The FBI said Thursday that it has received “some excellent leads” after asking the public for help to identify a man they are calling “John Doe 27″ in a child sex abuse case.

Images of the man were found on the Internet, and he may be involved with child exploitation and sexual abuse of a minor, officials said Tuesday.

The unknown individual is described as a white male thought to be between 40 and 50 years old, with brown hair, graying sideburns and a bald spot. He wears glasses and a ring on the ring finger of his right hand. On a video, he refers to himself and “Jimmy” and speaks with a Southern accent, authorities said.

Federal officials also released a photo of a plaid chair inside of a residence that they hope someone will recognize.

“It is now believed that tips generated from the November 12, 2013 publicity campaign have led to the identification and location (in the Midwest region of the USA) of the man in the photographs known as John Doe 27,” the FBI said in an email. “As of this time, no arrest warrants have been issued or served.”

The investigation is ongoing and no further comments will be made, the FBI said.
