A DeKalb County man wanted on multiple counts of armed robbery and aggravated assault was arrested Wednesday morning in Statesville, N.C., authorities said.

Dionte Cheron Rogers, 25, was taken into custody after being located at the Masters Economy Inn on Sullivan Road, police said. Rogers was in a motel room with his 15-month-old son and surrendered after talking on the telephone to authorities, who had evacuated the surrounding rooms, according to a news release from Capt. Bryan Johnson with the Statesville Police Department. The child was safe and is now being cared for by other family members.

Rogers is charged with four counts of armed robbery and five counts of aggravated assault in connection with the robbery of a DeKalb business on Jan. 11. He allegedly had an AK-47 during that incident.

Statesville police were notified by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office that Rogers was in their area Wednesday.

After his arrest, Rogers was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $50,000 bond pending extradition to Georgia.
