Danielson: Johnny Manziel is a ‘renegade’

CBS analyst Gary Danielson had interesting things to say about Johnny Manziel this week.

Danielson and Verne Lundquist were in the booth for Texas A&M’s win over Alabama last year and will be there again Saturday, when the Crimson Tide and Aggies meet in the Game of the Season.

Here’s what Danielson said about Manziel on a conference call earlier this week:

“You can’t take your eyes off him on when he’s on the field. Much like a Joe Namath or a Magic Johnson, he seems to command your attention during the game. I came into this when (Tim) Tebow came into the league as a freshman. With Tebow, he was polarizing the opposite way. He was polarizing in an interesting way. He was too good to be true, too good of a teammate. People just couldn’t believe that this could be real.

“None of this matters if (Manziel) can’t play. He’s Dennis Rodman if he can’t play. He’s a renegade. He thumbs his nose at authority, but he shows up and plays and competes and doesn’t back down. He’s a fine thrower of the football, but it might be the least best thing he does as an athlete. He’s a tremendous weapon. And he gets the ball every play.”

In other Johnny news:

Johnny Manziel meet Johnny Cam: Manziel is such a focus of Saturday’s game that CBS will have a camera dedicated to him.

Johnny Manziel meet Johnny Pinata: None of that matters to the owners of Otey’s Tavern, a restaurant in Mountain Brook, Ala.

They have made a piñata of Manziel – they’ve named it Johnny Pinata — complete with a Sharpie in his right hand, so Alabama fans can take whacks at it sometime before Saturday’s game.

You can watch Tim Couch’s interview with Manziel on “SEC Gridiron LIVE” at 10 tonight on Fox Sports South.

Alabama players will get to take their whacks on the real Johnny Football on Saturday.

Johnny Football’s shooting rise to fame was on the back of beating Bama and I highly suspect his fall back to slightly above average QB will be by a defeat to Bama. The is quite a big difference in those two teams . Manziel won’t be the difference maker this time around. Of course I may be wrong, we’ll see come Saturday. For some reason, the media has to have a love affair with JF. Johnny cam, really? Hey morons, it’s a team sport

Not a Tide fan, but, I hope the beat the brakes off of A&M and put Manziel in his place.

Dang a moron still talking about Scam Newton. Exactly what did the NCAA fine, suspend or do to Cam? And you are right ole brother Dennis is in the HOF. Maybe Danielson is just infatuated with Dennis. Wonder why. College one thing, while the NFL is a whole different animal. Ask Tebow, I am sure he can tell you.

Sabin could not figure out how to beat Scam Newton. He will not beat Johnny Football.

With all the hating on Manziel, I hope A&M beats the tar out of Bama and he throws for 7 TDs. Then all these jock sniffing ‘journalists’ will have to eat so much crow even they will choke on it – and they swallow anything.
This is just more mid-week pablum for the sports starved – and dependent- masses who will arm-chair QB through the weekend. Besides, they have to write about something to go between the ad space.

It may be a prophetic stunt….. JFF is going to be a Rammer, Jammer, Yellow Hammer magnet.

Should be a good show….

A Johnny cam, if that don’t beat all (pinata pun intended). Much too much being made out of this game and Johnny cam. A lot of hype. All hat and no cattle. Bama makes easy work of A&M and the Johnny cam

“He’s Dennis Rodman if he can’t play.”

Last time I looked Dennis Rodman was in the Basketball Hall of Fame

Meh.

Alabama wont be playing Johnny Football. They’ll be playing Texas A&M. All of this media hoopla is there to get the Kardashian and Honey Boo Boo viewers to watch the game.
