Iron will: Another miracle for Auburn

All right everybody.

Take a breath.

I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted, and there’s a night’s worth of games left.

I think I pulled the ACL in my clicker finger watching the end of Georgia’s 2OT win over Georgia Tech and then quickly flipping to catch the miraculous finish of Auburn’s Iron Bowl win over Alabama.

Has there been a better Saturday of college football this season?

That’s subjective, but one thing we know.

Auburn, one year after finishing 3-9 and winless in the SEC and thanks to two miracles in three weeks, is going to represent the West in the conference championship game next Saturday.

We’ll know the Tigers’ opponent in about four hours, after Missouri’s game with Texas A&M, which just started. I’ll post another blog after that’s done.

Auburn’s win will knock Alabama from No. 1 and elevate Florida State to the top spot and Ohio State to No. 2. It also could end the SEC’s streak of national championships that dates to 2006.

Two weeks after Ricardo Louis’ prayer of a catch beat Georgia, Auburn’s Chris Davis provided another shocker when he raced about 109 yards — the NCAA calls it a 100-yard return — with a field goal that fell short to beat Alabama and win 34-28 on the final play of the Iron Bowl.

Here’s what Davis tweeted last year:

The 1970s had “Punt, Bama, Punt,” when Auburn returned two blocked punts to shock Alabama 17-16 in 1972. Will this game be referred to as “Kick, Bama, Kick, or perhaps “Kick, Saban, Kick?”

A new chapter was written to college football’s greatest rivalry.

We were fortunate to watch it happen.

ESPN talking heads seem to be down right gleeful in piling on Saban and Bama fans. They have already jumped on the Buckeye Bandwagon. The little 10 is at an all time low point ,but the Buckeyes are 12-0 with their crappy schedule.Only hope for SEC is for Sparty to knock off the Buckeyes next week.

The game should be named “Gimme one sec’”

[...] Instead, the Tigers scored a late touchdown on Henry Josey’s 57-yard run and defeated Texas A&M 28-21 to join Auburn, which defeated Alabama 34-28 in the most improbable of ways earlier in the day. [...]
