Buckeye: ‘We’d wipe the field’ with Alabama, FSU

Oregon fans had been making noise all season about how they wanted Alabama.

Until they lost to Stanford.

Now, Ohio State (9-0) receiver Evan Spencer thinks the Buckeyes are better than either Alabama or Florida State.

It seems he used his team’s off week to scout the other teams in the running for the national championship. He didn’t seem impressed with the Tide or Seminoles.

Here’s what he told the Northeast Ohio Media Group:

“I’m a little biased, but I think we’d wipe the field with both of them. They have their strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I think we can exploit them, but I’m a little biased.”

The Buckeyes, who are No. 3 in the both the AP poll and the BCS, are good — they’ve won 21 consecutive games — but their schedule is weak. They’ve played only two top 25 teams, and one was Northwestern, which is now 4-5 after losing five straight.

Ohio State shouldn’t have a problem with its next two opponents — Illinois (3-6) and Indiana (4-5) — before finishing the regular season at struggling Michigan (6-3), which has lost three of four.

Even Urban Meyer, Spencer’s coach, has been voting the Buckeyes No. 2 behind Alabama all season. He went with Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State this week, according to the article.

Meyer said:

“At times I don’t get to watch everybody, so it sometimes puts you in a hard position. This last week I did get to watch everybody. There are some very good teams in the country, and I believe we’re a very good team.”

Alabama could lose to either Auburn or in the SEC Championship game, but I don’t see it happening. And I also don’t think FSU will lose before the bowls, so Ohio State likely will be relegated to the Rose Bowl.

Meyer added:

“You’re in the same breath with some very, very good teams. And to maintain that status, you have to play very well. Very well.”

My thoughts exactly, SEC! It’s easy to talk big when there’s no chance you’ll ever have to back it up. OSU struggled against Northwestern, which is now 4-5. Alabama and FSU would hand OSU a pretty big whoopin’!

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Thing is that Ohio St. is a good team in a joke of a conference. Everyone in the top 25 would be undefeated in the Big 10.

The fact that Stanford and Baylor didn’t jump them this past week is a joke and further proof the BCS is BS.

You haven’t lost a game in almost 2 years while putting up video game numbers and beating the crap out of everyone you play…while playing one of the worst schedules in all of college football.

Sorry, play somebody respectable in an OOC game.

What a joke!!! OSU hasn’t played a top 10 team in 3 years and thus far has only played the then-ranked 15th and 18th ranked teams this year (NW and Mich respectively) and he thinks they can beat Bama who has beaten a top ten team . My suggestion is for OSU to play a real football schedule each year and maybe they’ll get more respect. Based on who OSU has played, they shouldn’t even be ranked in the top 10 this year. At least Evan Spencer is smart enough to know and recognizes he is biased as is most OSU fans.

The only reason Ohio State is ranked so high is because of the dubious way the BCS gives rank to high scoring teams. And the only reason Ohio State has so many high scoring, blow-out games is because their schedule of opponents is so WEAK!

285exp

November 12th, 2013

Uh Jason,

Ohio State didn’t voluntarily suspend themselves last year, the reason they were suspended was because the NCAA gave them a 1 year bowl ban in response to their head coaches cheating and the schools failure to monitor. Ohio State had the option of self imposing a bowl ban for the 2011 season, but refused, and played in the prestigious TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl instead. They have no one to blame but themselves for missing out on a chance to play for the national championship. Alabama thanks you for your arrogance and subsequent short sighted decision not to take the bowl ban when it would have hurt you the least.

Ohio State has canceled a home-and-home series with Georgia because of the upcoming Big Ten/Pac-12 scheduling partnership.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity told reporters Thursday at the SEC spring meetings that Ohio State backed out of an agreement to play the Bulldogs in 2020 and 2021. The Big Ten/Pac-12 partnership, which ultimately will have 12 annual matchups between conference teams, is set to begin in 2017, although Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told ESPN.com the Buckeyes likely won’t begin participating until 2018.

The schools didn’t have a contract for the 2020-21 games, but rather an agreement to try to schedule games for those years. The agreement would be null and void if dates to play were not reached by June 30, 2012. Ohio State sent Georgia a letter this month informing the Bulldogs it would not be able to confirm dates, effectively nullifying the agreement.

Ohio State typically plays one major conference team outside the Big Ten per year, and sometimes two.

The Big Ten Conference is respectable within the mid-west. I’m from the midwest and will not lie. If Ohio State steps out of the mid-west, they will be in serious trouble. THAT is why the Big 10 schools NEVER schedule the SEC or ACC football teams during the regular season. Also, the Big 10 cannot match the speed of the ACC or SEC teams. Alabama, Georgia, and several SEC or ACC teams would CRUSH Ohio State and they know it. Look at Notre Dame (a midwestern team)!! Alabama ran over Notre Dame like elementary school kids. However, if they wish to remain respectable, they MUST start playing the SEC and ACC teams. The Big 10 cannot hide because the NCAA playoffs will be here in 2014. Time to walk that talk, Big Ten!!

Regarding the routing quote of the Buckeye player: I recall the RB for Oregon saying this past week they were going to put up at least 40 points on Stanford. That didn’t work out so well. I’m not saying players shouldn’t be confident of their team- they should. But don’t say it to the media or in public or you might look like a fool if your team can’t close the deal.

Best Bowl Matchups would be:

Orange: Clemson vs UCF
Sugar: LSU or South Carolina vs Oklahoma St or Michigan St.
