Latino vote could save Harry Reid and other Democrats

In mid-term elections that will be decided on the basis of turn-out — which candidate does the better job of getting his/her voters to the polls — some influential Spanish-language media outlets, including Univision, have launched last minute campaigns to get Spanish-speaking voters to go to the polls and cast their ballots. From The WSJ:

Days before the midterm elections, Spanish-language media have unveiled a get-out-the-vote blitz to energize Hispanic voters, whose turnout could be decisive in many races. . .

“There are 12 million Hispanic registered voters…If we all vote on Nov. 2, we will make a decisive impact,” says one spot featuring Judge Cristina Pereyra, star of the network’s court show, “Veredicto Final” (Final Verdict).

“We are going to be banging the drum of ‘You have to go vote, you have to go vote,’” said Ramon Escobar, Telemundo’s executive vice president of network news, in an interview.

Although Latinos are projected to make up less than 10% of the nation’s voters in November and are less likely to cast a ballot than the rest of the electorate, their participation could be decisive in states like Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas, which have large Hispanic populations and competitive races.

That initiative could make a difference in tight races across the country, such as the contest between tea partier Sharron Angle and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Democrat has cast his lot with Nevada’s Latino voters, supporting comprehensive immigration reform, while Angle has run vicious ads casting Latinos as criminals. (See video below).

Angle’s ads and similar campaign invective have helped to create a climate in which nearly two-thirds of Latinos in the United States think they are being discriminated against, according to a poll by the Pew Hispanic Center.

There is every reason for Latinos to turn out heavily on Tuesday.

So they will be supporting the Democrats.

President Obama has increased border security, patrols, funding and deportations over the previous Republican administration.

@Peadawg,

“Why would you ask such a dumb question? I was talking about the ones that are here illegally”

Are you including those born here to illegal parents when talking about those that are here illegally?

We all agree that Hispanic voters in Florida need to turn out in force to vote Tuesday, and in every other state to vote on Wednesday.

yes.. they might.. i wonder how many of those votes will be legitimate? i see where there are looking at the seiu in nevada.. but that explains a lot.. take one of the worst of the worst.. and be proud ctucker…

“Labor law broken during SEIU election, report says
Preliminary probe finds union misused funds, roster”

“Did you know that the SEIU represents the voting machine technicians in Clark County (Las Vegas), Nevada? Is it any surprise, as we noted earlier today, that there was a voting glitch in Clark County, Nevada? The glitch caused Harry Reid’s name to be automatically checked on the ballot before voters had indicated who were they were supporting.”

funny thing about dems.. they screamed about florida and sent thousands of attorneys down there.. didnt come up with one thing.. however daily.. we find that dems try to cheat the election process every chance they get.. but thats a non story i guess..

Keep up the good fight!

Fear the election! Discourage the vote! Threaten minorities! The convicted election fraudsters and dirty tricks have come from the Republicans….like Rove.

Funny thing about Republicans….they love to discourage legal voting and claim fraud when they are up to dirty tricks.

I can see how you would think a fair constitutional challenge to the law might seem like a contradiction.

But before we put loads of money into the private prison corporations
that wrote and will benefit greatly from the law, we should make sure it is a legal law.

I can see how that might be tough to get.

So great, Harry Reid the Democratic Party leader in the U.S. Senate has to rely on votes from foreigners, illegal aliens, or people who “slipped in” from one of the most corrupt and ill run countries in the world(MEXICO).
That is an outright DISGRACE! And foolish bigots like Cynthia Tucker have no problem with this and actually support it. Great.

@Union

“The glitch caused Harry Reid’s name to be automatically checked on the ballot before voters had indicated who were they were supporting.”

Did you notice how this so called problem was not reported to election board officers. Someone went to the local Fox station to report this problem. It was investigated and proved to be false report.

“Controversy arose after Boulder City resident Joyce Ferrara complained to FOX5 that when she went to vote for GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle, Reid’s name was already checked.

“Something’s not right,” Ferrara said. She claimed her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said those claims were “patently false” and said at no time did any of those voters report the incident to staff at their polling location.

“In fact, although over 160,000 people have voted early in Clark County, those allegations that have been made have gone directly to the media as opposed to election board officers,” he said.

Lomax advised voters to be aware that touch-screens on the screens are sensitive. For that reason, a person may not want to have their fingers linger too long on the screen after they make a selection at any time.

“Especially in a community with elderly citizens (they have) difficulty in (casting their) ballot,” Lomax said. “Team leaders said there were complaints (and the) race filled in.”

At any time, voters can go back on the screen and review their selections. They are also allowed to make changes and encouraged to double-check their ballot on screen and on paper before it is cast.”

Keep up the good fight!

Oh by the way “foreigners, illegal aliens or people who ’slipped in’..from Mexico” dont vote. US Citizens do. But go ahead…prove any one of the people you claim Reid “relies” on has voted….prove it.

Voter fraud will be the only way Reid will escape the dumpster and evidently that may be in play. In Florida Crist is done to a crisp, so you can stick a knife in him. California will probably go the way California has typically gone, however, the closeness of the races may be a harbinger of a changing political climate. Keep hoping Cynthia even though the Dem’s losses on Tuesday won’t change.

From MSNBC: Democrat Kendrick Meek told NBC’s TODAY show that he had discussions about the race in Florida with Clinton during the former president’s visits to the state to campaign on his behalf. But he denied that Clinton asked him to step down. “I never once told him that I was getting out and he never once asked me to get out.”
A number of media on Thursday, including Politico and CNN, reported Clinton had tried to persuade Meek to drop out of the race to prevent a win by the contest’s frontrunner, Republican Marco Rubio. “The argument was: ‘You can be a hero here. You can stop him, you can change this race in one swoop,’” a Democrat familiar with the conversations told Politico.
According to the Politico report, Meek agreed, and planned to endorse Crist, but then failed to go ahead with the withdrawal. Politico cited Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna. Meek denied there was any plan for him to drop out. He also rejected poll numbers showing him getting only about 15 percent of the vote in next Tuesday’s election.
Crist’s campaign, for its part, said in a statement: “While this story is accurate, the Governor’s focus is on uniting common-sense Democrats, independents, and Republicans behind his campaign because he is the one candidate who can defeat Tea Party extremist Marco Rubio and deliver bipartisan results for Florida in Washington.” The governor also confirmed to MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann that the discussions did occur, saying he had “numerous phone calls” with people close to President Clinton.
You all think that the Hispanics will just vote for Harry Reid and other? They do have minds and they for the most part are more conservative than liberal…. They do not have a handout mentality…

Peadawg, Del and others

Please check facts. Fox News and Republicans talk about “massive voter fraud” every election cycle for the past several years. There were just 100 convictions for voter fraud between 2002 and 2008, even after a massive push for convictions during the Bush administration.

100 convictions in 8 years out of how many votes cast in these 8 years? I would see how you think it’s such a massive problem.
