A suspect was arrested Wednesday in the Sunday morning hit-and-run incident that closed a Sandy Springs intersection for hours.

John Tyler Smith, 34, of Sandy Springs was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, striking a fixed object and failure to report an accident, police said.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, the driver of a black Honda Accord slammed into a pole and brought down traffic lights, causing damage that closed the intersection of Roswell Road and Glenridge Drive until the afternoon. The vehicle was recovered, but the driver fled the scene, authorities said.

Smith was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Alpharetta jail for booking, Sandy Springs police Capt. Steve Rose said.
