A DeKalb County man wanted on multiple counts of armed robbery and aggravated assault was arrested Wednesday morning in Statesville, N.C., authorities said.

Dionte Cheron Rogers, 25, was taken into custody after being located at the Masters Economy Inn on Sullivan Road, police said. Rogers was in a motel room with his 15-month-old son and surrendered after talking on the telephone to authorities, who had evacuated the surrounding rooms, according to a news release from Capt. Bryan Johnson with the Statesville Police Department. The child was safe and is now being cared for by other family members.

Rogers is charged with four counts of armed robbery and five counts of aggravated assault in connection with the robbery of a DeKalb business on Jan. 11. He allegedly had an AK-47 during that incident.

Police arrest Woodstock man hiding in Goodwill clothing bin

A 24-year-old man who allegedly stole from a Woodstock Goodwill was arrested after police found him hiding in a clothing bin covered with purses.

About 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, Woodstock police officers responded to an alarm at the Goodwill at 9425 Hwy. 92, according to a Woodstock Police Department press release. With the assistance of Acworth police officers and K9 units, the officers found Karim Tawfik of Woodstock hiding in the bin.

Tawfik was charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, misdemeanor obstruction and possession of tools for commission of a crime, according to the release. He is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

Missing Gwinnett woman, 69, found safe

A missing 69-year-old Gwinnett County woman was found safe Thursday night.

A statewide Mattie’s Call alert had been issued earlier in the evening for Cuilan Yang, who had last been seen Thursday morning at a home in the 4800 block of Old Norcross Road, near Duluth, according to Gwinnett police. Yang has diabetes and was without her medication, police said.

She was found at a church in Norcross in good condition, Cpl. Jake Smith with Gwinnett police said.

The Mattie’s Call was canceled around 9 p.m.

Police offer similar descriptions of a suspect in multiple armed robberies

Roswell police suspect this man in the robbery of a CVS.

Police in Cobb County and Roswell issued strikingly similar descriptions of a man suspected in a number of armed robberies.

Cobb authorities are looking for a man who is suspected of robbing a Shell convenience store early Wednesday morning. The store in the 2600 block of Windy Hill Road was robbed gunpoint about 1 a.m., police said. The suspect, described as a 150 pound, 5-foot-10 man with short hair between the ages of 25-33, was last seen wearing a black jacket with a red “Air Jordan” logo on the upper left chest. He also had on a black baseball cap that bore the logo of the Boston Red Sox or Detroit Tigers, Cobb police said.

Roswell police provided a similar description of a suspect in the armed robbery of a CVS drugstore in the 1300 block of Woodstock Road on Sunday. Authorities there said a man pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded money and cigarettes. The suspect is described as man between 5-foot-7 and …

Cobb police seek suspect in Austell Dollar General armed robbery

Cobb police officers are looking for the man who shot into the front counter of an Austell Dollar General when employees had trouble opening the cash register.

Just before 9 p.m. Sunday, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, an American flag bandanna, light-colored blue jeans, and red, white and black sneakers entered the Dollar General at 710 Six Flags Dr. with a handgun, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said Monday.

According to investigators, the man, who is between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, demanded money from store employees. When they could not open the cash register, the man fired two shots toward the front counter, Pierce said.

No one was injured in the shooting, he said.

6 Walmart employees arrested in alleged internal theft ring



Six Walmart employees who allegedly got away with more than $6,000 worth of merchandise have been arrested.

The investigation into the alleged internal theft ring began Dec. 23, when security officials at the Walmart at 3105 Cobb Pkwy. contacted the Acworth Police Department about discrepancies in transactions involving the six employees, police spokesman Capt. Mark Cheatham said.

The investigation revealed that the employees allegedly voided transactions at the register and allowed co-workers to exit the store without paying for the merchandise, he said.

Beauford J. Goodrum, 21, of Kennesaw; Lamaris Denise Fields, 19, of Acworth; Shawn Allen Harris, 22, of Dallas; Jamecah Ania Ray, 19, of Acworth; Barbara Weston, 56, of Decatur; and Yashica Rene Campbell, 43, of Kennesaw, each face a misdemeanor charge of theft by deception.
