Teen shot while walking near Campbellton Road

Atlanta police are investigating the Monday afternoon shooting of a teen in the 2900 block of Campbellton Road.

Police responded to a call indicating a 14-year-old had been shot around 5 p.m. Monday. When emergency  personnel arrived, the teen could not be located, but was soon found in a nearby apartment, according to Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon.

The teen had a gunshot wound on his buttocks and was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, authorities said.

The teen said he was walking through woods behind apartments and heard two gunshots, he told police. He said there were two males near him when the shooting occurred, but he could not give police a description of either.

A bystander said one of the individuals was wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans, and the other had on a gray hoodie and blue jeans, police said. The two were last seen running toward Harbin Road.

Woman missing from Marietta senior center found safe

A woman missing since Friday from Wellcare Senior Center in Marietta was found safe Monday morning in Los Angeles.

Betty Ann Watson, 72, was found at a Greyhound Bus Terminal in Los Angeles by a police officer. She was disoriented, but in good condition, according to Cobb County police.

Before Monday, she was last seen on Friday when she stepped outside the center for a moment and never returned. A Mattie’s call was issued because she suffers from dementia and schizophrenia.

At-risk Dunwoody teen missing

Dunwoody police are looking for a 17-year-old girl who has been missing for more than a week.
Mirah Ann Moreland was last seen on Dec. 19, possibly leaving in a dark sedan. A Mattie’s Call has been issued on behalf of Moreland, who is an at-risk teenager in need of her prescribed medication. She is 5’7” , weighs about 120 pounds and has dark brown shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing a black leather jacket.

DeKalb resident spots remains of missing neighbor in house

A neighbor checking on a DeKalb County resident they had not seen in months made a gruesome discovery late Thursday morning.

DeKalb police say the neighbor discovered skeletal remains believed to be that of the unidentified homeowner who resided in the 1700 block of South Hairston Road. Foul play is not suspected, as it appears the death will be attributed to natural causes, said DeKalb police spokesman Stephen Fore.

Man’s Facebook rant against sheriff backfires

If you can’t say something nice, it’s best to keep it to yourself, especially when you’re wanted on three outstanding warrants.

Using an alias, Deterrance Jermaine Hampton went on a profanity-laden tear recently against Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill via Twitter and Facebook, according to an email release from the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies investigated the matter after it was brought to Hill’s attention. After positively identifying Hampton as the alleged culprit, sheriff’s deputies confirmed there were three outstanding warrants for him.

Deputies tracked down Hampton and found him hiding under a stairwell before taking him into custody on charges of obstructing an officer. His girlfriend, Kimberly Cash, was also taken into custody, officials said. She was charged with felony obstruction. According to the sheriff’s jail docket, both were processed into jail today.

Man beaten, robbed after responding to Craigslist ad

Atlanta police are asking for the public's help in identifying the man in this picture.

A Cherokee County man thought he had agreed to a sexual encounter with a woman after he responded to an ad on Craigslist. But when he arrived at a vacant southwest Atlanta home on Dec. 8, he was assaulted and robbed of his wallet, cell phone and car, according to police.

Someone later tried to use the victim’s stolen ATM card near Greenbriar Mall, and investigators hope someone will recognize that person.

Man assaults, rob store employees at gunpoint

Police hope surveillance video from inside a southwest Atlanta store will help identify the man accused of assaulting store employees and swiping cash.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Dec. 7, three employee were leaving the Fair Street Superette when they were approached by a man wearing a dark coat, dark hooded jacket and dark jeans, according to Atlanta police. The man then produced a handgun and struck a 71-year-old man in the head, causing a gash, police said.

The suspect assaulted the employees before stealing cash from the store. Watch the Fair Street armed robbery.

Anyone with information about the man’s identity is asked to submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477 or online at www.crimestoppersatlanta.com. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Brookhaven police looking for bank robber

Brookhaven police are searching for the man who spent Monday afternoon robbing a local bank.bank robbery suspect

The suspect showed a clerk a handgun and fled with an undisclosed amount of money from the Community and Southern Bank on Peachtree Road around 2 p.m., police said. No one was injured in the incident.

Authorities released a surveillance photo of the suspect, who is described as a black man around 60 years old and 5-foot-9 with a slim build.

Desmond Deiontay Freeman, 18, turned himself in Wednesday night.

One of Clayton County’s top 10 most wanted fugitives turned himself in Wednesday night, authorities said.

Desmond Deiontay Freeman, 18, was wanted on four counts each of armed robbery and aggravated assault and one count of sexual battery in connection with several incidents last month, Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said.

He is being held at the Clayton County Jail without bond, according to jail records.
