Report: Pry withdraws name from Ga. Southern

Vanderbilt co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Brent Pry, thought to be one of the top candidates for the coaching job at Georgia Southern, has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to

Savannah media outlets have reported that Pry was scheduled to fly to Statesboro today, but canceled the trip.

Pry was Georgia Southern’s defensive coordinator in 2010 and has been the co-defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt the past three seasons. The Commodores have gone 9-4 each of the past two years under coach James Franklin, who is thought to be a candidate for the Penn State job.

Pry was among several candidates with connections to Georgia Southern.

What does this do to Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo?

He has said he wants to be a head coach, but declined to comment on the Georgia Southern job after the Bulldogs’ loss to Nebraska in the Gator Bowl.

Georgia Southern has been searching for a coach since Jeff Monken took the Army job just before Christmas.

LadyGAGA……..Ga Sou. already taking a big gamble going to Div 1. They are not going to hire a HS coach to compound the problem.

Johnson has barely over a 0.600 record at Navy and Tech running his offense. That’s not impressive considering his schedule at those schools. If TK is still trying to find a triple option coach, he is living in a fantasy world or he doesn’t have enough money to pay a big name coach. I hear Monken wanted a raise after the Florida win and he was denied.

@John Galt – “The AD is limiting the pool of available candidates by dictating the system they will run and seemingly indicating that only previous coaches at GSU need apply.”

It read that way to me when I saw the article, but they might include consideration of all coaches from the Paul Johnson tree. That would include assistants at Navy as well.

I imagine the Vanderbilt assistant coaches want to see what develops with Franklin. Some would likely be asked to follow him to another opportunity if that occurs soon.

This is way out there in left field(is there a “left field” in football?) and it’s a gamble but bet it would work. GSU needs to offer the job to Rush Propst, high school coach at Colquitt County. They would have to give him freedom to do what he wants. He would be as successful as anyone.

Franklin must be going and Pry thinks he gets the Vandy job.Maybe Urban should hire Pry and help him find a defense
