Socialism...gov't creating jobs...how about Ike creating the Interstate Highway Bill which provided jobs or created supporting business's...or the gov't created Space Race, which started the age of technology which again branched into other fields and business's...the gov't provided GI-Bill, this providing the means to those who could not have gone to college without this gov't grants, but this socialized program made America stronger...and don't forget your socialized medicare, SS payments, all the while when many (not all) have pensions and health care provided for life thanks in no part to the evil Labor Unions... you self proclaimed rugged individualists, who think that you made it on your own had help all the way...let's go back to Ike's Trickle Up Economic plan and start fixing the infrastructure that our children and grandchildren travel...BTW, under Ike the wealthy paid 90% into taxes, 70% under Nixon and 53% under Ronnie and all along you were paying 33% and when Bush 41 left office the wealthy were, and are, paying 35%, while you're still falling further and further behind. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah you're all sheep

Definitions of greed on the Web:

excessive desire to acquire or possess more (especially more material wealth) than one needs or deserves

By definiton, the Democratic Party is greedy! Giving money to people whom do not deserve it by withholding money from the people who do!

This doesn't sell newspapers and that's what the AJC used to be in the business to doing. She's trying to pull an obama on us again. I suggest that old Cyth repeat the phrases until she pulls an obama on herself and actually believes what she's saying.

Obama, noun, verb: It means something along the lines of, 'to ignore anything which appears to make you likely to fail or (be) wrong, and blindly surge ahead (preferably chanting, "yes we can, yes we can")'."

I say, boycott the AJC until they fire this woman who is part of the problem that the AJC is in great decline.

I love reading the comments from the so-called informed writers screaming about government-funded healthcare, and the fact that these programs should be cancelled. Sounds great. Let's start with Medicare.

It's true that during the Reagan era the social order was turned upside down. While the poorest age group were seniors before 1980, Reagan fixed that with the more generous distributions to seniors. Taking their place were children. However, on the topic of who pays for what, consider that seniors on social security are the only ones presently who have been taxed twice on the same dollars--once when they earned those dollars and again when they received them in social security payments. Yes, the taxes phase in for those earning about $40K, but who then can live on that with Medicare B, Medicare D, copayments on health insurance etc. No, I don't think this is the greediest generation.

Well, it looks like Cynthia definitely struck a nerve with some. I would guess that 1/4 of SS recipients need the $250, 1/4 don't and the other half could use it but will give it to charity or someone more needy.

JK states:

>>Greedy? It appears Ms. Tucker has put on a little weight.
>>BTW how could someone so stupid win a Pulitzer Prize? She has cheapened the award.

I'm crediting the source unlike MISS tucker which she cuts and pastes.

Has she not heard of PhotoShop?

I agree with what a lady said about the NPR announcer, in 15 minutes or less, he managed to loose 15 years or more of members and renewing memberships. Hey, but ole' Chyth won that P.Prize and got ten grand for it, guess she can up her membership at that and the gym.

I wonder how much does she make a week, a month or in a year? Does she have health care? How much does she spend per month on her house in relationship to the percentage of her total income? How much does this ole gal eat out and who pays for it?

This is why there was something called the French Revolution where some people, like MISS tucker, became so disconnected with the general population that it lead to a revolution. MISS tucker should be fired from the AJC and barred from ever, ever working at any newpaper again unless it's working with newspapers in wrapping fish as no one would smell how bad her journalism is.

Twice this woman quotes other sources that makes up more than half of her blah, blah, blog but she doesn't credit where she got the information. Don't they ask these sort of things when handing out P.Prizes?

Unhappy that old people are getting Medicare, Cyth? Doctors are not required to take Medicare, Miss. As such, elderly cannot pick and choose where they go for treatment but has to go to only a few providers.

Why don't doctors want to take Medicare? It pays them next to nothing! Instead of complaining about the few benefits that old people get and begrudging them enough money to live on without seeking state benefit programs, why don't you---for once in your life--write an article that provides a solution to the problem and just doesn't complain about it.

All your articles are the same. We have this problem and it's caused by this group of people, blah, blah, blah. This has caused this other group to, blah, blah, blah. Why don't you offer a solution instead of being part of the problem?

Put that in your Pulitzer Prize Pipe and smoke it! Hey, what was that article that won you the ten grand, Miss. Cyth?

Today I received a letter soliciting funds from seniors to support an organization that would "prevent Congress from forcing socialized medicine on America."

Seniors already have socialized medicine (Medicare). Are they just so greedy that they don't want to share?

Better than that, the organization asking for funds was a "christian" organization. What would Jesus do? Can you hear Jesus saying, "I have good healthcare benefits but I don't want anyone else to have them."?

So much for the benevolence of christian seniors and the generation that has received more help from the government than any generation. Yes, GREEDY.
