Now starter, Nick Marshall will find going tough in SEC

Nick Marshall was a star QB at Wilcox County High School. He will start at Auburn this fall.

That didn’t take long.

There was a ton of speculation as to who would start at quarterback for Auburn this year.

Well, the wait is over.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn tweeted late Saturday afternoon that former UGA cornerback Nick Marshall will start at QB for the Tigers. He beat out last year’s returning starters — Jonathan Wallace and Kiehl Frazier – and freshman Jeremy Johnson. Frazier had already been moved to defensive back.

I wrote last week about Marshall’s great skills, but he was recruited to play cornerback at UGA, where he played as a freshman in 2011.

He was booted out of UGA in 2012, transferred to Garden City (Kan.) CC, and promptly threw for 3,142 yards and 18 TDs and rushed for 1,095 and 19 more scores.

“He’s one unbelievable athlete,” UGA QB Aaron Murray said this summer. “(He can) throw a football farther than anyone I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Marshall also was picked off 20 times in his 10 games at Garden City, but must have shown something in his first few weeks running Malzahn’s offense.

Malzahn obviously is hoping Marshall will turn into another Cam Newton, who followed a similar path to Auburn as Marshall did.

But SEC defenses are a different breed with different speed.

Marshall will soon realize he’s not in Kansas anymore.

Nick Marshall was the most talented athlete in his class out of Georgia. He almost took a basketball scholarship at Tech. I always wondered why Georgia had him playing defense, and if I remember right they were going to make Cam Newton a tight end. This kid, Marshall, throws the ball better than Cam Newton at this stage in his career. When I saw Newton the first time play Ark. State in person I knew he was something special. This kid is too, and it will underline what is wrong with Georgia once more.

Add to that Gus Malzahn, who was there during the national championship, and like Georgia, Auburn couldn’t judge the talent and kept the wrong coach, but have got it right this time. Malzahn seems to know these kids when they are very young in high school. He has a pool of talent in his head, people most of us have forgotten, like Newton a Georgia high school star and now Marshall same thing. They show up at Auburn. There may be a problem some day how they show up, but at least he gets his money’s worth.

Ummmmm 7576 remember a thief named Alec Ogletree……he was a thief and only suspended for a game.

and DMOSHER UGA has been on probation in the time Auburn was last on probation…Over 20 years ago….Why don’t your holier than thou Dags invite the NCAA in to do an audit like Auburn did during Cam Newton saga and see what happens….guess not since you know what will happen.

Great article on the Auburn site: Nick Marshall’s JC coach: THERE’S NOTHING HE CAN’T DO.”

Anthony Jennings had two TD passes in LSU’s scrimmage yesterday.

Great article by Seth Emerson regarding Richt and Booboo’s affinity for pocket passers. Apparently Booboo had MINUS 128 yards rushing in his career at UGA!! Those two refuse to get it, don’t they?

And your Athletic Board members know what committing to a dual threat QB means, and they, along with the rest of you, want no part of it, right?

Only at UGA. If Richt were at FSU, I promise you NICK MARSHALL, like another Georgia product, Charlie Ward, is starting for him. But not good old UGA. NO WAY. PITIFUL.

Richt bows to the wishes of the board rather than doing what’s best for the program, so he can cash in.. You all should be ashamed.

Booboo in particular, is killing y’all. 35 years.

Hell, you thinks NICK MARSHALL’S a stud, wait till you get a look at ANTHONY JENNINGS!

He won the Elite 11 regionals in Atlanta over 87 other QB(s) from 19 states including y’all’s next great hope Ramsey, who didn’t place in the finals

Was coached at Marietta High by Scott Burton , the former offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at the University of Richmond.( I know he’s no Mike Booboo). Enrolled early at LSU and was named ” TOP NEWCOMER” at the conclusion of Spring Practice. Has beaten out Steven Rivers, Phillip Rivers’ brother, for the number two spot on the depth chart.

LSU’s QB coach, Cam Cameron ( I know, this guy’s no Mike Booboo), described Jennings as being a great athlete who is a quarterback first and ” innately accurate” when passing the ball. A 6′3″ 210 lb. STUD, who grew up a DAWG fan, and whose father played at UGA!! Are you guys nuts????

No worries Dawg fans, he couldn’t hold Hutson Mason’s jock.

You know something Dawg fans, Richt and Booboo are friggin’ CERTIFIABLE!

Goooo Dawgs, Sic ‘em !!!! 35 years. Spike the ball fool!

DO IT RICHT. DO IT BOOBOO. AND DO IT DAWGS!

Those two had Marshall covering punts and kickoffs! Ranks right up there with Richt and Booboo evaluating Cam Newton as a tight end! It’s hilarious.

QUESTION DAWG FANS: Before Blair Walsh has there ever, in the history of the NFL, been a player who was NOT EVEN INVITED TO THE NFL COMBINE, named to the PRO BOWL his rookie year? It’s hilarious! Do it Richt, Do it Booboo, and Do it Dawgs!

You guys made arguably the greatest running back in the history of the NFL, I’m talking TERRELL DAVIS, a friggin’ 6th round draft pick!!

Only UGA. 35 years. Is it any wonder?

Oh yeah, one last thing: SPIKE THE DAMN BALL!! Jeepers.

You trolls are pathetic

I saw Marshall play in high school and was elated when he went to UGA. Then I was disappointed when he got booted for theft. He is an amazing talent. He also has hung in there , took his licks and coming out on the other side. Give it a break trolls. You can spin this as something Richt or Georgia did wrong or that AU/Malzahn are wrong for signing him.

Nick has worked hard on a comeback and has kept his nose clean. He’ll likely make it to the NFL because he is that good. The Dawgs and his former team mates wish him well and that is really all that matters.

Good luck Nick! We look forward to disappointing you when we meet

He actually only attended class for about 9 months and completed 6 hour’s of school work. He will never get a degree from Auburn and completing 2 courses doesn’t make him an Auburn Tiger.

I guess that wasn’t Cam on campus this past spring enrolled in school and working towards his degree, going to class everyday with all the other students, which he’ll be back enrolled in spring 2014 to complete unless the panthers are in the playoffs.
