New poll coming to college football this fall

ESPN gives college football early start on Aug. 23

ESPN will show a FCS game — called the FCS Kickoff — between Sam Houston State and Eastern Washington at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 23, giving college football its earliest start in 11 years.

Nick Saban to partner in Mercedes dealership

Nick Saban has plenty of experience selling his football programs, so it shouldn’t be too tough doing the same with luxury automobiles.

Alabama’s coach and a business partner have plans to open a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Birmingham, pending a lawsuit filed by the other Mercedes-Benz dealer in the area, according to AL.com.

Here’s what Saban said in a statement:

“My partner and I have entered into a letter agreement with Mercedes Benz to open a new dealership in Irondale. We are honored to join the Mercedes family and are extremely excited about the benefits this dealership will bring to the citizens of Birmingham, Irondale and surrounding areas.”

Mercedes won’t allow the dealership to have Saban’s name on it — think about that as a selling point — but he’ll show his smug mug at marketing events and company meetings, in addition to filming and shooting ads.

“You’ll get to see his smiling face on TV often,” business partner Joe Agresti told AL.com.
