RB Jones out for year, adds to Gators’ injury concerns

Florida running back Matt Jones will miss the rest of the year with a knee injury, meaning the Gators have lost seven players — including five starters — to season-ending injuries.

Georgia has a similar injury situation. The Bulldogs are without WRs Malcolm Mitchell, Justin Scott-Wesley and Michael Bennett, and RBs Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, although Gurley might return this weekend.

There’s no truth to the rumor that the annual game between Georgia and Florida will be played in the parking lot of Jacksonville’s Memorial Hospital.

As I wrote about earlier today, these are two of the teams still in contention for the SEC East title, which might come down to the healthiest team, which is South Carolina, with Missouri QB James Franklin on the shelf.

Jones was ruled out for the year on Monday. He missed the opener with a viral infection, and it initially was thought his knee injury was a sprain. He has 79 carries for 339 yards and two touchdowns.

The Gators will turn to Atlanta’s Mack Brown (M.L. King), who has 340 yards, 112 of which came in the opener against Toledo.

The Gators also are missing QB Jeff Driskel, DT Dominique Easley, WR Andre Debose and OT Chaz Green, starters at their positions.

Injurers do affect the game result. Take 2006 when UGA really should have win easily BUT LOST on a fake Florida punt and ultimate FG. DJ Shockley was OUT for that game and QB Joe T had to play. The MOBILITY of Shockley was missed and as a result, UGA had no offense.

In the UGA Florida series, I can recall tons and tons of issues, like injuries or driving rain storms. Both teams have to deal with adversity.

Over the series history UGA has prevailed overall.

Go Dogs!!

Marshall is a fairly good player as well, and he is what cost Florida….Davis…..during the recruiting battles. Yes, Florida could really use Davis right now. He is a special RB. But Florida has Kelvin Taylor and Cook is on the way…..and perhaps Scarborough as well. Florida will survive.

Arkansas measured Patrino”s “moral compass” and fired him. And….ask any Falcons player that was on the roster when Patrino was the head coach about the importance of the head coach having a decent “moral compass.” You sir, appear clueless about the importance of a head coach having good character. But some program will be desperate to take a chance on him, but it will not be the University of Florida while Foley is the AD.

Since when is a college football Head Coach measured by his freakin’ “moral compass”? That may be the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard on these blogs, and that’s saying something. The only reason anyone discusses a coach’s morality is if he has no talent as a coach to speak of.

JJ…..there is more to winning games for college football program. It will take a real numbnutts college pres and ad to hire Petrino. He has absolutly no moral compass. He has proven it over and over again. W Ky looks like a good fit for motorcycle Bobby.

Im not sure either of us evan HAVE a hand at this point, much less one to be upper ! Should be an interesting game in Jax – even if SECE not on the line – its Georgia/Florida and thats all thats needed. So lets see…. Florida has no offense to speak of, but we have no defense to speak of, so what gives – hang out at the 50 and party ? The the flip side, a VERY good Gator D, and (at times) a VERY good Dawg O, a bare knuckle brawl.
If we are focused and play like we did in the early big games, yes I think we can take ‘em. If not…..

JB, Gurley will play on Saturday and Bennett might be back by Ga/Fla…getting Rumph in the game might be ample sub for missing Scott-Wesley!
