After eight years, Americans are tired of Afghanistan

It’s been almost eight years since al-Qaida operatives struck the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, killing about 3,000 Americans. As painful as it was — and as painful as it remains for those intimately affected by the atrocity — the country has largely moved on. Given Americans’ short historical memories, eight years is a long time.

That helps explain why 51 percent of Americans, according to a new Washington Post-ABC poll, don’t believe the war in Afghanistan is worth fighting. Only 24 percent believe the number of troops should be increased.

In addition to the passage of time, there is another big factor in dwindling support for the war in Afghanistan: The invasion of Iraq. President Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney spent much more time demonizing Saddam Hussein  than they did emphasizing the role of the Taliban and Afghanistan in the attacks. The Taliban provided sanctuary to Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan and along its mountainous border with Pakistan. And it was Osama who orchestrated the attacks.

But the Bush administration gave little effort to helping Americans understand the connection between Afghanistan and the 9/11 attacks. After the invasion of Iraq, Bush and Cheney stopped talking about Osama bin Laden.

If the Bush administration had concentrated on finding Osama and driving out the Taliban, Afghanistan might be stable by now. But they allowed Osama to get away while they shifted troops to Iraq.

Osama is still out there. Al-Qaida is still plotting attacks on U.S. interests. The Taliban is still a danger to Afghanistan, Pakistan and to us. The Obama administration has no choice but to stay in Afghanistan until the Taliban is routed.

HOW WRONG can you BE MS. Tucker! Or should I say MS. OBAMA!Just like you EMBARRASSED GA and the AJC with your stupid remarks on Stephanopoulus’s show, you show it again in your editorial. America is NOT tired of Afghanistan. America is TIRED OF AFRICA! We have concerts to stop African aids, we have benefits to help Africa and what happens? Nothing! it goes to corrupt AFRICAN gov’ts. Gov’ts that chase WHITE people off their paid for land. black Gov’t s that enslave other Blacks.THAT is what America is tired of. Spending our money and not getting results. Afghanistan-People are free and have voted-they have a gov’t. An American Friendly Gov’t. Africa does not have that. The Taliban needs to be destroyed in Afghanistan or they will take over again and we will have to come back again. America sees progress. It took the US almost 50 yrs to be free from England. Would you have preferred they gave up after 10 yrs? I guess so. We have seen more progress in Afghanistan than in over 20 yrs in Africa. In Afghanistan, there is the possibility of oil payments-not in Africa-Nigeria just offers scammers. Afghanistan offers a possible mid east ally-Africa does not. So which is REALLY better Ms. Tucker? Healthcare? Why should I pay for an illegal aliens healthcare? If I break into a bank, I get sent to prison. If someone breaks into this country-they get rewarded with free unemployment and healthcare at MY expense by them using the ER as their Doc in the box. I don’t want to be on a waiting list for 3-4 months wehn I can pay for my own insurance and see my doctor within a couple of days if not right then. you wnat insurance for all-then have those that don’t have it pay the gov’t for a gov’t doc in the box. Set up a Gov’t hospital where only the people who pay the gov’t go and have docs for those people. Tax the businesses that don’t offer insurance to their employees. Don’t tax everyone! We should not reward people who fail in society to secure a good paying job. The dumbing down of America caused this. As for the mid east-obama is DEAD WRONG! if he wants peace-move the Palestinians to Iraq by the Turkish border. Let Turkey deal with those hooligans if they get out of hand. Turkey would wipe them off the map. Obama showed his TRUE Muslim colors. Come 2010 I hope ther are enough Anti Democrats to force a re call or to IMPEACH Obama for crimes against the American People, And to try Peolosi and REED too for trying to Socialize America. In 2012, Beleive me, people will remember what the Democrats and Obama have done to this country, and heck will freeze over when another democrat or black man is elected to the White House. It will be found out that Obama is a Kenyan and boy will the treason charges fly-whoo-let’s prosecute them under Sharia law then-stoning, whipping, firing squad? Oh and don’t foget Lying under oath?! To protect and defend the Constitution. Can’t wait for that day!

On what excuse would anyone rely for believing that the U.S. or any other foreign power will “rout” the Taliban in Afghanistan? Obviously, the character of the terrain and the fact that the Taliban are disbursed within the general populance will make an all out assault globally unacceptable. Does anyone remember the Russians. It was the U.S. working with the Taliban who routed the Russians. This is an unwinable, immoral war, and, ultimately, the U.S. will just leave as they did in Vietnam citing phony objectives that have been achieved. We should just leave now. NOW.
I voted for President Obama and I am glad I did. The alternative was unthinkable, but this President has been too timid to carry out his platform promises. A good man who is too timid to impose his will is of little comfort. Unfortunately, the President has been all too willing to compromise his principles under the questionable mantra of “bipartisnship.” That is why the Republicans (out numbered dispite the “Blue Dogs”) are still very much in the fight to protect the advantages of the “haves” in our nation.

Why is the US messing around in other countries affairs? We should withdraw all American soldiers from every foreign nation. It is time for them to take care of their messes.

Obama lied, people died. When do we try Obama for war crimes?
