It’s pretty tempting. Tell Snellville police who stole 12 guns, including two assault rifles, and get either a PlayStation 3 or a $350 gift card.
That’s because investigators in the Gwinnett County city feel certain that teenagers living in the neighborhood where the guns were stolen known who is responsible, Tony Thomas with Channel 2 Action News reported.
“We thought by offering something that might be more enticing to the age group we are targeting other than just some money might bring somebody forward,” Sgt. Trey Downs says.
An AR-15 assault rifle, an SKS rifle, and several handguns, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, are among the items taken during the burglary in the Hawthorne Glen subdivision, according to police. Also taken was a gaming station. Yep, a PlayStation 3.
The homeowner, who admits the guns were not locked up, says he was at work when someone broke in through a back window. Now, investigators want to get the weapons returned, before they end up in the wrong hands.
Is this a clever tactic by police to get teens to snitch? Do you think it will work?

That’s sucks that you seal such a compelling not with “Snitch”. That’s a negative term, that wont help the people who are at risk if these guns get into the wrong hands!! Think about it…

If you want to call me a snitch go right ahead.
Show me someone who is calling me a snitch. I will show you a criminal.
Dont want to be snitched on? Dont break into people’s houses.
There are a lot of things I wont say a word about. You like to hang out on your back deck and blow pot all night with your friends? Go ahead. You wont get any problems from me.
You want to download movies or music? Dont even care.
Go around the neighborhood and break into cars or houses….If you arent lucky enough to catch a bullet, I will dam sure help the cops catch you.
What about the kid across the street from me who held a gun to a take out delivery guy’s head? Would you turn him in if you knew where he was? I would.

Look…I’m all for those responsible getting caught and prosecuted. However, offering a video game system as compensation for ticking off people who stole a bunch of guns seems almost insulting.

you think i care about how “ticked” off criminals are?
I think they should be more concerned about soap on a rope and not who brought their actions to light.
But, seriously, it doesnt matter who tells on them.
I’m sure they are “really just good kids” (sniffles) who would never hurt anyone.

Stop and think……Why would a theif turn in guns and a PS3 to get a PS3? He leaves w/ less than he came with and is caught. This is the problem, as cops try to get smart they do stupid things that they think are ingenius.
Also, I am familiar with that community and the apartments didnt bring it down, it was down for a while….just drive thru, but lock your doors first….And dont get caught at the basketball court after dark.

Unfortunately we live in a world where snitches get killed. No thanks. I’d rather live.

I think the point is that the cops may not think the local teenagers were actually involved, just that they may have knowledge of the event.
