Obama squandered his Oval Office moment

Obama could have called for a “moon shot” tonight to make a transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy, and he failed to do that. He made his first-ever speech in the Oval Office, and he had all three networks at the 8 p.m. slot, and he didn’t make good use of it.

The speech was flat and uninspiring. He recited a litany of the things the administration has done to try to bring the spill under control, but it was a rehash of things the public has already heard. Yes, he’s going to make BP pay. That’s good — as far as it goes. But he didn’t use the moment to assert a resolute sense of command.

Nor did he use it to call on Americans to make the sacrifices that will be necessary to make the transition from petroleum to cleaner fuels. Yes, he said a little about it. But he didn’t even endorse the energy bill currently languishing in the Senate.

The president has wasted a crisis.

ESIS describes the goal of its services as “reducing our client’s loss dollar pay-outs.” The New Orleans-based organization Advocates for Environmental Human Rights says the hiring of ESIS indicates that “BP’s goal is to minimize the amount of money it pays to claimants.”. Well, of course–it is after all trying to be a profit making company. Nothing wrong with that. Well, maybe there is under The Obamanation Plan

Good luck to the end of your loser agenda this fall.

Again—bring it sport. However, the money ain’t there.

Washington (CNN) - An internal Republican National Committee document obtained by CNN paints a damning picture of the committee’s financial standing compared to the past five election cycles.

The document, pulled together during a recent review sparked by concerns over RNC spending practices, said the committee had $12.5 million in cash on hand at the end of April.

By comparison, the average cash on hand at the end of April from 2002-2009 was $40.4 million. And that average includes the odd numbered years when there are fewer election contests.

Looking only at even-numbered years, this year’s $12.5 million end of April COH is less than one-third the amount the RNC had on hand on April 30 for the 2002 ($47 million) and the 2006 ($44.6 million) midterms.

Dammit Mr President, LEAD.
Stop blaming BP, right now. There will be plenty of time to “kick their ass” later.
100% of all of your/our time is to stop this leak & clean up what has already leaked.
Geez, fackin wake up!!!!!!!!

He’s probably aware of the Oil Pollution Act
(snipped)
According to the OPA of 1990, any third party interference, such as the gov’t, with the responsible party’s (BP) efforts can absolve the responsible party of liabilities. There are exceptions to this absolvement of liability, and the administration should be exploring these. There are also exceptions to any cap on liabilities concerning the resposible party which BP seems to have breached, such as gross negligience, willfull misconduct, and failure to abide by safety or operating regulations.

However, the gov’t must tread carefully, lest they act in a manner which a future court may find removes BP for liabilities from the time of such gov’t interference forward.

The President wasted a crisis? What? The people of the Gulf appreciate your sympathy, you heartless wench. No surprise in Emperor Obama using the speech to dodge the topic of fixing the spill but rather pimping the crisis to push legislation. You can’t legislate Green Energy you bafoon!

Cynthia, you hit the nail on the head. I voted for Obama, and was overjoyed when he won. However with some of his appointments to crucial posts, and his backing of Blanche Lincoln I am slowly moving from his corner. The pitifual display he put on tonight only added to my second thoughts concerning who he is following because he sure isn’t leading. In my opinion he is nothing more than Bush light…..To bad, he had a real chance to change this country for the better, but instead opted to be just another corporate lackey.

Obama is still not leading. He is approaching this problem like a regulating lawyer, not the leader of the free world. No wonder no one feels better. I would be so much more comfortable if he would take charge. He was flat and seemed out of of his depth.

Cynthia, what did you expect from a man who goes on what is supposed to be a serious trip to discuss and resolve a major issue and decides to stop for a lemon snowcone? While we all understand the President has to eat — stopping for a childish freeze snack during a time of a crisis really telegraphs to the American people “I really don’t take this too seriously.” Can you imagine Rudy stopping after being notified of the planes crashing into the towers on 9/11 and having a hot dog from a street vendor? And Bush was heavily criticized for flying over NO after Katrina; yet Barry goes to the Gulf during this major disaster and all he can think about is his stomach (a little fried shrimp here, crawfish there, gotta have some crabcakes, and don’t forget that lemon snowcone).

Maybe he should defer to Bobby Jindal or anyone else who knows how to lead instead of just playing politics. What is Obama doing? Focus grouping for the proper reaction? Waiting on approval from his union handlers/owners? Checking with Soros? Watching this “process” work and waiting for Obama’s leadership is like reading a Where’s Waldo book? You can’t manufacture cojones: you either have ‘em or you don’t. Are we waiting for Obama’s to drop?

Remember in November!

Obama wasted our time and attempted to inadvertently promote the Cap & Trade bill which will MOST DEFINITELY have a VERY SIGNIFICANT & LONG TERM NEGATIVE effect on America.

I have consistently asked my friends (the ones who initially bragged openly that they voted for Obama) if they regret the fact that they voted for Obama…………several are honest and admit they regret voting for him, but some still claim they do not completely regret the fact that they voted for the worst American President in the history of America!!

Americans need to wake up (ignore everything the mainstream media states) and do some serious research prior to voting for ANY politician in the future.

So by your own logic Cynthia, you must be proud of George W. for capitalizing on the crisis that was 9-11. Let see, you liberals really love the results of that crisis…Patriot Act, invasion of Afghanistan/Iraq, Fall of Saddam, Gitmo. I guess you can say that he didn’t let that crisis go to waste. Quit trying to justify this baffoon of a president by emulating his chief of staff. Have some goddamn decency and think of the families who will be struggling to make a living due to the crisis that you view as some sort of twisted political opportunity.

OMG, is it not clear he has no answers to our issues. People pay attention. He takes 5 trips per week on Air Force One and host 3 parties per week at the White House or takes the First Lady on a “date” twice per week. He is using use for his pleasure. He has no idea how to lead. We can drill for oil or pay the middle east for oil. The facts are clear he prefers the middle east to hold us ransom. We need to explore new sources of energy but it not going to happen over night. We need a balanced plan. He gives us nothing. Tell me on Sept. 12 2001 Barack Obama or George W Bush as President? Easy a man with conviction and leadership. Gore or Obama we would be teaching Arabic in our schools.

Obama, as ever, doesn’t understand his job. As Chief Executive, its his job to pull together some sort of plan to solve this and then DO IT. But Obama has never DONE anything in his life. He’s an organizer, an agitator… and as such, he calls out problems, not solutions.
