Latino vote could save Harry Reid and other Democrats

In mid-term elections that will be decided on the basis of turn-out — which candidate does the better job of getting his/her voters to the polls — some influential Spanish-language media outlets, including Univision, have launched last minute campaigns to get Spanish-speaking voters to go to the polls and cast their ballots. From The WSJ:

Days before the midterm elections, Spanish-language media have unveiled a get-out-the-vote blitz to energize Hispanic voters, whose turnout could be decisive in many races. . .

“There are 12 million Hispanic registered voters…If we all vote on Nov. 2, we will make a decisive impact,” says one spot featuring Judge Cristina Pereyra, star of the network’s court show, “Veredicto Final” (Final Verdict).

“We are going to be banging the drum of ‘You have to go vote, you have to go vote,’” said Ramon Escobar, Telemundo’s executive vice president of network news, in an interview.

Although Latinos are projected to make up less than 10% of the nation’s voters in November and are less likely to cast a ballot than the rest of the electorate, their participation could be decisive in states like Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas, which have large Hispanic populations and competitive races.

That initiative could make a difference in tight races across the country, such as the contest between tea partier Sharron Angle and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Democrat has cast his lot with Nevada’s Latino voters, supporting comprehensive immigration reform, while Angle has run vicious ads casting Latinos as criminals. (See video below).

Angle’s ads and similar campaign invective have helped to create a climate in which nearly two-thirds of Latinos in the United States think they are being discriminated against, according to a poll by the Pew Hispanic Center.

There is every reason for Latinos to turn out heavily on Tuesday.

I see the AJC is doing its usual advocacy for the Democrats. This article and the one on the front page of the online version saying that Georgia man enact an Arizona style immigration law. That speculation has been ongoing for months, so the AJC picks Fri before the election to REVISIT that issue.

You guys should drop the Constitution from your title and be the Atlanta Journal Democrat (AJD).

I saw a study yesterday that said Hispanics are mixed in their support/opposition to illegal immigration. I think their vote is not as monolithic as the Dems wish, or as other minority groups are. There are some excellent hispanic candidates available to vote for, i.e. Marco Rubio.

“There are already hundreds of complaints representing thousands of instances. ”

Complaints made to who…Fox News. Noticed how people are taking their complaints Fox News instead of the local staff at their polling location.

Republicans yell voter fraud as an excuse for intimidation and voter suppression. In the Illinois U.S. Senate race, for instance, Kirk can be heard on a taped conference call saying where his “voter integrity program” would be sent, and it was largely African-American neighborhoods. Why African-American neighborhoods?

There are many Latinos that I know that would rather move to Mexico than cast a vote for a democrat. Who says most latinos favor the quazi-socialist policies of this democratic administration? They, just like the rest of us, work hard for their money and they don’t want it going to entitlement programs where it pays for fat sloths to sit on their duffs all day popping out welfare babies with no daddy around. Spread the wealth around? Not happening here honey.

Recheck the stellar performance of the Reagan and Bush administrations during their first 2 years. Obama is going gangbusters compared to them. What we need is sustainable job growth. With private sector jobs up slightly and government jobs down, the trend is in the right direction.

I do not support voter fraud, even if it means liberals loosing seats. Do you support voter intimidation and suppression?

All I asked is for you to look at the facts of how “massive” a problem voter fraud really is…not allegations. We both know anyone can make allegations…that doesn’t mean it’s true. The cases must be investigated and as I pointed out, there were 100 convictions in 6 years all during the Bush administration. Do you think 100 convictions in 6 years under a Republican president who went after voter fraud would constitute it being a “massive” problem?

Peadawg, your childlike logic amuses me. xenophobia is not “made up”. it is very real. it’s not a condition or disease. were I to define it, I’d say it is an emotion or feeling (irrational and baseless, but a feeling nonetheless). in many ways it is like religious dogma or ideology (as if the two are actually “separated” – just ask Christine O’Connell, she’ll tell you). the real “condition” of concern is the fact (not idea, or belief, but FACT) that shallow, superstitious Americans respond to xenophobic political ads.

Voter fraud is a tool used by the secular progressive liberals. You can only use it so many times for the “me too” crowd joins in. Of course we will not be informed from here the truth about about voter fraud from the liberal organizations. The conservatives must keep an eye out for more fraud by the progressive left. Was it 325 votes that got that liberal commedian into congress. Now the liberals can not get the ballots out to the military. We can send machines to far away planets but we cannot get a ballot to our warriors. Liberals can not lead and do not know how to follow.

Much more than our own justice department. The Black Panther that tried to intimidate voters in Philly should be in jail. wouldn’t you agree?

the union thugs that are offering free rides to the polls but insist on seeing who everyone voted for should be arrested and their activities exposed.

The SEIU is controlling many voter machines in many states. Voter fraud may be enough to alter the election. The SCIU are thugs and criminals, like most union admin.

Reagan built Japan’s economy and Bush China’s. That’s where the jobs are. The economy always does better under a Democrat and will do so again, despite the refusal of the GOP minions to participate. We’d still be in a recession if they had their way, but that’s what they wanted so they could blame it on Obo. Many of the unemployed are earning money under the table and others have started their own businesses. There are plenty of jobs for those willing to do them, just not what they might prefer.

CMT, see: above. please provide us with data or statistics to quantify the number or percentage of ruthless “Mexican Drug Cartel” members included in the 10-20 million “illegal” immigrants. AND, I suspect there are also “cartel” members who are here legally (citizens). how should we handle these criminals? violence as it relates to any criminal enterprise is not a “Latino” thing.

Be strong. Admit what you have done. You did it before in 1992. When fascists get complete control, it is a race to damage our economy enough before they are thrown out yet again.

The question is: why do you keep voting them into office. Can’t you see what they do . . . every time?

How many times are you going to allow them to fool you?

“Fool me once” I understand, but fool you every time the polls open?

You forgot to say “illegal Latino” vote, the 9th circuit court has ruled that it is illegal to even ask for ID when registering to vote. WOW can’t wait till I get pulled over and tell a cop that is an “undue burden” to show any ID, I wonder how that will end for me. This is proof that the far left is purposely using judicial activist to further their far left agenda. I would like to know why Americans need to show ID but they don’t?

As reported by Reuters and The Associated Press, the panel of the 9th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals found that a portion of the Arizona law, which required residents to provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote, is inconsistent with the National Voter Registration Act, which, according to the AP, “allows voters to fill out a mail-in voter registration card and swear they are citizens under penalty of perjury, but doesn’t require them to show proof as Arizona’s law does.” In addition, as the AP reported, “The ruling left in place a requirement that voters provide proof of identity when casting ballots.”

Taken from article in USA Today, today:

Hispanics are growing more divided about how they view illegal immigration, and native-born Hispanics aren’t as convinced of the contributions of illegal immigrants as they used to be, according to a study released Thursday.
Hispanics are split when asked to assess the effect of illegal immigration on Hispanics living in the United States: 29% say it has had a positive impact, 31% negative and 30% believe it made no difference, according to the study by the non-partisan Pew Hispanic Center. That is a sharp decline from a 2007 survey, when 50% of Hispanics said illegal immigrants were having a positive impact.
