Pat Robertson harms image of Christians

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called the staggering destruction in Haiti “Biblical.” Pat Robertson saw the catastrophe in Old Testament terms, too, but he had a different take, blaming the epic tragedy on a “pact with the devil” by Haitians in the 1700s.

Robertson should retire from public life. Can’t any of his friends on the Christian right prevail upon him to give the 700 Club to a younger and saner host? Robertson’s foolish utterances do immense harm to the image of Christianity — especially among those who didn’t grow up going to a Christian church every Sunday, as I did. Those not familiar with the vast range of Christian beliefs think Robertson represents all Christians — and that’s just not so!

If the New Testament is any guide, Christians are supposed to be non-judgemental and compassionate. Robertson is anything but. He’s also a dunce. The legend about a “pact with the devil” is myth, not fact. How insensitive it is to associate a people’s yearning to throw off the yoke of oppression with a pact with the devil?

Whatsoever things are pure and lovely, think upon those things. No one is all good or all bad. We have to learn to see what’s good in others and allow the grace of God to cover the bad. I think what Pat Robertson was saying is that there are principles in the Bible that God clearly defines as His will, and if we violate those principles we can expect to reap a harvest of destruction. Our battle is not against flesh and blood, it is a spiritual battle against satanic forces. As has been stated, voodoo is rampant in Haiti – a satanic practice is rampant in Haiti. What good can come of that?

Pat Robertson must think he is God to decide who should be punished for their sins on earth. I thought all people could receive forgiveness and mercy because God is a loving God. I now remember the reason I left the Pentecostal faith when I was very young. If this represents real Christianity, then many people will be driven far far away from it!!

Pat has really outdone himself this time. He must have a different God than the rest of us. Oh well, this email won’t do any good…they will trot him around for years as ignorant people still buy his books and send money. He forgets God’s commandments and yes he will answer some day for what he said. ps I read it all…no ducking what he meant. Send him to Haiti for the relief effort!

Pat Robertson, I wonder how others would judge you if you were caught in a natural disaster. It just so happens that the Earth is always changing and there are many hot spots or rings of fire, and faults in the Earth. There will always be earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in various places on earth. It is called nature and has nothing to do with sin!!!!

Are we helping CT prolong her career?

“The Truth is my shepard and I will not be in need. I walk thru the valley in the shadow of socialism. I fear no liberal for my absolute Truth is with me. My Truth and constitution comfort me. I lay down with no liberal for fear of abortion. The Truth prepares a table before me in the presence of progressive liberals and atheists. My head is annoited with altruism and my life is filled with Truth. Surely goodness and love will follow conservatives and they will dwell in the House of Truth forever.” Just thinking!

Full of hate and loathing is what you are, not so different from Osama Bin Laden and other fanatic religious people who distort religion in favor of hate! People are of no importance, right, only your blind ideology that promotes more and more hate for all mankind except those who you narrowly believe are “saved” and will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Maybe you and Osama Bin Laden will hang out in heaven together.

Hummmmm ……….. now, I know some of you will tout allegroy, parable, fiction, fairy tale or whatever, but I wonder what you libs. will think about this if you’re still around and it “really does” happen:

Revelation 19:

“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to STRIKE DOWN THE NATIONS (emphasis added). He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

This O.T. verse is believed by many Bible scholars to refer to yet future prophetic events ……….. Hummmmmmm :

Ezekiel 38:

‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel? At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign LORD. In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great EARTHQUAKE (emphasis added) in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”

Matthew 24:

“As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,[a]‘ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and EARTHQUAKES in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 1At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 1and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 1Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 1but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 1And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

Wow!!! Buildings’ falling on babies and military dogs locating dead loved ones is a blessing in disguise. The massive death, lost of shelter, lost of self is reminiscent of a blessing!!!! The exodus of an entire country is a blessing to you-PAT. Revival under the Biblical context is a blessing and your reprehensible statement is appalling and nefarious. PAT, you are the reason that there is a massive influx of people turning away from God. Your comment is bursting with the bile that occurred during the Slave Trade and continues to fester in the marrow of the human body. Your Christian ideology stretches and explodes as millions of people are devastated and grieve for the loss of life!!! I am ashamed at this very moment for every believer, and ashamed that your stinking thinking is embedded and rooted in hatred. Christians must always remember that life and death is in the power of the tongue. So, shut your mouth PAT, open your bible, fall on bended needs and worry about where your soul shall rest in the afterlife. May God help you, and person’s who contribute to your initial immoral thoughts!!! I am proud of my country, America, and proud of every country that is lending a helping hand- MAY GOD BLESS YOU!!!

The Book of Mormon is NOT a holy book of God. It is
an addendum to the Bible, written by a man, accounting the lives of Joseph Smith & Brigham Young. The Bible does NOT need addendums. It is written that anyone who adds to or takes away from
the Word of God will be thrown into the Lake of Fire.

Principles of opposites are in effect in natural phenomena in external nature and in all of human endeavors. The most prevalent one being Good vs Evil. Positive vs Negative. Pat Robertson practice the negative moral vitures, non-compassionate, cold hearted, calculating, non-communal and anti social. He’s greedy, selfish, vain, conceited and narcissistic. Zionists, Christians and Islamics play the blame game. They scape goat and blame others, usually the victims for the mistakes, sin and violence they perpetrate. If you ignore what Zionists, Christians and Islamics say and simply watch what they do. You will discover that nearly all of them conjure up EVIL in the world. Moral evil conjures up natural evil. Compassion, love and caring conjures up moral GOOD. The scales of justice are out of balance. The world must re-establish equilibrium. Balance muist be maintained. Therefore i purpose that WE the People must prohibit the practice of Zionism, Christianity and Islam in America. by doing so, we could eliminate 80 % of all the violences on the planet. Secularism is the path to righteousness.

I know God is a loving God, and a forgiving God, God would not punish children. People tend to forget about plate tectonics, earthquakes and natural disasters strike anywhere. For someone to say that a country is opressed from a pact with the devil is crazy. Was it right for the english to come and kill and rape indians. The US soil was gone by stealing, so if haiti is being punished from something hundreds of years ago, i hate to see what will happen to the US. We are not to judge, I believe God loves us millions of times more than we can love anyone, I feel he would want us to draw together and help our fellow brother and sister in haiti. Revelations speeks of many disasters, there will be more to come, but there is no blame. This is not a perfect world, you cant be of wordly things such as sin and serve God..Its not healthy to put words in the mouth of the most high..lets just all get together and get haiti where they need to be. My prayers are with them. Sometimes people dont open there eyes until there eyes burn..Why does it take a mega disaster for people to grow a heart…i dont understand this world and dont plan to, because i know our days are numbered as the hairs on our head. nomatter what pain we go through here cant compare to hell. We must love our brother an sister while we are here. Animals help each other why cant we.

and one more thing, true believers in Jesus dont worry about there image to other men, we care about what God thinks, so one man just because they have a tv show means nothing, our salvation in the blood of christ is individual, your relationship with God is personal. alot of people in the world do serve the darkside, but you can have the holy spirit in your own home, but think about this, God did not program our brain like a robot and there are limitations to what we can understand. things will take there course and we cant stop it, if you not saved get there, we are in the end time. and if everyone in the world would give ten percent of what they had whether it be 5, 10, 100, 100, 100,000,000 and so on, then it would be enough to rebuild the country in 6 months, all the singers, actors, pro sports. people arent given all of that to be greedy, bill gates alone could rebuild haiti, bet says they have raised one million dollars, they need like 5 billion. most people make it off of minimum wage, are people scared of losing 1 million dollars if they have 4 hundred million dollars, its retarted. wyclef cares what he is doing is what God has led him to do..its such an emotional time this is a good place to post your aggression, please continue to post so we can sturr up some emotion and get help to those people…if its 3 hundred million americans and everyone gave 5 dollars that would be 15 hundred million dollars it would be a start..but lets give it to wyclef or care.org or the redcross

I can’t believe that Mr. Robertson’s is so ignorant. His mind is plagued with a parasite that has left him in the dark ages where closed and clouded minds utter non-sensical callous unrealistic phrases
.
If he believes in the Power of God – then he would be speaking salvation over the lives of the people in Haiti, instead of dising them with old folktales of curses and pacts. Also, I guess, Mr. Robertson’s believes in Dracula, Superman, Batman, and the practice of voodoo. He should believe in the Power of Jesus Christ and recognize no other Power with the ability to save lives, change lives, and love our lives.

Why must people of color have to make a pact with negative spirits to be free from oppressive French rulers or any man who wants to put them into physical slavery. Read Pslam 141:1-4. Ask God to keep the doors of your lips close Mr. Robertson because what you said does not make sense.I grew up admiring the historical brothers and sisters in Haiti, who stood up and proved to the world “death or liberty” as a people they would not continue to live as slaves”. It was God’s Grace and God’s Mercy that freed my people from all over the world from a legacy and history of oppression and bondage. There is no other power by which man can be free.

Retire Robertson soon!

My comments were intended to mock your use of scripture to validate the EARTHQUAKE (emphasis ENTIRELY yours…). Yep, myself and others are just shaking in our boots because you quoted scripture – entirely out of context, I might add – but man, doesn’t it make you feel so…what’s the word – righteous?

That you would use this scripture in this way – in light of the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people – speaks far more about your lack of compassion that it does your Christian “faith.”

I’m speaking this to Christians. If you read Bible, it’s not difficult to realize that punishments including natural disasters come from wrath of God. The most evil thing in God’s eyes is that people worship false gods and are related to evil spirits.

American Christians, take the signs and be able to understand what God tries to tell us by things happen around. Being a Christian doesn’t merely mean “being kind”. As a country as America, people take blessings from God for granted. If you have ever lived in another country like China that has been refusing God and persecuting Christians for more than thousand yeas, you would understand what curse means.

There’s a spiritual world our flesh eyes can’t see and our flesh brain cannot perceive. So don’t use our personal feelings or knowledge to accept or refuse, but the words of God in Bible. Awake “Liberal” or “Cultural” Christians.

Addendum: What I posted is true for the United States as it is for Haiti.

Tony Macauley

From a biblical point of view:

Recently Christian critics, gossipers, and leaders have suggested that Haiti’s tribulations were brought about by a so called deal made with the devil, with the comment “true story” added as proof.

I’m not an historian and am unaware of it’s validity, but expanding on this absurd statement, true or false, intentionally suggests that Haiti prayed to Satan for freedom of French occupation and oppression and received it. Notice I said the word “prayed” instead of “made a deal with”. Reworded it suggests that Haiti prayed to the devil for their freedom and won it, “true story”.

This is a shameful statement for any basic bible student, let a lone a popular spiritual leader, and not merely for it’s lack of timing and compassion. This shamefully verbal expression voiced by a prominent Christian leader is embarrassing because it exposes the lack of wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God’s word from a leader who is assumed to be a biblical scholar, of sorts. Dan 2:21, God gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who know understanding. Knowing understanding means understanding God’s plan. It exposes the lack of a true biblical education in God’s complete plan and rather delves into apple tree fantasies, anytime doctrine, and the dead rising from graves.

Suggesting that Haiti prayed, or made a deal with Satan concludes that they were aware that God and Satan existed. If they were aware of God then why would they pray to God’s enemy for freedom? Satan and his seed is the enemy of God as well as the seed line of Adam.

Bible basics: Angels can not answer prayers or make deals. Satan, created by God, is an angel. Only God the Father can answer prayers, we pray in Jesus’ name as it gives us our Christian identity. Satan has no power over earth, he has no power over flesh, and whether Haiti prayed to him or not he cannot answer prayers.

In the book of John (17), Jesus says that he has the power over all flesh, he proved it during his earthly ministry and will prove it again at the moment of his second coming. Satan, however, has no such power.

Historically: In the book of Job, Satan was given permission to torment Job, and at the time was given freedom to inhabit both heaven and earth (2:1). He was given permission, and this is the only time it’s recorded of him actually using his influence to take life, but never has he been allowed to answer prayers. To suggest that Haiti won there freedom because Satan heard and answered their prayer suggests that God gave Satan permission to do so. This is ludicrous. It shows true biblical ignorance as it applies to God’s over all plan and the divine order in which he follows.

Further more, Christ has defeated Satan. His victory over death has Satan bound only to be released on earth prior to the second coming of Christ. Until then only his spirit is free to influence those willing to be persuaded. Satan’s only power, at this time is influence.

God’s word tells us that the earth, during it’s last generation, will experience among many things, earthquakes. It’s not because he causes them, it’s just the evolution of the earth and it’s own physical tribulation brought upon by age, abuse, and deterioration.

In the Bible, these catastrophic events are referred to as “birth pains” that the earth will experience prior to the second coming of Christ and the birth of the “new age”, (the eternal age). Jesus, and Paul speak about the new age to come and how the earth will be as a “woman who travaileth”, the closer the time of delivery the more extreme and frequent the contractions become. Until finally, the birth of the new age.

Given what we as Christians should understand about Satan’s role in God’s complete plan, the idea that Satan actually answered with “OK” to the request is absurd.

Who would he have answered to? To actually answer the prayer, deal, or request, would place him on earth, and in person. This is an impossibility and suggests that, post Resurrection of Christ, Satan has been given immunity and is able to roam the earth making deals and answering prayers in person, while God’s only access to us is through his Holy Spirit. According to the Bible, Satan will remain in bonds until released to tempt the world, as per God’s own choreography. But some would have us believe that he’s around to answer prayers and make deals and sealing them with “OK”!

Like most Christians, I believe that God’s ‘Holy Spirit’ is on earth just as Satan’s evil ’spirit’ is free to roam earth and influence those who would be, but only in spirit. But, believing, suggesting, and convincing others that Satan could possibly say “OK” is spiritually, chemically, and quite possibly an undiagnosed case of senility.

Although false, It suggests that this deal lead to the deplorable living conditions in Haiti. If so, then allowing the famine, the abundant disease, and the lack of infrastructure in both it’s inhabitants and it’s country is God’s fault. This alternative, blaming God because they (who ever ‘they’ is) made a deal with Satan, suggests that God forsook Haiti.

Nothing can be further from the truth. God does not interfere. Haiti’s living conditions are man-made, whether due to lack of global investment or internal corruption. It is written that God will not leave or forsake us. However, read the small print, if you forsake God then you are on your own. Once again this is not true for Haiti where over 80% of the population has confessed Catholicism,(for all the good its done them) as there religious faith.

I don’t agree with Pat or most of the post on this sight. I think this country has forgotten that we are not liberals or conservatives but Americans. Yes, I may not agree with each and every one of you but we have to respect each others point of view. I don’t care what the reason for the earthquack was or why God Allowed it. What I do care about is how we respond to it. The Lord has been known to allow something to happen to another person or people to test how we (others) respond in the crisis. What we do for the lest of these, we do also unto him. Are we all missing the point of these tradgadies. People died, children were left without parents, and thousands are homeless and without medical care. Whether they practice VODOO or any other religion we as Christians disagree with, they are still God’s children. Dems and Reps or any other political fraction has nothing to do with this. We are Christians and Americans first and we need to remember that we have a God given mission to help those less off than us. I hope one day we can come together as Americans and understand that we all maybe different and have different beliefs but our ultimate goals are similar. Its our method of getting to our destination that is different. We will get there though as long as we work together and not totally self destruct due to our differences and being closed minded.
