservatives marginalize the fact that racism exists….and a great deal of it comes from conservative paradigms!! WHen we believe that people are being USED for further one’s political influence rather than bettering the community as a WHOLE………

“And if blacks will not even accept individuals of their OWN COLOR who are Republicans then what chance does a non-black have in coming in the community.” The same chance IF they were effective in making policies ATTRACTIVE and beneficial to the community!!

“If there is room for Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Herman Cain, Starr Parker, Rod Page, Allen West, JC Watt, etc., then there is room for you and any other black.”
Herman Cain — educated at Morehouse!! Was NOT accepted into a predominately white institution. HIred at Pillsbury under Affirmative Action!!
Allen West – ex-military officer FORCED to resign his commission to avoid prosecution for atrocities in Iraq!
JC Watts…FIRST BLACK QUARTERBACK at Oklahoma….accepted under Affirmative Action…
Clarence Thomas — educated at Holy Cross; entered under Affirmative Acttion…now desires to have it eliminated!!

As one who believes in education and effort….I still am able to see that many needs of the community have yet to be addressed by EITHER party…but I also sese that my community has been IGNORED by conservatives!! In order to affect change in a community…you have to keep an EXAMMPLE IN the community!! Conservatives don’t COME INTO the community….and your tone is anathematic TO the community!! WE don’t want handOUTS….we want the SAME treatment and protections that ANY American is entitled to!! No more no less!! When I see the law being SELECTIVELY used by conservatives to marginalize segments of the population (immigrants, gays….) and marginalize differing religions with an air of hostility………

I embrace differences……conservatives denounce them…….

it isn’t a matter of differing. It is a matter that there really is racism in the world, but by you being yet another tool for the Democrats, calling others racist that you don’t know and only read what they write here, makes you one of the people that are lowering the standards for calling others racist.

You are a tool. Obama can stop a program that is only helping gifted Black Students in Washington DC and you don’t equate that with racism. That’s just good for the unions. To hell with the children. But taking a close look at the reasons why you think conservatives are racist just shows what a puppet you really are.

So today, you take the first Black man to set on the Supreme Court, something that you should be damned proud of, but because your plantation masters can’t get him to “go along” like you and so many of your ignorant brothers do, he’s not even a Black Man.

If the only way Judge Thomas is to be considered a Black man is to have him follow the orders issues by the DNC, then I guess he’s a White guy.

How indoctrinated are you?

You should be ashamed of yourself.

You Cynthia are a Jack Wagon and you can take that anyway you want. After all of your bashing on rebublicans, the only thing you can come up with for an article is that Obama is the reason people of “color” are winning elections. The article is nothing but race baiting and I would say beneath you, but I guess its not. You just need to be thankful that Atlanta is a majority city of “color” using your words, for if it wasnt Bookman would be on the last page and not you.

If Obama spent less time on the urban stations where he already has the votes and more time on the “non-color stations” again using your words he might have gotten more votes for his party.

Let’s get this straight!

1) NAFTA STARTED under George HW Bush! Here’s the history!
In 1988 Canada and the United States signed the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement after which the U.S. Congress approved implementing legislation. The American government then entered into negotiations with the Mexican government for a similar treaty, and Canada asked to join the negotiations in order to preserve its perceived gains under the 1988 deal.Following diplomatic negotiations dating back to 1986 among the three nations, the leaders met in San Antonio, Texas, on December 17, 1992, to sign NAFTA. U.S. President George H. W. Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Mexican President Carlos Salinas, each responsible for spearheading and promoting the agreement, ceremonially signed it.

2) Our unions are ran by fascist who will come to your home and riot in front of your house if they don’t get their way. Unions only serve EIGHT PERCENT of the American labor force!! They serve their collective employees in the ways that they were VOTED on to do by contract!! They can do NO MORE!!

3) According to conservaatives, you elected a pro-business President under Bush…and the economic environent declined! Corporations under Obama are making INCREASED profits!! Remember: TARP was a BUSH creation in order to address the finincail industries problems; the bailouts of GM and Chrysler by Obama AVOIDED more massive unemployment…and the government received a RETURN on its investment!!

4) Corporations imported illegals from across the border to depress the wage scale and increase their profitability!!

5) Business can not be trusted to police itself!! Note BP….and just recently — Delta:

…from the AJC:
Delta fined for deceptive practices on delayed baggage compensation

The government plans to fine Delta Air Lines as much as $100,000 for unfair and deceptive practices in its compensation to passengers for delayed baggage.Delta put lower limits on delayed baggage compensation than it was allowed to, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Specifically at issue was Delta’s distribution of baggage information pamphlets at some airports earlier this year that said Delta would not authorize any expense reimbursement if a passenger’s delayed baggage was expected to reach them within 24 hours. They also said Delta’s liability would be capped at $25 per day after the first 24 hours up to a maximum of $125 per customer when the passenger is away from home.

The pamphlets were given only to people with delayed baggage.

The DOT said Delta is not allowed to limit its liability to less than $3,300 for lost, damaged or delayed baggage. The DOT’s enforcement office had issued a warning to airlines in October 2009 saying that it would pursue enforcement if unlawful reimbursement policies were not corrected.

6) The corporate tax structure is comparable to other areas of the world! Note – Ireland is business friendly…but business profits there DECLINED…and a RECESSION has ensued!!

It’s more to it than just tax rates and tax cuts!!

Nothing,

Quite the contrary, Clarence Thomas should be ashamed of himself. When have you ever heard me claim to be a Democrat? I would assume you might have drawn this conclusion from my postings.

This is you at 1:01pm “calling others racist that you don’t know and only read what they write here, makes you one of the people that are lowering the standards for calling others racist”.

Sooooo, this ability to comprehend through the written word only applies to you?

This is why the issue of racism can’t be properly addressed. Those who are racist refuse to see themselves that way because they don’t want someone else pointing out their particular proclivity. If we don’t point this out a person may continue delusional in the belief that “I have a Black friend” therefore I’m couldn’t be racist.

Now before you go to “does this apply to Black people”? Of course it does but a toothless tiger is not much worry.

Power is the deciding factor in how institutional racism is implemented. I could care less about you being racist. You don’t matter.

Cynthia – the only inspiration Obama gave was the inspiration to get out and vote against his policies and against the cronies in Congress who worked closely with him to promote his agenda. Blacks and Latinos were elected last night because they have great ideas and stand for values America believes in (with the exception of Hank Johnson). For the same reason – people want Obama OUT because his ideas and agenda go AGAINST what the majority of Americans want. But I guess if anyone votes against Obama because of those reasons, they’re considered RACIST, aren’t they?

Everyone elected this term is a person of color. Some pink, some brown and some various shades in between.

We’re all African American too according to our DNA.

The big dichotomy in this race (no pun intended) was the role of the government in our lives and the size of our debt. The big motivators were the state of the economy and the perception that incumbant representatives were not listening to constiutents when they made policy.

Who is injecting race into politics.

Sadly when we do finally reach diversity there will always be those who make a living off of division and they will switch to blaming middle class people of color for the woes of poor people of color, or blame some for betraying their race. Good Grief@8:03, There were very few Republicans of color elected to any major state or federal office before last night. That’s just a fact.

The fact is that the first African-Americans ever elected to a major party was the Repubublican Party. Go back to the 1800’s when African-Americans were US Senators and Congressman both belonging to the Republican Party. 41st Congress (1869-1871)- Jefferson Franklin Long (Republican-GA), Joseph Hayne Rainey (Republican-SC), Hiram Rhodes Revels (Republican-MS). 42nd Congress 1971-1873:Robert Carlos De Large (Republican, SC),Robert Brown Elliott (Republican, SC), Joseph Hayne Rainey (Republican, SC), Benjamin Sterling Turner (Republican, AL), Josiah Thomas Walls (Republican, FL). 43rd Congress 1873-1875: Richard Harvey Cain (Republican, SC),Robert Brown Elliott (Republican, SC), John Roy Lynch (Republican, MS), Joseph Hayne Rainey (Republican, SC), Alonzo Jacob Ransier (Republican, SC), James Thomas Rapier (Republican, AL), Josiah Thomas Walls (Republican, FL). It goes on and on and on of all the African-Americans in congress all from the Republican Party (baic.house.gov/historical-data/representatives-senators-by-congress.html?congress=44.) The trend here is its all Republican Party in the racist Democrat south. In fact, the Democrats, members of the KKK at this time, issued cards with the faces of the African-American congressman and senators and told fellow democrats to lynch them if they saw them.

I just wanted to set the story straight that Obama was late on the inspiration by about 140 years. Sorry Cynthia. I blame our extreme liberal/left friends who control the US education for kinda deleting this important history from our textbooks used in school. Hmm, I wonder why? And by the way, Black History occured waaaayyy before the Civil Rights Movement. Why must we forget African-Americans who have major accomplishments during the 1700 and 1800’s like, umm I do not know, helping to find the cure for polio? See what Liberals do when they get ahold of kid’s textbooks.
