Artis-Payne could be next big thing at Auburn

He’s got the name. And many say he has the game.

But will Cameron Artis-Payne steal enough carries away from Tre Mason this year?

Artis-Payne was the top JUCO running back in the country last year, when he rushed for 2,048 yards, 25 TDs at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, Calif.

Hmmm. Another JUCO transfer by the name of Cam at Auburn? Coached by Gus Malzahn?

Anyway, Artis-Payne signed with Auburn, but that’s where Mason quietly rushed for 1,002 yards and eight TDs, a highlight of the Tigers’ dismal season.

Here’s what Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said about his duo at AL.com:

“We feel really good about Tre and Cam. At this point, it wouldn’t matter to me which one is there.”

Do we need to start thinking up nicknames for this pair, like “Gurshall” last year at Georgia?

Like new QB Nick Marshall, nobody is sure how Artis-Payne will perform in the SEC, but by all indications, he could be joining the conference’s elite of Todd Gurley, T.J. Yeldon and Keith Marshall before too long.

Here’s video of Cameron Artis-Payne slicing defenses at his JUCO.

New helmet for Bulldogs

No. Not those Bulldogs. I saw Mississippi State’s new headgear of choice for its opener and am wondering what everyone thinks. It reminds me a little of what Boise State has worn in the past or what Miss. State wore in its White Out game last year against Texas A&M.

Mississippi State's helmet for its opener against Oklahoma State.

Does your dog bite? Mississippi State's shiny new helmet for its opener against Oklahoma State.

Here are a couple of more photos that have been floating around

I saw this on Twitter the other day.

The Bama shirt is priceless-not satisfied to win but gotta rub your nose in it. I don’t think I’ve ever met a Bammer that was embarrassed by the bonehead that killed the trees at Auburn.

The worm will turn soon.

Can didn’t lie, but he did spot Bama 24 points at their house, before driving the dagger into their hearts.

These Bama fans should probably do their best to forget about Cam.

And the next best thing after Marshall is LSU’s ANTHONY JENNINGS.

Pull up the LSU site and read what Les Miles and Cam Cameron are saying about the kid. Richt didn’t offer in spite of Jenning’s growing up a huge DAWG fan and his father playing there! Hell, his mother attended Georgia as well!!

I swear Richt and Booboo are certifiable. 35 years!

The next big thing at Auburn is NICK MARSHALL, who Richt had covering punts at UGA.

This guy Richt is a piece of work. You put Richt together with Bobo and this is what you get. This and evaluating CAM NEWTON as a tight end!! Jeepers. Your program is hilarious.

Marshall is the very guy who could have led you to a National Title! No wonder it’s been 35 years.
