Latino vote could save Harry Reid and other Democrats

In mid-term elections that will be decided on the basis of turn-out — which candidate does the better job of getting his/her voters to the polls — some influential Spanish-language media outlets, including Univision, have launched last minute campaigns to get Spanish-speaking voters to go to the polls and cast their ballots. From The WSJ:

Days before the midterm elections, Spanish-language media have unveiled a get-out-the-vote blitz to energize Hispanic voters, whose turnout could be decisive in many races. . .

“There are 12 million Hispanic registered voters…If we all vote on Nov. 2, we will make a decisive impact,” says one spot featuring Judge Cristina Pereyra, star of the network’s court show, “Veredicto Final” (Final Verdict).

“We are going to be banging the drum of ‘You have to go vote, you have to go vote,’” said Ramon Escobar, Telemundo’s executive vice president of network news, in an interview.

Although Latinos are projected to make up less than 10% of the nation’s voters in November and are less likely to cast a ballot than the rest of the electorate, their participation could be decisive in states like Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas, which have large Hispanic populations and competitive races.

That initiative could make a difference in tight races across the country, such as the contest between tea partier Sharron Angle and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Democrat has cast his lot with Nevada’s Latino voters, supporting comprehensive immigration reform, while Angle has run vicious ads casting Latinos as criminals. (See video below).

Angle’s ads and similar campaign invective have helped to create a climate in which nearly two-thirds of Latinos in the United States think they are being discriminated against, according to a poll by the Pew Hispanic Center.

There is every reason for Latinos to turn out heavily on Tuesday.

1. AS we are all aware, while many of small businesses are in financial trouble, lots of big name companies are reluctant to expand businesses, even with adequate capital.

From what I understand, they might take into account that plenty of ordinary households are still facing Stagnant Income Raises & Runaway Healthcare Cost, and beyond, say, low demand.

Given, the choice is clear, which one is going a long way to desperately needed job boost, tax credit for 95% of middle class or others.

2. I hope strongly that Nevada also will take a bold action into solar energy space just like California.
To my knowledge, solar industry became more cost completive with the counterparts.

Ooo, here’s an idea, let’s push for people who came here illegally to be able to vote so that the Democrats will have a huge new voting block! Who cares that they broke the law, laws are for conservatives! Liberals, who always have our best interests at heart, don’t need to care about laws!

CT, I realize that editorial writers sometimes use language grab readers, but were I an official in this contest, I would flag you 15 yards for uncessary use of the word “save”. “save” Harry Reid and the Democrats from what? again, I know it is just as important to sell the sizzle, as the steak; but I find this word to be at the very core of what is wrong with the American political process. as I said, what/where is the “threat”? seems to me you are suggesting the Latino vote might “save” Reid (and Dems) from himself, or have I misread?

Images of Boss Tweed come to mind. As they cross the border, he shakes their hands, but instead of providing a loaf of bread, he says, “We’ll get you a SS card (several if you need them) and a driver’s license. Just remember to vote Democrat!”

You will say it’s the government’s fault. We have laws on the books. If a few slip through the cracks, it’s not their fault for trying. It’s government’s fault for not enforcing its laws.

Harry Reid is a representative of government. He finds himself in a position to where enforcing these laws works to his detriment. As the Senate majority leader, he is in an important figure in determining how sharp the teeth of government are in enforcing immigration laws on the books. It’s in his interests to make those teeth as dull as possible.

Democrats make a big issue of saying that they have steps in place to where businesses can input the SS number of an applicant to verify the validity of said applicant’s “right to work.” Curious that such measures aren’t also used to determine the right to vote.

And somewhere, Boss Tweed is smiling.

Two sets of questions:
1. Is it inherently racist to presume there is a “latino vote”? Why should all Latino’s vote the same way? Are their intersts all the same? Does race trump economic status, education, citizenship, faith, conviction or past experience? Can we do better in our country than identity politics? Why is he progressive instinct to look for blocs of voters based on race or gender?
2. Is this why Obama was suggesting that Latino’s punish their “enemies”? Is that kind of rhetoric appropriate for the president to use when referring to his polictial opponents? Doesn’t that kind of language raise the question that its really the democrats who are hoping to use race as a driving issue? Is it ok for Obama to call his political opponents “enemies”? What is the long term implication of having the president of the country seeing a significant number of American citizens as his enemies? Would you be ok if the parties were reversed and a leader of the other party while he was President called you his enemy?

Pres. Obama told hispanics on Univision radio that they must punish their enemies (read Republicans) this week. In an earlier speech Pres. Obama said Republicans must “sit in the back of the bus”. @Union

“The glitch caused Harry Reid’s name to be automatically checked on the ballot before voters had indicated who were they were supporting.”

Did you notice how this so called problem was not reported to election board officers. Someone went to the local Fox station to report this problem. It was investigated and proved to be false report.

“Controversy arose after Boulder City resident Joyce Ferrara complained to FOX5 that when she went to vote for GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle, Reid’s name was already checked.

“Something’s not right,” Ferrara said. She claimed her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said those claims were “patently false” and said at no time did any of those voters report the incident to staff at their polling location.

“In fact, although over 160,000 people have voted early in Clark County, those allegations that have been made have gone directly to the media as opposed to election board officers,” he said.

Lomax advised voters to be aware that touch-screens on the screens are sensitive. For that reason, a person may not want to have their fingers linger too long on the screen after they make a selection at any time.

“Especially in a community with elderly citizens (they have) difficulty in (casting their) ballot,” Lomax said. “Team leaders said there were complaints (and the) race filled in.”

At any time, voters can go back on the screen and review their selections. They are also allowed to make changes and encouraged to double-check their ballot on screen and on paper before it is cast.”

Keep up the good fight!

From MSNBC: Democrat Kendrick Meek told NBC’s TODAY show that he had discussions about the race in Florida with Clinton during the former president’s visits to the state to campaign on his behalf. But he denied that Clinton asked him to step down. “I never once told him that I was getting out and he never once asked me to get out.”
A number of media on Thursday, including Politico and CNN, reported Clinton had tried to persuade Meek to drop out of the race to prevent a win by the contest’s frontrunner, Republican Marco Rubio. “The argument was: ‘You can be a hero here. You can stop him, you can change this race in one swoop,’” a Democrat familiar with the conversations told Politico.
According to the Politico report, Meek agreed, and planned to endorse Crist, but then failed to go ahead with the withdrawal. Politico cited Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna. Meek denied there was any plan for him to drop out. He also rejected poll numbers showing him getting only about 15 percent of the vote in next Tuesday’s election.
Crist’s campaign, for its part, said in a statement: “While this story is accurate, the Governor’s focus is on uniting common-sense Democrats, independents, and Republicans behind his campaign because he is the one candidate who can defeat Tea Party extremist Marco Rubio and deliver bipartisan results for Florida in Washington.” The governor also confirmed to MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann that the discussions did occur, saying he had “numerous phone calls” with people close to President Clinton.

That speculation has been ongoing for months, so the AJC picks Fri before the election to REVISIT that issue.

Peadawg, your childlike logic amuses me. xenophobia is not “made up”. it is very real. it’s not a condition or disease. were I to define it, I’d say it is an emotion or feeling (irrational and baseless, but a feeling nonetheless). in many ways it is like religious dogma or ideology (as if the two are actually “separated” – just ask Christine O’Connell, she’ll tell you). the real “condition” of concern is the fact (not idea, or belief, but FACT) that shallow, superstitious Americans respond to xenophobic political ads.

Hispanics are growing more divided about how they view illegal immigration, and native-born Hispanics aren’t as convinced of the contributions of illegal immigrants as they used to be, according to a study released Thursday.
Hispanics are split when asked to assess the effect of illegal immigration on Hispanics living in the United States: 29% say it has had a positive impact, 31% negative and 30% believe it made no difference, according to the study by the non-partisan Pew Hispanic Center. That is a sharp decline from a 2007 survey, when 50% of Hispanics said illegal immigrants were having a positive impact.

You’re completely wrong on this. The court did not rule it illegal to ask for ID. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned Arizona’s requirement that people show proof of citizenship to register to vote. The court did uphold Arizona’s photo ID requirement.

A three-judge panel of the court said the proof-of- citizenship requirement conflicted with the intent of the federal law aiming to increase voter registration by streamlining the process with a single form and removing state- imposed obstacles to registration.

The federal law requires applicants to “attest to their citizenship under penalty of perjury” without requiring documentary proof, the panel said.

“Proposition 200 creates an additional state hurdle to registration,” the judges said.

You can certainly feel free to read between the lines (and that’s easy to do, seeing some of Cynthia’s past columns and posts). But, taking this at face value, Cynthia isn’t saying whether the LEGAL Latinos — who are the ones eligible to vote — do or do not have any valid reason to be offended by Angle’s ad. We can all have our opinions about that (and I certainly do!) but to a large degree, that’s irrelevant. The fact is, many Latino US citizens DO feel alienated, and are likely to vote for Reid.

On the other hand, I saw a summary of the Pew research, indicating that far more legal Latinos now view illegal immigration negatively, compared with just a few years ago. And i saw separate research indicating that many Latinos (and Catholics and women) who voted Democrat in the last election are expected to vote Republican this time around. Furthermore, Angle’s ad may be effective in getting more than enough non-Latino votes, from those who are fed up with the fed gov’s inability or unwillingness to effectively address the problem.

This will be a tight one, and it will be interesting to see how the Latino vote plays out.

Of course the majority will alway’s claim qualification but the fact is when the opportunities present themselves the priviledge is normally reserved for the majority.

I’ve heard the arguements time and time again, but majority preference not minority inability is the reason for lack of representation in many areas.

By playing fair you gain more support. Always circling the wagons leaves you, well going in circles.

Two items. The first your parrot Cynthia insinuated that exact idea that dems would expect much of Latino vote. Second, Obama is a politician, he is great at deflecting, flipflopping, and hiding reality. On the surface he might seem to crack down on illegals, but it is all a smokescreen. Yes. . .well, this is the con-artist con-servative campaign: “The brown people are illegally invading America. The black people are lazy and are welfare queens. The poor people are lazy or they wouldn’t be poor. The gay people are scary. The women need their wombs controlled because they aren’t capable to making proper decisions. The American people need to be fenced into their country. The old people should be patriotic and die. The rich people should be the only welfare recepients because they provide “jobs” for the poor. Get rid of the minimum wage. Give $3 billion a week to Iraq and AfghanLand but don’t expect money to be spent at home. Break the unions and give corporations full citizenship.”

to the guythat said “cry me a river and go back to your country and become a citizen the right away”….. if you had any reading comprehension skills you would’ve known those feeling discriminated are already citizens you silly goose. Look, like it or not, Latinos that are citizens see Angle ads and Vitter Ads and we say wtf? that’s how the GOP sees us? as seedy individuals? then you have the nerves to run a “Dont vote campaign because democrats havent done anything”…. a campaign that was secretly funded by republicans. So not only do you discriminate you are denying them the right to vote…… This southern strategy type thing is not gonna help. Bush was smart in courting the latino vote…. but you have lost the latino vote forever. Kudos to telemundo for trying to organize and get latino CITIZENS!, not illegals, to vote.

I’m gonna enjoy watching the election results….. Miller is done, Paul is a republican seat so he better win that one… Rubio, will be indicted as soon as he gets into congress, angle will lose, buck will lose, vitter will lose, rossi will lose, mukowski the one you hate s gonna win up there in alaska. and toomey ,well. he probably will win. So out of all the races you might gain 5 seats (indiana, Dakota and some other one i cant remember…big whoop).. Clap Clap Clap major victory. 2 of those “big time seats” kentucky and Penn are Republican seats or were before specter switched sides…. This is hardly a victory for your party… in fact, when you see the results in colorado…it will be the death of your party…. you are dividing the republican vote and alienating latinos at the same time. Older republicans are diying everyday newer democrats are being created every 2 years with kids becoming more aware about politics and more immigrants siding with the people that will protect them…. the republican party is in trouble……and the failure to win the house will be the crumbling of the house of cards… but you can start crying now voter fraud muah muah voter fraud!

kevinbgoode: Unfortunately, there probably are some sad folks who think the way you described. Racism is the manifestation of fear and ignorance, and occurs among all races and across the political spectrum.

Many intelligent, thoughtful people I’ve spoken to look at things a bit differently. “The US borders should be controlled to enhance national security, and the freedoms and benefits of US citizenship should be cherished and extended only to US citizens in order to strengthen our nation. We should show compassion to those in need, and help them learn to be self-sufficient, rather than contributing to a vicious cycle of reliance on the government. Gays are gay by birth, not choice, and should be free to live as they wish; but traditional families are the backbone of our nation and should be recognized as such. We should all take care of our families, young and old; and the elderly should be treated with dignity and respect. Corporate welfare is an abhorrent use of taxpayer money; firms that cannot stand on their own should reorganize under our bankruptcy laws or close shop, and the free market economy will adjust. The government should promote an environment in which the economy will be robust, providing all Americans with an opportunity to flourish. Being rewarded for success is not a sin; money belongs to those who earn it, not to the government. All Americans deserve an opportunity, not a government handout. The government should provide those services — such as defense, protection of private property, and equal justice under the law — which are necessary for a productive society and cannot be effectively provided by other means — but nothing more.”

Google: Republican National Committee regional political director James Tobin and GOP consultant Allen Raymond, leading candidate to head the Young Republican National Federation Rachel Hoff, Mark Jacoby and Young Political Majors hired by the California Republican Party arrested for voter registration fraud, etc

And while you are at it, you might want to look up “official charges”, GOP/Fox News talking points don’t count, filed and conviction for voter fraud against ACORN. You know what you’ll find: Neither ACORN nor its employees have been found guilty of, or even charged with, casting fraudulent votes.

A large number of Nevada ballots already had Harry Reid’s name checked. In Arizona, an off-shoot group of SEIU dropped off almost 3,000 voter registrations on the deadline day…and over 60% of those were fraudulent due to forged signature, invalid addresses, and registrants being illegal immigrants. And in California, elderly voters were being told to hand over their absentee ballots to strangers at the front door. (And I’m not going to pretend this just happens for one party…both parties are equally devious and dishonest.)

But there is no way Harry Reid is going to lose this election, Cynthia. In a few elections, where it would be tremendously embarrassing for the Democrats to lose…Reid, Barbara Boxer, the “Obama” senate seat in Illinois…the Republican candidate might well win the election, but will lose the vote count.

Yes, but I can’t believe the context that this person was speaking to. Like somehow Cubans don’t feel the discrimination that all Hispanics, including myself, have felt all our lives.

Harry R. doesn’t care about Hispanics anymore than Crist, Clinton, Obama and Meeks.

If you are Hispanic and vote for Harry, please don’t do it because you think he cares about you. Harry cares about being reelected so the Democrats can retain control of the Senate. The Democrats need to retain control so they can continue pushing what I believe is a Socialist quasi-Marxist agenda that I do not ascribe to.

My family came from poverty in a mostly Hispanic community. A few whites controlled everything and almost everybody.

In one generation, our American system allowed my family, with hard work, sacrifice, and no handouts, become successful. The agenda that the Democrats are striving for, if in place during my life, would have never allowed my family to prosper.

Believe it or not, there use to be a time when Republicans owned the African-American vote. Now they could care less and are happy to get 10% of that vote.

There used to be a time when a Republican could get a majority or plurality of the Latino vote in any given race around the country. Then came Gov. Pete Wilson and Prop 187 out in California. Now Republicans are happy to get a 30-35% of the Latino vote.

The United States is growing browner by the day..legally.All of the bluster and belligerence coming from Republicans today is just sealing their electoral fate for at least a generation or two. Oh sure, most of the Confederacy and the sparse rural states will remain “red” for a good log time, but slowly, but surely, the Republicans are losing voting share in all of the largest states.

Demographics aren’t destiny, but President Obama has indoctrinated young people of all races, whose share of the voting age population is increasing at the same time when the old southern guard of the Republican party is not replacing itself at a pace sufficient to continue to hold power.

So here’s to you my conservative citizens. Enjoy whatever it is you think you are going to win in a few days. Has President Obama has discovered, it’s harder to govern than to campaign. I personally am looking forward to the Republican nominating process when we’ll all be treated to plenty of Sarah, and Newt, and a lot of drama as they all work very hard to remind the country that the present occupant of the White House is the, without a doubt, the safer choice.

Peadawg et al demonstrate 1) the reason white conservatives will be alone in a shrinking pool of their kind in the near term 2) ignorance of how immigration law developed in this country and why and 3) why people accurately perceive that racial, gender and ethnic biases are driving the majority of conservative agitation and media presence (Fox News, Limbaugh, “Free” Republic, Red State).

How many of those Latino people are simply moving here to escape our benevolent foreign policy, such as Reagan’s dirty war in Central America, and Bush/Clinton/Bush Plan Colombia? Ever notice that after we start a hobby war in some foreign country we soon afterwards are dealing with an influx of the refugees we made? Conservatives don’t understand accountability or causation.

The U.S. Latino population probably feels betrayed by Obama because like so many of Obama’s campaign promises, meaningful immigration reform was sacrificed to cram through Obamacare. Reid will suffer for the same reasons. Hispanic Americans are concerned about the same things as everyone else: jobs, education, violence (particularly the drug wars in Mexico),and the future for their children. Democrats are making a fatal mistake by assuming that Latinos will blindly follow because of minority status. The Labor Unions have been responsible for starting trade wars with Latin america particularly in trucking. Harry Reid is too closely associated with Obama’s failed agenda to survive. The vote is not whether or not you agree with Angle. She will win simply because she is not Harry Reid and does not support Obama.

A 55 percent majority of voters disapproves of the job Obama is doing on health care. In addition, many would like Congress to repeal the new health care law, either entirely (29 percent) or in part (29 percent). Others would like to see the law expanded (20 percent). Some sober thinking on voting for Democrats is that in the first session of Congress, a Liberal Path to Citizenship or Amnesty will be instantly addressed by the Senate, and its main disciple Senator Harry Reid leading the pack. There has been no mention of costs of Amnesty to the taxpayer, from this administration or the radical progressive press, which remains silent. You need to Google–The Heritage foundation and learn of a sudden hike to come in your taxes, to pay the $2.6 Trillion dollars for all newly processed immigrant subsidies and settlement needs once legitimized. Barbara Boxer or any named incumbent has remained silent to the added abomination of giving these subsidies. This will be a new inventory of foreigners coming here that DEM’S have promised access to our Social Security. Full admission so those over the years who illegally worked here, can apply for their ill-gotten gains even after procuring or using fraudulent Social Security numbers.

Another reality is that any illegal alien can apply for Social Security, even though they never paid into the system. It’s beyond anybodies imagination that rewarding people who intentionally slipped into America, then gaining entrance to every kind of government benefit. Our country is slipping down a financial mountain of a $13 Trillion dollar debt and we want to make the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens feel at home? But then Gubernatorial Jerry Brown, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Antonio Villaraigosa have approved Sanctuary City policies and are tied to the same brush of most if not all Liberal politicians to pass AMNESTY. Sanctuary refuges have brought along with poor illegal aliens– criminals of every persuasion, from the gutters of every cesspool of the world. Sen. Reid stated there are no illegal aliens in Nevada, so he must have been sequestered in his home in Searchlight prior to the construction boom in Nevada?

Every comment I have read says that the state is overrun with illegal aliens. As for California– That place needs no explanation? There is a Liberal majority seated in Sacramento that keeps silent about the crammed schools full of the kids of foreign nationals, distressed emergency rooms and an uncomplimentary jail system full of alien criminals. But Sen. Boxer, have allowed the illegal population to propagate. Only patriotic citizens such as Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, State Senator Russell Pierce, in Colorado Gubnatorial Candidate Tom Tancredo have seen the invasion for what it has become and not remaining silent about it. Too many other politicians will not speak out –as they have been intimidated by the Liberal extremist “Political correctness”. They slink around Washington or State Capitol areas, scared of their own shadow. In additionally all citizens and taxpayers must be on guard of foreign nationals, voting in any election, to save their Liberal progressive saviors from becoming a number at unemployment agencies.

Our nation is being slowly Balkanized, by a mess of foreign languages and special disbursements by the Liberal open border zealots, to give away this nation to the worst of foreign nationals. The Tea Party political candidates will smoke out all foreign aliens, using such newly advanced tools as permanent E-Verify. Big Business will be held accountable with prison sentences for hiring illegal’s, and will not bow to either the Liberal progressives or the ideologies of the wealthy GOP. Remembering the new immigrants who arrived at Ellis Island and Galveston, Texas, during the 20th Century asked nothing, but acceptance. But the last decades have brought to this country monetary nationals who are demanding we knuckle down to their rules, demanding Amnesty, schools for their numerous children, free health care and public welfare. None of the richest countries in the world can afford this unnecessary fiscal strain; nether can we?

American taxpayers have nowhere to turn right now, with the repossession of their cars, the loss of their homes, failing health Care and a previous and post governments that have failed the people. IF AMERICAN PEOPLE GIVE INTO ANOTHER AMNESTY, IT WILL BE A SIGNAL TO EVERY POOR PERSON IT’S ALRIGHT TO BREAK THE LAW. THAT THIS NATION WILL WELCOME YOU AND PROFFER GOVERNMENT BENEFITS TO ANY LAWBREAKER. We need highly very skilled legal immigrant workers in our future and mandatory temporary workers for agriculture, but no more foreigners coming to pick our pockets.

We’re talking about illegal immigrants…which Republicans don’t want to give them a path to citizenship so why worry about them wanting to become citizens one day?

Bankruptcy protections are to protect the consumer from creditors. If they are criminals like Republicans claim them to be, then why would Republicans pass laws to protect these criminals?

As long as someone own property or a business in the U.S., they’re eligible for bankruptcy relief. But again, as Republicans point out they are criminals who are here illegally, so they should not own property or a business here.

He is an NCPA Distinguished Fellow, covering macroeconomic issues, including monetary policy, fiscal policy, tax and education policy. Bob is best known for his 36-year career with the Federal Reserve System, including 14 years as President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and member of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).

I’m sure he has more knowledge on the subject then you and I put together.

Do Democrats ever THINK about the things they want? They want a free-ride for the illegals, just to get their votes, and to heck with those of us that are losing out because of them. They want to give these lawbreakers welfare, housing, medical care, cater to THEIR language, give them special education (ESL), and kiss their butts…and have NO cares about the fact that they are BREAKING THE LAW just by being here. It’s time to vote these fools out, or we’ll have nothing left for ourselves and our children/grandchildren. I’ve never seen anyone dumber than a democrat…and even some of their own have had enough, and are voting against them. GOOD…some of them finally used their BRAINS.

@No More B.O. (It stinks!)

Let’s think about this for a minute. Let’s kick all illegals out. How do you propose to do that? What is your plan to accomplish this? How much will it costs and where will you get the money to round them all up (increasing the government by employing people to find them) and ship them out? Will you increase taxes to do this? What will happen when Americans refuse to do the work the illegals do for very little work? Will wages have to increase to get Americans to work on farms, etc.? Are you willing to have produce prices rise significantly to pay higher salaries? What will happen to construction costs in this country?

I never hear from conservatives about the contributions illegals make to this country. Our society prospers from everyone’s contribution…and yes, that includes illegals. Republican politician know this; otherwise, they would have rounded them up and shipped them out already. Especially since they recently had the power to do so when they controlled the White house and both houses of congress.

It is a fact that Barney Frank applied pressure to the banking mortgage industry to loan money to people that could not pay ir[sic] back.

Perhaps if you listened to actual journalists, you might have learned something.

Federal Reserve Board data show that:

* More than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages in 2006 were issued by private lending institutions.

* Private firms made nearly 83 percent of the subprime loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers that year.

* Only one of the top 25 subprime lenders in 2006 was directly subject to the housing law that’s being lambasted by conservative critics.

[...]

Between 2004 and 2006, when subprime lending was exploding, Fannie and Freddie went from holding a high of 48 percent of the subprime loans that were sold into the secondary market to holding about 24 percent, according to data from Inside Mortgage Finance, a specialty publication. One reason is that Fannie and Freddie were subject to tougher standards than many of the unregulated players in the private sector who weakened lending standards, most of whom have gone bankrupt or are now in deep trouble.

During those same explosive three years, private investment banks — not Fannie and Freddie — dominated the mortgage loans that were packaged and sold into the secondary mortgage market. In 2005 and 2006, the private sector securitized almost two thirds of all U.S. mortgages, supplanting Fannie and Freddie, according to a number of specialty publications that track this data.

It was the unregulated private mortgage companies that made the bulk of these loans, not banks.

Profiles of Troubling Tea Partiers
Karen Pack
Karen Pack describes herself as “a Christian, a Tea Party Member, a Constitutionalist and a Patriot”, is the leader of the Wood County Tea Part in Texas.. But she also has a history with the Ku Klux Klan. Documents show that Karen Pack of Winnsboro, subscribed to the “White Patriot” tabloid, and that Thom Robb’s Knights of the Ku Klux Klan listed her as an “official supporter.

Roan Garcia-Quintana
Roan Garcia-Quintana of Mauldin, South Carolina is involved in several local Tea Parties and served as “advisor and media spokesman” for the 2010 Tax Day Tea Party rally in Greenville, South Carolina. Garcia-Quintana recently joined the National Board of Directors of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), the largest white nationalist group in the country and direct descendant of the white Citizens Councils that fought to defend Jim Crow segregation during the 1950s and 1960s.

Peter Gemma
Peter Gemma, a resident of a Sarasota, Florida, belongs to the ResistNet Tea Party faction. Gemma is also a professional white nationalist. He served as head of Design, Marketing, and Advertising for the white nationalist Council of Conservative Citizens newsletter, the Citizens Informe — which has complained that minorities were turning the U.S. population into a “slimy brown mass of glop”.

Clayton R. Douglas
Sixty four year old Tea Partier Clay Douglas lives in Tucson, Arizona. The biker and one-time mayor of the tiny hamlet of Bingham, New Mexico is a member of the ResistNet Tea Party faction. Douglas uses his ResistNet website profile to advertise his Free American website and radio program — which has run racist stories like, “Are the Jews Behind the Destruction of America?” At a conference of another anti-Semitic group, Douglas once blamed Jews for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Larry Pratt
Larry Pratt of Virginia is a member of two different national Tea Party networks: Tea Party Nation and 1776 Tea Party. He has been promoting the gun and militia movement for years, and in 1992 spoke at a Colorado meeting of Aryan Nations leaders, former Ku Klux Klansmen, and adherents of so-called “Christian Identity” — a doctrine in which Jews are considered Satanic and persons of color are referred to as “mud people.”

Billy Roper
Billy Joe Roper is an enrolled member of the ResistNet Tea Party, a write-in for Arkansas Governor and a founder of the White Revolution. One of White Revolution’s rallies was held in Topeka, Kansas in May 2004, to protest the anniversary of Brown v. Over 181,000 dead people were still on the voter rolls of six swing states in the 2004 general election, including almost 65,000 in Florida, according to the bipartisan 2005 Commission on Federal Election Reform. Also in 2004, thousands on voter rolls had moved out of state or, as convicted felons, had lost the right to vote.

Photo IDs would at least make sure voters on state rolls are still residents on Election Day.

Voter registration is not voter fraud….sorry…thanks for playing.

Justice Department report shows very few prosecutions for illegally casting ballots. According to a report by the Public Integrity Section of the Justice Department, from October 2002 through September 2005, the Justice Department charged 95 people with “election fraud” and convicted 55. Among those, however, just 17 individuals were convicted for casting fraudulent ballots; cases against three other individuals were pending at the time of the report. In addition, the Justice Department convicted one election official of submitting fraudulent ballots and convicted five individuals of registration fraud, with cases against 12 individuals pending at the time of the report. Thirty-two individuals were convicted of other “election fraud” issues, including Republicans convicted of offenses arising from “a scheme to block the phone lines used by two Manchester [New Hampshire] organizations to arrange drives to the polls during the 2002 general election” — in other words, these convictions were connected to voter suppression efforts, not voter fraud. Several other people listed in the report were convicted of vote-buying.

As for the teabaggers…the comment was “…accusing tea party activists of bigotry with no proof whatsoever , the 5 names I provided and the additional one from Kam proved there is some proof. So the denial was a lie.

@Voting,

I noticed you implied Democrats commit voter fraud with no proof. He’s an example of how Republicans operate using voter intimidation reported by the AP…

A handful of McDonald’s employees in northeastern Ohio received handbills in their most recent paychecks suggesting they vote for three Republican candidates.

The handbill with a simple McDonald’s logo at the top recommended votes for Republicans John Kasich for governor, Rob Portman for U.S. Senate, and Jim Renacci for Ohio’s 16th congressional district. A Renacci campaign flier was also included.

“If the right people are elected we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above our present levels,” the insert said. “If others are elected we will not.”

John…more lies from the Heritage Foundation. The actual GAO report says on page 42 that “a federal jury administrator in one U.S. district court estimated that 1 to
3 percent of the people out of a jury pool of 30,000 over 2 years (about
300 to 900 people) said they were not U.S. citizens;” This was based on a telephone survery with no verifiable evidence, nor were jury pools created solely from voter registration records…they included drivers license registration. There was generally no investigation of non-citizenship in some courts (so it could be claimed to avoid jury duty).

In simple words, Heritage Foundation is distorting the claim to prove its bias.

Lets look at the history of Fox/Republican claims of voter fraud:

On the June 7, 2006, edition of MSNBC’s Hardball, Ken Mehlman, then the chairman of the Republican National Committee, asserted that illegal votes helped Democrats win the Washington state gubernatorial election. Contrary to Mehlman’s suggestion that Democrat Christine Gregoire owed her victory to illegal votes, the county superior court judge in the case found that Republicans had not proved that even a single illegal vote had been cast for Gregoire. From the judge’s oral decision:
The Court concludes, by clear and convincing evidence, that Mr. [Dino] Rossi received four votes cast illegally by felons and that Ms. [Ruth] Bennett received one vote cast by a felon. There is no evidence, however, in this record that Ms. Gregoire received any illegal votes. Indeed, there has been no evidence produced that Ms. Gregoire received any of the 2,820 votes claimed by petitioners in their closing argument.

Hannity echoed a questionable Republican claim that “925 felons in prison” in Florida “voted illegally.”
The November 1 edition of The New York Times also reported this Republican accusation without making any apparent effort to verify it. But the St. Petersburg Times reported on October 29 that the claim was based on “two controversial and flawed state databases” that had been rejected by the state’s Republican secretary of state, Glenda Hood. In addition, the St. Petersburg Times noted that a preliminary investigation by its reporters “quickly found” two people on the list who were, in fact, eligible to vote.
