Long’s accuser sounds like a real Christian

I’ve never met this young man — Spencer LeGrande. He’s one of the four who have accused New Birth Missionary Baptist Church pastor Eddie Long of sexual misconduct.
But I listened to the comments that LaGrande made to WSB TV yesterday, and compared them to the statements I’ve heard from Long. LaGrande sounds more credible, more honorable and, quite frankly, more Christian than Bishop.

I agree with you on the Bishop Long scandal. He is not acting like a man that is innocent.

Eddie Long & Lucifer’s PRIDE

“We’re not just a church, we’re an international corporation. We’re not just a bumbling bunch of preachers who can’t talk and all we’re doing is baptizing babies. I DEAL with the White House. I DEAL with Tony Blair. I DEAL with presidents around this world. I PASTOR a multimillion-dollar congregation. You’ve got to put me on a different scale than the little black preacher sitting over there that’s supposed to be just getting by because the people are suffering.”
–Bishop Eddie Long, New Birth Missionary Church, August 2005.

NOW READ THE WORDS OF LUCIFER;

Isaiah 14:12-15: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I WILL ascend into heaven, I WILL exalt my throne above the stars of God I WILL : sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I WILL ascend above the heights of the clouds;I WILL be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”

Pride comes before destruction. The words of Eddie Long and Lucifer; “I”…, “I”…, “I”… are of PRIDE

Keep up the good fight!

On this one I have to agree that this witness sounds very credible at this time and not easily dismissed as a “hater” or similar term. Whether there is truth in any of the allegations remains to be determined. Sounding “credible” is not a reliable method on its own to determine guilt or innocence.

Very, very sad.

I watched Eddie Long speak at two Promise Keepers events. An amazing and gifted speaker with a tremendous stage presence. However, when he resisted turning over church financial records to the IRS, I felt things were not quite right.

Just plain sad. As Lord Acton said, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”

CT, I have been a fan of Monica Kaufman’s for almost 30 years. The 10 years I was gone to Florida make me appreciate her even more….but if you personally know her, BEG her to get a style consultant…when I left in 2000, she was style, style, style….now she looks like she’s wearing my grandma’s bathroom mat….please get this woman some help. Sorry, know this is off topic, but it really bothers me for her…..

Pullett Surprise, you should make sure your facts are straight before you try to bash this man. The IRS never requested financial records from Eddie Long or New Birth, it was Senator Grassley’s senate committee. If the IRS had requested records, he would have been required by law to comply. However, Senator Grassley is not entitled to recieve the financial records of any church which is why he didn’t get them.

To all those pronoucing sentence on this man so far, you would be wise to wait for all the information to come out. Jesus himself was lied on and persecuted and said those who preach the Gospel in his name would suffering the same thing. I’m not saying Bishop Long is guilty or innocent but we would be wise to wait and see what happens. After all, it was on the basis of false witnesses, and lies that Jesus himself was sent to the cross even though there was no evidence. But I guess if people did it to him, obviously you all do mind doing it to today’s preacher.

Way to be an objective journalist Ms. Tucker considering you yourself admitted that you never much cared for Bishop Long, should we have expected you to reach any other conclusion of this man sounding more Christian than the Bishop.

These young men clearly have not lived under a rock, being the world travelers that they are. Groomed for abuse or not, I’m not ready to call any of them christian like. On one had Bishop Long may lose the case just by his arrogance disguised as “blessed and highly favored.” On there other hand, the accusers will need M. Night Shyamalan to write their opening and closing arguments. Last time I check baptist was not a religion where the pastor could have a wife and a harem (although that is the case in many churches). At some point they had to recognize the LIES (living in error and sin)

Aqua Girl, I never said Eddie Long was Jesus but the Bible does say that those who preach the Gospel (Eddie Long preaches the Gospel just like other Preachers)will also be persecuted in the same manner.

“Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.” John 15:20

Never said Long was Jesus but he is a servant of God. Taking this scripture into account you must open your eyes to the possibility that he is being persecuted. Again, I’m not saying he’s innocent or guilty but we would all by wise to stop rushing to conclusions and wait to see what happens.

I will start with the caveat that I have not yet clicked the video and I DID watch Long on the news Sunday morning:

I don’t like Bishop Long. I never have. However, from the first that this story broke, I was skeptical. It just doesn’t pass the smell test.

If he’s gay, (or bi-sexual) Bishop Long didn’t just discover that, he will have always been that way. Given his persona, wealth, and position to have done this for almost 2 decades, there would be more people coming forward. There would be an under age boy (or boys) RIGHT NOW being abused. Where is that boy or boys? Where are the previous boys? Sexual predators who engage in what Bishop Long is accused of are uncanny in their ability to seek out those who are exploitable. Pedophiles don’t stop. They can’t. Science has proven this. It’s not something that can be “cured.” If he did it to these 4 men, he did it to others in the past and is doing it to young boy right now. Again, where are those people? It’s a civil case. If he is currently molesting young men, it would be a criminal case. There is no criminal case.

It just doesn’t add up to me.

It would be such a transitional story if we allow all those men and women in this world who lived a homosexual life, for however long they lived it, or tried gay sex, tell us why they left that lifestyle and accepted their own man or womanhood. Where is this story? Where are these people?

It is so pathetic for the media, social activists, and pastors to make the conclusion for us that once you go gay or try it that you are categorically classified as a homosexual. I disagree with that notion wholeheartedly. There are so many people that left that lifestyle and have made the decision never to return to it just like any other negative human condition (sin).

We are constantly making exceptions for gays, advocating for them, speaking up for them, and passing legislation for them but totally ignoring those folk that said they’ve been there, done it, tried it, but left it.

The last thing I want to say is there is this belief now that those people that harp against homosexuality the loudest secretly harbor gay tendencies. That is a total farce! Just because Bishop Long and some of the other world renown preachers got caught doesn’t mean anything about someone’s stance against homosexuality. For all Christians that believe the Bible, Bishop Long’s message is biblically based. There is nothing wrong with his message. You may decide to dislike him but before these allegations came out you believed his message, so don’t stop believing it now.

We need people that are gay to have a conversation with those people that were once gay. That’s the only conversation we need to have.

What truly amazes me is that accuse a popular minister and his defenders urge no rush to judgment but accuse a group like ACORN with a heavily edited tape, accuse a black congressperson…and the rush to judgment begins and those who say hold on a minute, oh they must have a racial bias.

As for Truthhurts post…its hurting for the truth. First, you dont speak for me so dont post “we all know” for your wild assertions. Second, you might want to try comprehending the blog….there is not a single statement that the “story” is true or phony. It says he is credible and his statement reflects a demeanor that is generally associated with being a Christian rather than claims that the “devil is after me.”

22Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Let’s say for the sake of argument the allegations aren’t true. Why send photos of yourself in spandex to young men. Why take them on trips and why, why have you not declared that you are innocent instead of saying I’m not a perfect man. Guess what Sherlock, non of us are perfect emn but as believers we should avoid compromising situations. I won’t speak to the Bishop Long controversy since I’m not following it, but I must say you comment regarding his accuser seeming to be a “better Christian” strikes me a bit odd. I wasn’t aware there was a ranking system in Christianity, other than the last be first and so forth.

It’s fine if you want to use religion as a tool to make you feel better, a sense of belonging, or stengthening your spiritual self, thats how humans began using religion, as a survivial tool, dating back to cavemen who worshipped the ‘rain god’ , ect, but for us modern day non-believers,the quotes from your 2000+ year old book that has been translated hundreds of times over the centuries really don’t amount to a hill of beans.
