Buckeye: ‘We’d wipe the field’ with Alabama, FSU

Oregon fans had been making noise all season about how they wanted Alabama.

Until they lost to Stanford.

Now, Ohio State (9-0) receiver Evan Spencer thinks the Buckeyes are better than either Alabama or Florida State.

It seems he used his team’s off week to scout the other teams in the running for the national championship. He didn’t seem impressed with the Tide or Seminoles.

Here’s what he told the Northeast Ohio Media Group:

“I’m a little biased, but I think we’d wipe the field with both of them. They have their strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I think we can exploit them, but I’m a little biased.”

The Buckeyes, who are No. 3 in the both the AP poll and the BCS, are good — they’ve won 21 consecutive games — but their schedule is weak. They’ve played only two top 25 teams, and one was Northwestern, which is now 4-5 after losing five straight.

Ohio State shouldn’t have a problem with its next two opponents — Illinois (3-6) and Indiana (4-5) — before finishing the regular season at struggling Michigan (6-3), which has lost three of four.

Even Urban Meyer, Spencer’s coach, has been voting the Buckeyes No. 2 behind Alabama all season. He went with Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State this week, according to the article.

Meyer said:

“At times I don’t get to watch everybody, so it sometimes puts you in a hard position. This last week I did get to watch everybody. There are some very good teams in the country, and I believe we’re a very good team.”

Alabama could lose to either Auburn or in the SEC Championship game, but I don’t see it happening. And I also don’t think FSU will lose before the bowls, so Ohio State likely will be relegated to the Rose Bowl.

Meyer added:

“You’re in the same breath with some very, very good teams. And to maintain that status, you have to play very well. Very well.”

@jasonbarnes UGA plays the teams that whoop yall every time you make it to the NCG. If y’all played our schedule we’d never have to talk about you getting a chance to play there. And fyi, OSU looked as bad in their last few NCG appearances as Notre Dame did last year

Hopalong…the “toughest” schedule? Wow, my day was kind of boring but thanks for adding some humor. What a laugh. Buckeyes play softest schedule they can each year then cry about not getting in champ game. C’mon down and play LSU, GA, Clemson, FSU…no, you’re playing the mighty IN, IL and MI. Thanks for the laugh!

@Virginia Tide – The only one that’s frustrated is you… regardless of which Virginia team you roll with… they all suck! We’re good… either way… BCS or Rose Bowl… doesnt matter… we’ll more than likely be in the BCS game though… Only bowl game UGA or any Virginia team will play in is the Toilet Bowl.. #GarbageTeams #ShouldntEvenCommentOnThisArticle #21StraightWins #AndWhyRWeFrustrated

Until Ohio State can prove it can beat a top SEC team, I will continue to ignore their frustrations.

Buckeyes play the toughest schedule in the toughest conference in America. THE Ohio State University is absolutely the best team in America right now.

Mark it down, Bucks will be National Champs.

This Dawg would feel more comfortable playing the Suckeyes than playing tech. Both our schools would take it to the Suckeyes.

@UGA Fan – What happened the last time UGA played Ohio State? I’ll wait (crickets)… We tapped that ass…. Alabama should say thanks for their National Championship appearance last year against Notre Dame… If we didnt suspend ourselves.. we would’ve had the pleasure of whooping up on those Fighting Irish… #TeamBuckeye$ #NoBowl4UGA #StopCrying #NotOurFaultWeDominiate #SECPlaysSmallerSchoolsAsWell #WatchUsInTheBigGameUGAFan #OrWatchUGAReruns
