Bobo not a good fit for Georgia Southern

Mike Bobo has been mentioned in connection with the head coaching vacancy at Georgia Southern.

And while Bobo has done an admirable job as Georgia’s offensive coordinator — I know, a lot of UGA fans would love to see him go somewhere — Bobo wouldn’t be a good fit at Georgia Southern.

AD Tom Kleinlein has said he wants someone who buys into Georgia Southern traditions — the school buses, Beautiful Eagle Creek, etc. — including running the triple option that has powered most of the school’s offenses through the years.

“Now, does that mean they need to come in here and do all of those things?” Kleinlein told the Statesboro Herald. “I’m going to leave that up to him. I know, when I sit down and talk to him, that if we’re not doing some of those things, he better have a really good reason why.”

Bobo has shown great ability to adapt and adjust to the rapidly changing world of college offenses, but he’s spent the past several years building a versatile, multifaceted offense at Georgia that revolves around a pro-style QB.

But Georgia Southern is moving to the FBS Sun Belt, so maybe it’s looking for a new offense to go with its new surroundings.

Also, I don’t know if Bobo has the right personality or desire to perform all that’s demanded of a head coach.

“I think he likes it here,” Georgia coach Mark Richt told the Athens Banner-Herald. “I think he understands being a head coach is a lot different than being a coordinator.”

Here’s a list of other Georgia Southern candidates.

There isn’t a coach on the UGA staff that I want to stay and that includes Mark Richt. I like CMR as a person and appreciate his contributions to UGA…
But, I’m tired of seeing the amount of talent going through athens and on to the NFL excelling without winning SEC championships and playing for National Championships.
They don’t get coached up at UGA. Period.
(Think Auburn get’s more talent than Georgia? and they have National Championship and might have 2 in a week.)

Why wouldn’t he like it at UGA. He’s got a cush job making very good money and Head coach that allows him to be mediocre at play calling and shields him from criticism from the fan base. In an old-style offense (pro style I-formation) and no demand for creativity. He aint leaving UGA and most likely will become the head coach at Georgia sometime soon, which will be a colossal failure.

It would be a step down for him in his career.

Now if he were to leave for a HC position at a school that has a history of Division 1 play then it would be a good move.

But GSU is just moving to Division 1 so it is a risky venture at best.

I would hope he would take the same route as Mark Richt and take a head coaching job at a major college with a broad base fan support that has struggled in recent years.

Schools that come to mind where the coach will eventually either choose to move on or will be forced to might include: NC State, Kentucky, UNC, Vanderbilt, Florida, West Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas, SMU, or UCF.

He could probably also get a HC job out in the Mountaian West Conference like Urban Meyer and Pat Dye did before possibly moving back South

Nothing against GSU, but Bobo can do better and deserves better. He also needs to stay with the pro set since he has had so much success with it.

GSU should go after Paul Johnson, the ultimate guru for the TO, and after this season + bowl game, many Tech fans would applaud!

The dawgs will always be a mid-level SEC team with these coaches. No NC’s ever!
