Life a little more Smokey for Vols

The Vols hope smoke gets in their opponents' eyes this fall.

The Vols hope smoke gets in their opponents' eyes this fall.

Tennessee has joined the alternate uniform craze.

Hey, the fans love them.

The players love them.

Nike, Adidas and Under Armor love them. (More $$$ in their pockets)

And some coaches love them.

So why not?

Everybody from Fresno State to Nevada, from Nebraska to Houston has introduced new or alternate looks for this fall.

Even Notre Dame is rockin’ a redesigned shamrock look.

Tennessee released a teasing video this morning that hinted of an alternate uni. Former QB and current radio talk show host Erik Ainge helped confirm some the rumors swirling around Vol-ville with this tweet at 9:16 a.m.:

“The uniforms won’t be gray, they are Smokey and it’s an Official UT School Color. PMS 426. Butch is Master Splinter”

Word is, the school was planning to wait until 3 this afternoon to debut the new look.

Adidas, the school’s supplier, released a photo this afternoon that you can see to the right.

Not bad, compared to some.

What do you think? Have schools gone overboard with all of these new uniforms? Do you prefer the traditional look?

Tennessee is looking for any edge. This uni will make opponents nauseous for the entire game.

I feel these NHL Styled 3rd Unis are a Nuisance. The only time “special” unis should be brought is Good Throwback or Anniversary Wins.

Im talking major, uniform changes in past 30-40 years or so.
Last few years has been ridiculous for just about every team, whether for a game here or there, or permanent.
Time to stop the nonsense.

Getting Older…..UGA was one of last to resist major altering of uniform. And may they never do it again. Please dear lord.

BUTT UGLY uniforms.
Remember it’s the players, not the uniforms.
Make some money (although, who wants to buy that ugly junk?), but the team will still stink.

No Georgia wasn’t one of the first. Oregon has been swapping uniforms for years now. Just face it the orange has always been bad but this is… it’s horrid. The Nike uniforms were bad. They sucked pretty badly but these things are a nightmare. General Neyland will come back from the grave and remove his name from the stadium the second anyone wearing those monstrosities steps on the field.
Smokey will chuck his dinner!

Funny all the comments on here criticizing the uniforms. If they are Dawg fans, wasn’t UGA one of the first to go to the alt uniforms? Everyone thought they were so cool, until the Dawgs got destroyed each time they wore a new uniform.

Also, everyone is talking about how hard UGA’s first 4 weeks are … take a look at UT’s 6 week span from week 3 to 8: Oregon, Florida, South Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama. That has to be the toughest in the nation. I feel sorry for the first year coach. Even if they had hired Nick Saban’s clone, he couldn’t direct UT through that gauntlet.

Having sat in Neyland Stadium in 1964 I can testify that these uniforms absolutely suck.

If they wear those the General will turn over in his grave and become a Vandy fan.
