Manziel heading to NFL

Johnny Manziel is taking his many talents to the NFL.

Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy as a redshirt freshman in 2012, has two more years of eligibility at Texas A&M, but said he is turning pro earlier today.

Here’s what he told

“After long discussions with my family, friends, teammates, and coaches, I have decided to make myself available for the 2014 NFL Draft. The decision was such a tough one for me because of how much I wanted to go back and be with all those guys that I love playing with, and to work with Coach (Kevin) Sumlin and Coach (Jake Spavital) Spav and be part of a program that’s continuing to grow. But I felt like this is what’s best for me now.

“I feel very relieved. It’s a weight off my shoulders. I’m ready to become a professional and dedicate myself to making my dream a reality of becoming the best quarterback I can be.”

At 6-foot, 203 pounds, Manziel is smaller than most NFL QBs, but I would expect him to be picked high in the first round of this spring’s NFL Draf

Manziel threw for 4,114 yards and 37 TDs this year while completing 69.9 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 759 yards and nine scores.

He rushed for 1,410 yards and 21 TDs in 2012 and finished his two years with 7,820 yards passing and 63 TDs with 22 interceptions. He rushed for 2,169 yards rushing and 30 TDs.

Long shot at best to make it in the bigs. He’s got talent but not sure it’s suited for the NFL, He’ll get killed scrambling like he did at TA&M .

Size and maturity just aren’t there to go play with the big boys. I wish him the best, but the NFL has been known to chew ‘em up and spit ‘em out quick.
