Mettenberger to miss bowl game

Zach Mettenberger will miss LSU’s bowl game after injuring his knee in the Tigers’ win over Arkansas on Friday.

The school hasn’t released the severity of the injury.

Here’s what coach Les Miles said in a statement:

“We are very disappointed for Zach. He’s been a tremendous leader for our team and he’s as competitive a guy as I have ever been around. He’s had a great impact on our program. I know Zach will work extremely hard to rehabilitate his knee and I don’t anticipate this injury having any impact on what should be a great future in the NFL.”

Mettenberger became the first LSU QB to throw for at least 2,500 in consecutive seasons and became just the sixth in school history to reach 3,000 yards this season. He finished this year with 3,082 yards, 22 TDs and a 64.9 completion percentage.

Metenberger, who is from Watkinsville, was kicked off Georgia’s team in April 2010. He transferred to Butler (Kan.) Community College, where he played in 2010, before going to LSU.

It worked out best for Zach leaving UGA. He got a second chance, never had any off the field issues on the Bayou and has been an excellent leader. He’s been an outstanding player and we’ll miss him.
