Judge orders prison for Taco Bell handcuffer

If you’ve already been repeatedly denied a date, chances are decent that handcuffing yourself to your crush isn’t going to work.

But a northwest Georgia man tried it anyway. And now he’s going to prison because of it.

On Aug. 10, 2011, James Earl Dean approached the object of his affection, then 18, after her shift ended at the Ringgold Taco Bell. Before she could get into her car, Dean handcuffed his hand to hers.

Romantic? Not exactly.

The woman screamed and other co-workers urged Dean to release her, police said. He did and drove away.

Two days later, Dean was wearing handcuffs again. Only this time, they belonged to a police officer.

This week, a Catoosa County Superior Court judge sentenced Dean to four years in prison followed by six years on probation, The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported. And he’s not allowed to contact the victim or her family, according to the judge’s sentence.

Come on now, James Dean. Clearly she just wasn’t that into you. Next time, I’d suggest flowers rather than handcuffs.

But since this isn’t a dating blog, do you think four years in prison is the right punishment for the crime?

Prison is good. I once had a defendant who had stalked a woman where she worked at that Atlanta airport. He was a security guard. He kept following her around and even followed her home. He tried to get her by running her off of the road. He had stalked a woman at the IRS building in Chamblee before that. And he was married, to a submissive fillipino woman. He terrorized the woman who worked for the feds at the airport.
So the jury convicted him, and judge Cooper sent him t o jail for a few years. Those stalkers are dangerous. Women can disappear at their hands.

Sounds like a harmless prank gone awry. If THAT was the case then yeah, this punishment is way too severe.

We can’t see the testimony and witnesses. IF this guy had no criminal history, and no history of stalking this woman beyond asking for dates, I am hard pressed to see how this was worth more than 30 days or so. Even trying to look at it from the woman’s point of view, it is not a prison sentence. On the other hand, the Judge obviously considered it a “violent” felony. He now has the same sentence as some violent drug dealers, jackers and the like. Long-time spouse abusers don’t get sentences like this.

The guy was just trying to be witty and innovative in attempting to attract the opposite sex. The girl was an ingenue with a lack of humor… The Catoosa county Superior judge is an idiot for giving that man 4 years ( you’ll probably see the same judge arrested in 2 years for child porn) Summary…Guys, watch your behavior when dealing with these capricious, lubricious women. American law protects women like gold and diamonds, and you could do serious time in a state jail if she even thinks that you are looking at her the wrong way. Be careful. Good luck

This wasn’t his first arrest. He deserves this sentence, trust me.

It is hard to know if he was dangerous or if this was just a prank. What is clear is that he demonstrated incredibly bad judgement.

if there were no coworkers around after this lady was handcuffed to the defendant, what would he have done?

sounds like this could very easily have been a missing person/murder case.

4 years sounds about right.

Four years in prison will end up being 18 months.

Sheriff Victor Hill is up to his old tricks. The reinstated officers from his first term are being punished in more creative ways. Reassignments have placed them in undesireable positions. One deputy, in particular, was taken out of Homeland Security and assigned to 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. patrol.

Victor promised he had changed his ways. He’s a liar and egomaniac.

Clayton County voters have made a huge mistake.

LOL! Tim sure is getting his money’s worth out of the ol’ Thesaurus! Of course, he probably knows that if he used more common words like ’slut’, and ‘lying b-tch’ that he’d get flamed…..
