It’s now Obama’s war

As cliched as it is, it’s true: the most difficult decision any president must make is whether to send American men and women to war. President Obama has made his decision, according to The Washington Post; he will give Gen. Stanley McChrystal about 34,000 additional troops.

The new deployments, along with 22,000 troops he authorized early this year, would bring the total U.S. force in Afghanistan to more than 100,000, more than half of which will have been sent to the war zone by Obama.

The president also plans to ask NATO and other partners in an international coalition to contribute 5,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, officials said. The combined U.S. and NATO deployments would nearly reach the 40,000 requested last summer by U.S. Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the coalition commander in Afghanistan, as part of an intensified counterinsurgency strategy.

Dick Cheney is still popping off, inappropriately, claiming that Obama projects “weakness.” That comes from a vice-president who helped squander the nation’s prestige and resources for the sake of a lie. Cheney has zero credibility.

At the very least, I can expect Obama to look squarely at the American people (and his audience of cadets) and tell us the truth about this war.

But will that be enough? I have my doubts about the president’s decision to up the ante in Afghanistan, a benighted, impoverished and fractured nation. (It’s hardly a nation at all.) Its government is corrupt, so we don’t have a credible partner. And many experts believe that the presence of American troops so aggravates the locals that they are more likely to side with the Taliban.

I’ll be listening intently to the president’s speech tonight to see how he deals with those facts.

LOL…When a president globe-trotts, launches then pursues an apology tour then yes he project weakness. Obobo is seen as weak because he is weak. His attempts to please everyone actually please no one.

Obobo cant tell the truth about this war as he doesnt know it or doesnt want to know.

“And many experts believe that the presence of American troops so aggravates the locals that they are more likely to side with the Taliban.”

Absolutely…there is no way we could win due to the corruption of the local people. They want the Taliban then their wishes should be respected.

Pull out all troops NOW, be sure to steal all the Heroin and bring it home to the USA!!

It’s been his war since the first “adjustment.” It’s a fool’s errand. Why does every president suddenly turn into Mighty Mouse? Let’s hope he’s strong enough to see it through, like Clinton did with Serbia, since he has sentenced hundreds of more to a needless death.

Cynthia, you will never admit it, but Dick Cheney’s assessment of this president is the truth. The polls are showing that America is quickly coming to the same conclusion. The world apology tour hasn’t worked, and his assertion that talking to our enemies hasn’t helped at all. In fact, things are worse! Look at the recent developments in Iran. What improvements have we seen since becoming president? He has dithered too long to make this decision. I truly believe he was holding off so that he could study what the political outcome would be instead of just doing the right thing and sending the number of troops McChrystal requested for the surge 3 months ago. After all, he is first and foremost a politician. Bush may not have been popular with many people, but at least he stuck by his convictions and didn’t care about polls. Of course, there will always be a segment of this society that will support Obama and all of his bad decisions until the end. Remember how the voters in Washington D.C. elected Marion Barry as mayor, even after he was caught smoking crack in a cheap hotel room with a prostitute? This loyalty to him is similar, except what Obama is doing is killing America, instead of himself.

Hmmm, Cheney says Obama is weak. Was he referring to Obama’s looking out for the terrorist’s best interest (instead of the victims) in moving the 9/11 terror trial to New York? Was he referring to the very low bows in front of Middle East dictators and more recently the Japanese? Do you think he could have been thinking about how Obama jetted around the world apologizing for the previous administration? Could he have been thinking about his indeciseveness on making a decision on sending more troops, even when the surge worked in Iraq and his trusted general has recommended it? Could he have remembered how Obama talked tough about China in his campaign, yet he has done nothing to improve that situation and gets nothing from them on his trip? Could Cheney be thinking about how Obama has for months now repeatedly “warned of consequences” to Iran, but never follows through with the “consequences”. Our biggest enemy Iran surely thinks he is weak and just announced their plans to start up more nuclear plants. Israel thinks he is weak, and his approval rating is 4% over there. Bush and Cheney understood how important our relationship is with England, our strongest ally. Obmam has brushed them off, even to the point of ignoring the prime Minister at the UN summit. The hypocrisy is unbelievable. I keep hearing people talk about how brilliant he is. What has he done that has been smart for this country? Why exactly is he so smart? He wrote a couple of books? What?

Expect familiar slogans tonight like “the surge”, “over there not here”, “Hearts and minds”, “ally in the war on terror”, “self sustained, able to defend itself” and every knuckleheaded utterance that tortured our common sense for the past eight years.

There was a deal made. We get Rx reform. The Saudis get the defense contracts extended in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Cheney wins again.

He thinks he’s playing with Monopoly money
Too much Leonard Nimoy

AP sources: Four british sailors wandered into Iranian territory and are now prisoners. What is it about Iran’s borders that western hikers keep violating it? Where they Jihad Crashing? Like at the white house dinner party? The sailors weren’t invited, nor were those other guys who got caught. They do have amazing photos of themselves being tortured by the mujahadine, though.

What is going on? I’d like to go to Iran so I can heckle the “death to america” chanters. In Farci, “The jihad blows” sounds similar to “death to america”. I bet I could get a whole crowd to put the accent on the wrong syllable by using a bullhorn and a Tickle Me Elmo to project that high-pitched shrill they use to brown nose the mullahs.

Truth is not a commodity that always serves political ends; esssentially, the demand that politicians always be truthful is an invention of late ninetenth and twentieth century journalists. Politicians up until these times were not burdened by having every decision vetted in the daily opinion pages and later challenged as having been “untruthful.” Will the President be truthful tonight? If it serves the interests of the U.S. for him to be untruthful, then I hope he lies. That’s called “realpolitik.”

It’s your war too, Cynthia. When you, along with the rest of the hyper-partisan liberal pundits, talked about how important Afghanistan was. Of course, this was cynical posturing on your part and apparently you (like Obama) never considered that things might deteriorate there and more troops would be required. The victory would be in lives saved all around–maybe not Afghan lives, but who cares about them anyway–I mean really. They don’t care about their own lives, but then who would–why would anyone care to live out a life on a rock pile, not to mention the plight of the enslaved and abused women. We will never free the women in Afghanistan no matter what we do. Time to declare victory and get out.

Republicans have argued that, among the many reasons that health care reform should be rejected, legitimate polling reveals that the American public does not support health care reform. Democrats say that they do not make policy decisions from polls.

Democrats are uncertain about supporting President Obama’s decision to send more soldiers to Afghanistan and often point to polling results showing less than a majority supporting this surge. Republicans say that foreign policy should not be made based on polling results.

The truth is… Bush needed no “excuse” to go after Saddam. There was never a surrender in the first Gulf War. Iran signed a cease-fire, in which it agreed to certain conditions in order to prevent the resumption of hostilities. They had long flaunted/disregarded those conditions.

It must be difficult for the black community to admit that they have been duped into believing, that just because this clown was black, he must have all of the solutions to our problems. I can see the pride that must have been generated following his nomination that someone of color had been chosen to run for the presidency. It was too long in coming…… however, we chose to elect the wrong black man. Much of left leaning America saw an opportunity to right a wrong that had been festering for nearly 200 years but we chose the wrong guy. And we are ever so slowly coming to the realization that if America survives the next three years, it will be an economic miracle.
Whomever the American electorate puts in the White House in 2012, whether or not a “white puppet”, I hope that we are able to put America back on an economic track that will not obligate our heirs to generations of debt and economic mismanagement. Jesse, Al and that Useless Lowery could sure attest to that. Atleast Hosea Williams would call em on their antics.

The no bid contracts with Haliburton were devised and set up under the Clinton administration. It was determined by Clinton that in case of war it was best to have a company who could be up and running in a very short order. Haliburton was the only company who met all the criterion set up by the Clinton Administration. Sorry, but on this one Bush had nothing to do with it.

Dick Cheney needs to shut his piehole.

The generals asked for troops. Obama said “OK, but not until you give me an exit strategy.”

They gave him an exit strategy. He’s giving them the troops.

On this issue, I support my president 100%.

I think this issue shows that our country is FOREVER broken and it only a matter of time before we distroy our republic. We as a country will never get behind our President for anything any longer. It started with Clinton, Got worse with Bush and now is in Hyper drive with Obama. Obama had to send more troops to Afghanistan. If he didn’t, the right would have said he is weak(not like they are not already saying that). The Dems are mad because many of them hate any war but they don’t see what the President sees on a daliy basis. So tonight after the Presidents lays out his plan. Watch as Fox news dump on him for doing things that Bush should have done 5 years ago. And watch MSNBC call Obama a liar for doing what he has to do. God help us all.

Grumpy, do you support televising our exit strategy? When the president campaigned about how his administration is going to be more transparent, I don’t think taking it to this level is in our best interests. Have you noticed how he wants to be transparent when it comes to the civil trial in NYC for the 9/11 terrorists, the transparency in being an open book on our war strategy but not transparent in our domestic policies (such as the stimulus bill, the healthcare reform bill, etc.)? It’s almost as if he wants America to lose.

Obama’s War. I like that. Obama has to answer why he let OBL get away at Tora Bora in December of 2001! I’ll bet he was FOR capturing OBL B4 he was against it, the flip-flopper.

Richard Nixon, despite his obvious personal flaws, was right when he said matters of national security don’t belong on the front page of the NYTimes. He was also right when he ended Vietnam, a war Kennedy started and Johnson escalated. How bout LBJ for worst president of my lifetime? Vietnam, the destruction of the black nuclear family through welfare, the now unfunded and wretched Medicare? I’ll have to ponder on that for awhile but he may have been even worse than Reagan.

Yes, it’s his war now, but it’s been his war since the moment he took the oath of office. Those of us who support this president – and there are many, many of us – know him as an intelligent, honest, and sincere man determined to keep his campaign promises, one way or the other. And what a breath of fresh air he’s been in this regard.

Even the “great” Ronald Reagan wouldn’t do this. Remember when he promised to balance the budget by the end of his first term and do away with draft registration, to name just a couple? Without even an apology, he did neither. (We didn’t get the budget balanced until President Clinton got in!)

But President Obama is different – better than Reagan by far. And after eight very long years of Rove, Bush, and blithering Dick Cheney lying to us every step of the way, we finally have a president who gets what it’s all about – telling us the truth.

But what’s so surprising in all of this, Cynthia, is the liberal elite’s reaction to his new Afghanistan strategy. From Michael Moore to Keith what’s-his-name, they oppose it with a vengeance. They rubber stamped him in the primaries and general, certain that all the promises he was making were the correct ones for the future of our beloved country, but not anymore.

Apparently they feel that since they worked so hard to get him elected (as so many of us did), he should be dancing on their puppet string and doing what they say.

But it’s a very clear testament to this president that he’s going ahead full-on with what he knows he should be doing, no matter what they might think. (And who cares what the conservatives whiners will say. They’re going to find something wrong with anything and everything he says and does – period!)

So let’s be hopeful that we’re finally able to finish an involvement with the Afghan people that failed under Reagan, failed again under Bush, and is floundering now for a lack of enough troops and a best overall strategy to succeed.

One thing is for sure, though: Along with this massive multi-national effort to free the Afghan people, needs to go the very clear message to all of them that this is it.

If they don’t grab the reigns of self-government now while we’re still there to help, they can forget about it for a long, long time. Who else is going to show up and help rescue them from the Taliban, Al Qaeda’s influence, and overwhelming oppression when America and its allies finally leave for good? NO ONE!

So now it comes out that Our Fearless Leader is sending in 30,000 troops (less than requested, but then he IS a military expert, after all) with the loudly expressed intention of pulling them all back OUT a year later, whether they win or not! Wow! This way he gets to be both ‘tough on terrorism’ AND a peace-loving anti-interventionist! Everyone’s happy, right? Everyone except the poor b*stards wandering around in the mountains with targets on their backs and no mandate to succeed.

I’d been joking that he was taking so long with his Afghanistan Plan because it was hard to find a creative wording for ’surrender’… seems he found it at last, though it’s even crazier than I thought he could be.

Obama’s so called apology tour in which he respectfully acknowledged other members of our global community and our ally’s contribution to the US its war effort and the world in general as partners has produced 5,000 additional troops from NATO. Bush lost allies over 8 years (expect France, but in total a loss of troops). Talk is cheap and bush did a lot of it, Obama is moving forward a lot more responsibly instead of insulting every country surrounding Afghanistan. Namely Pakistan, Russia, China. We rely on them for airspace and resources.

To all the right wing idiots out there. Tonight a REAL POTUS stood tall and clearly defined. outlined and stated goals plus timelines. Now is the time for leader wannabes like Peatrus and McCrystal to shut up and get get the job done. And Cheney, be a man, sign up and get your sorry a$$ on the ground in Afganistan. President Obama did exactly what I expected. He gave the mission and the resources to the whiners and it is now time for theom TO PUT UP OR SHUT UP.

And to the right wing bozo the clowns who are addicted to open ended commitments: STRAP ‘EM UP HYPOCRITES, TIME FOR YOU TO HIT THE AFGAN GROUND RUNNING!!

Thanks for showing us what being a “tolerant” and “intellectual” liberal is all about: name calling, ad-hominem attacks, vulgarity, shouting in caps, childish misspellings and pathetic grammar.

Please keep up your rants. Then we can all learn how to be “tolerant” and “intellectual” like all liberals are. LOL

BTW: Why don’t you ask Obama why he never was “a man, sign up and get his sorry a$$ on the ground”? He sure is a fan of sending others to war when he never served. Why no criticism for him? Your hypocrisy is as laughable as your ignorant and hateful rant.

Put down the Koolade and pick up a book. Your ignorance is embarrasing to us all.

You do know where bin -Laden was on 9/11 right? You do know who refused to turn him over to us because he was a long time ally, right? Actually what am I saying. After reading your ignorant rant, it is clear that you know nothing of which you speak.

You are wise to stick to half-truths and talking points. Trying to be informed would just confuse you.

Right, and then you go into a long rant showing your hatred for Bush, even accusing him of involvement in 9/11.

Your hypocrisy is pathetic, but typical of the mindless liberals on this blog.

Only way you can sell obama is to slander and libel others. Great way to unite America== even main stream press is getting tired of reporting cheerleading of Daley machine’s DC regional office.
