Florida running back Matt Jones will miss the rest of the year with a knee injury, meaning the Gators have lost seven players — including five starters — to season-ending injuries.
Georgia has a similar injury situation. The Bulldogs are without WRs Malcolm Mitchell, Justin Scott-Wesley and Michael Bennett, and RBs Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, although Gurley might return this weekend.
There’s no truth to the rumor that the annual game between Georgia and Florida will be played in the parking lot of Jacksonville’s Memorial Hospital.
As I wrote about earlier today, these are two of the teams still in contention for the SEC East title, which might come down to the healthiest team, which is South Carolina, with Missouri QB James Franklin on the shelf.
Jones was ruled out for the year on Monday. He missed the opener with a viral infection, and it initially was thought his knee injury was a sprain. He has 79 carries for 339 yards and two touchdowns.
Will Muschamp: "I hate it for Matt. He's a great young man. … To have this setback is disheartening for all of us."

The Gators will turn to Atlanta’s Mack Brown (M.L. King), who has 340 yards, 112 of which came in the opener against Toledo.
The Gators also are missing QB Jeff Driskel, DT Dominique Easley, WR Andre Debose and OT Chaz Green, starters at their positions.
